A clean house is....one that hasn't been lived in very long!
(((tigerman)))
I'm so anal about people seeing a mess that I even clean up if I am expecting a maintenance person from the apartment complex.
I do the same thing. Wouldn't want anyone knowing how messy it gets.

Serving 2 masters at once...
by JH in.
jesus said, you can't serve 2 masters at once.
so, with that in mind, is it possible to be a jw, go to the meetings and field service, and still come here on jwd and feel at ease posting and criticizing the watchtower on certain issues.
-

Wouldn't the JW's be guilty of 'serving 2 masters" then? How can they serve the WTBS and Jehovah at the same time and not be guilty of doing that?
Exactly!

No birthday celebrations allowed, but graduation party is OK?
by gaiagirl inthings that make you go "hmmmmm": just learned that an elder i know living near waco, texas is hosting a graduation party for his son.
don't remember ever reading of any faithful christian in the bible ever having such a party.
and to think, all that honor and attention will be focused on a mere human being instead of yhwh.....

Last summer, a jw friend had a graduation party for her son, who would be going into kindergarten in the fall. It was just like a birthday party with the games they played, food we ate, and the big spiderman sheet cake for him at the end. Afterwards I wondered, "are they going to do this for him every year to try and make up for not having birthday parties?" It just seemed dumb. Give him a party for turning 5 instead!!! Later on, I felt bad for him and became much more lenient on the birthday issue.

I need advice about my studies with JWs
by jaffacake inhit my first real hurdle studying with an elder.
i couldn't accept acts 15 as a basis for a governing body.
instead of studying the chapter i was diverted to the fds, the 144,000. i couldn't see any link with the little flock.

I couldn't accept Acts 15 as a basis for a Governing Body.
That's because there is no basis for it. If you want to believe there is, then you just have to accept what he has to say even though it cannot be proven.
From their bible:
Acts 15: 2 But when there had occurred no little dissension and disputing by Paul and Bar´na·bas with them, they arranged for Paul and Bar´na·bas and some others of them to go up to the apostles and older men in Jerusalem regarding this dispute.
4 On arriving in Jerusalem they were kindly received by the congregation and the apostles and the older men, and they recounted the many things God had done by means of them. So, this is a self-proclamation that god is doing things through them today. This is exactly what we were taught to believe. Twisting of the scripture to suit them. I don't consider those "spiritually mature" to be older. But they take the meaning of older men to mean those in position of authority...their GB. And because they went up to the apostles and older men, you are supposed to go to the gb, or elders or whoever and expect them to work things out and have the answer to your questions. They are still men.
Instead of studying the chapter I was diverted to the FDS, the 144,000.
Diverted...exactly. Skate around it long enough...go in circles, eventually your mind is in a mild state of confustion and prime for brainwashing. Ready to accept what they have to say.I couldn't see any link with the little flock. Nor could I see a link with the anointed. Nor could I see anything to suggest the New Covenant only applied to this small number. We adjourned at this point and will return to the 144,000 next week
There is no link. It's whatever they tell you and twist the scriptures in order to get you to believe as you're supposed to.tell him not to bother you anymore, and close the door.
Agreed 100%. -

The Dateline piece...
by OldSoul ini just saw the dateline piece.
i have been trying to avoid watching it because i already knew how hard proof of the allegations is to come by, and knew just as well what kinds of emotions it would bring up in me.. .
if any jw has not seen it, try to find a copy to view.

When I asked my former friend/study conductor about it the next day, I was told, "Don't listen to them because they're apostates, so they're lying."
Blind me just went along with it...but it stayed in the back of my mind once I began to wake up.

Car Wash Guilt Complex!!!
by prophecor indon't you feel terrible when you take your car to the car wash?
the folks who wash your car, immigrants, illegal aliens, and they work so hard and are always there, the same people dilligently washing your filthy car.
are they not some of hardest working people in america?
-
lonelysheep
I do at times. It's like, here they are scrubbing or drying off my car, while I sit on my azz watching them! I always, always tip.
When at the airport in Houston, I was appalled to see black men shining shoes because I don't see that up here at all. I thought that stopped in the 60's. Brenda's right--it's business. So I won't knock their hussle!

not beards but...double standards?
by zaphod ini saw a debate on here about why men cannot have beards in org and it kinda got me thinking.. if a sister decided that she wanted to go natural (as god intended) and not shave her legs or her armpits (let's leave lady beards - the poor cows have got enough on their plate without engaging in debate about it) would that be frowned upon?.
say, if a french or a german sister came to the congregation, looking like she was wearing afghan boots and had two fair sized hamsters nesting in her pits.
would the brothers have valid reason to counsel her?.

LMAO!
I'm with elsewhere on this. In the congs I attended, most women didn't shave their legs or underarms (or face for that matter). I never knew why, either.
