Prayers: Who's are Truly Worthy?
by prophecor inam i mistaken, or did we as jehovah's witnesses have the belief that we were the only people who could pray to god, and that it was regarded as a privelege that exclusively belonged to us, alone?.
is that not the height of all arrogance?.
i've been vanished for over ten years, but is this still watchtower dogma?

I know that if you have a 'secret sin' then your prayers are supposedly blocked.. so your conclusion sounds about right.
I was brainwashed into believing that, too.
I kept on even though I thought jhov was deaf when it came to me!

Oh yeah, it's still taught. When studying, I had plenty of discussions about other religions I was a part of, and being told everytime: "Jehova doesn't listen to them" and "they don't pray properly". I was told he only hears prayers of his people, the one true religon.

Ironic placement of the Awake magazine on "True Friends"
by AlmostAtheist ini forget the date, but it was a within-the-past-year awake that had a series of articles on making true friends.
i posted about it when i read it because it was so hypocritical.
the mag said that true friends appreciate each other's differences, stick by each other thru disagreements, are loyal and supportive.

.....provided they are both strong in the troof.
Anyone else isn't supposed to matter to them.

How many Bible studies does it take before brainwashing sets in?
by hubert ini would like to know how the study starts...... what kind of information is given to the potential new convert when he / she starts studying with j.w.
's., lesson to lesson.. what is taught in the first few "lessons".. when the brainwashing starts to be taught.
how many lessons it takes to convince the student that the w.t.

What is taught in the first few "lessons".
I studied the "what does god require of us" brochure, where it all seemed gravy from the first study. Can't remember exactly what the lessons were, but I think it was just about god, adam & eve, and of course satan.
When the brainwashing starts to be taught.
All the previous posts summed this answer up to a tee. The knowledge book emphasized the brainwashing along with using the bible when it was convienent. Sneaky suckers. Studying from the insight books forced me to think, though, and wake up out of my fog.
How many lessons it takes to convince the student that the W.T. is the truth, and to not listen to any advice from outside the j.w. information. Is it 3 lessons? 4 lessons? etc. (average)
I was a 'meek good student' from the beginning. One lesson! They had me at "Jesus".

Check This Out
by DocHayes ini'm working out at the ymca with my sister, and she spots an old dub friend of mine playing b'ball on the court.
i had become really close friends with him during my high school years (about seven years ago), and lost touch a couple of years ago.
anyway, he much like most other jw's in my life i never really had one last "huraaah" before i formally da'd myself in 2004, so chances are he never got the word.

What!? He's at the YMCA of all places yet will still play their shunning game when it comes to hanging out with you!
"You're a grown-ass man, you can do whatever you want," I reply.
Exactly, Doc. Reinforcement that it's ok to think for oneself.

Does Anyone Feel Stuck In Their Job?
by love2Bworldly indoes anyone hate their job but feel like they would be throwing away a good thing if they quit?
i'm working at my 3rd state agency in 4 years and have been unhappy at every one of them--usually because i don't have enough work to do and feel like a hamster on a wheel waiting for the paycheck, and i'm so bored!.
i'm scared to quit the state job because i have a large family, and this affords me great medical benefits and retirement benefits.. any advice?

Yes, and I'm interviewing here and there to get out. The company itself has gone downhill and there's at least one person a week who quits. It's so depressing, too. If I was busy, then the day would go by faster, but there's nothing to do. So I bring my books with me to read. I'm taking college courses online working toward a degree, so that helps.

Ah, yes, I can relate to vaseline being all over the place. What a bitch to clean up!
I try to play with them a few times during each weekend day (when I'm home). Sometimes it's with their toys, or if it's nice, take them out on their bikes/big wheels. We have our own puppet shows, too. Mine are 3 and (almost) 5.
