  All i'm saying is that the quote is tossed out without the proper attribution as disputed, and you guys get yer panties in a twist.

  Yes, it is the general US opinion. Look at how many xtians voted for him in his last election. Then you'll have to look at the number of 'red' states vs 'blue'. It's overwhelming. There are smigens of the country who were able to think and vote logically rather than voting for him based on his own god beliefs.

  The "United States" are separate lands that aren't all that united.

  Sam Harris didn't title his book, "Letter to a Christian Nation" for nothing.

  Yes, emotional and physical, by my only sibling, my brother (13 months younger than I).

  Did you ever inform your parents about this?

  Yes. My dad who raised us and my mother who abandoned us, but always and still adores him more than anything to this day.

  What did your parents do about it?

  Ask me, "What did you do to him???"

  What kind of relationship do you have with your sibling and your parents today?

  I don't.

  FYI-NONE of my family are or were ever jw's.

  Raising children without a religion - thoughts, advice?

  almost ready to take the plunge, but have held back for years because of topic.

  husband and i have not been active for many years and no longer consider ourselves jw's.

  we also have no desire to be part of an organized religion.

  Darkuncle--we can make up experiences. They don't need religions or religious books to read of any.

  I only give and will give my kids real life experiences of myself and others who have told me of their experiences.

  What type of person are you attracted to now?

  i was just thinking about this the other day, about how my ideas of a romantic partner have changed since being a jw.. growing up, i thought i would marry a very upstanding jw, we would pioneer together, do missionary work, have children, see the world.

  (never had any thoughts about bethel, though.

  ) so what it boiled down to was a stepford husband, up tight, not the least bit sexual, closed minded bore.. so now that i have grown up, seen the world, been married (and actually picked a good man the first time, although it didn't work out), i just contrast that with what i am attracted to now.. i like them open minded, earthy, i love artistic types because i am a published writer, hair doesn't matter to me (long/short, bald, etc), challenges convention, very sexual, still like a traveling man.. i am just curious if you anyone else can compare and contrast how their ideas have changed since breaking out the group-think of the jw organization..

  No trouble making them meet only because I have a job. Otherwise, I'd be screwed. There is never any money left over. I live with someone who works full time as well, but consistently runs up his credit card debts-is comfy w/managing debt rather than eliminating it. I have no respect for that. I live within 30 miles of New York City. There are plenty of jobs but the cost of living is extremely high. It is very important to have a lot of cash at all times.

  I'm exhausted. Happy since my work meeting went well, yet tired from the drive home from NYC. Drinking wine, watching Paula's Party with my cat on my bed staring at me, purring. I'm convinced I need to take a trip to Germany sooner rather than 20 years from now, so I'm daydreaming, too.

  Thinking of giving it all up!

  i am sure this isn't a mid-life crisis i have done that and got out of the jws.

  .

  but i am seriously thinking of just leaving the west with its rat race, emphasis on money, senseless tv and media, cars, shopping malls, pre-packaged food, supermarkets, etc, etc, and moving to india to live in a small cottage near a beach somewhere.. anyone else got the urge to get out of the rat-race?.

  I always have the urge. If I could live a simpler life and that life would allow happiness, I would. That's not my reality, though.
