i've been reading dr. phil's new book family first.
one of the factors he includes in creating a "phenomenal family" is to establish meaningful rituals and traditions, and i'm finding myself having lots of .
whether it was the traditional holiday dinners you enjoyed at your grandparents' or the vacations you took every year with your parents, we all remember events and celebrations that define who we are as a family and how we are connected to one another.. the only definition our family had once my parents got involved with the jws, was being jws.
Brilliant post Scully!
But I can't help wondering, could a group of old geezers, ie. the Governing Body actually be thinking that cleverly and deliberately to keep families apart?
By saying this I don't for one moment doubt that what you're saying is correct but I just wonder why they would do something like that on purpose.
This is a question that still irritates me after three years almost of non association. Why do they do it, (the GB)? What is their motive? They're bloody clever in a not very nice sort of way.
hi there everyone, my name is treefrog and i am new to this site.
i am a roman catholic so i feel like i'm entering the lion's den here, but not to worry.
i hope to share my beliefs with you all regarding our saviour, jesus christ.. i hope to shine a light into your organisation (if jesus christ couldn't, how can i expect to!
Shamus. You're right.

Pay attention my darling, we are no longer JW's and most of us would rather jump off a cliff than join any organized religion again. There is no hostility to you or catholicism.
We hang around here because we like to chat about what has happened to 'us' and hopefully encourage any wavering soul to leave the JW's.
Stay and read and you'll see.
Nice to have you with us!
yes you read that correctly, but first let me say that i'm not going to learn anything (as if that would happen anyway), but i'm going to gloat.. the last couple of times i went there a few months ago was because i was being forcedstrongly encouraged (http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/9/74780/1202255/post.ashx#1202255) and i felt intimidated when i went.
now that i have become a regular reader of various discussions here, i know i can walk in there with my head held high and look at them with just as much disgust in my eyes as they have in theirs because i haven't been begging to come back to such a unloving and hateful organization.. i also want to take a good look at my step-mother.
i know for a fact that things on the homefront have been much less than a "loving theocratic atmosphere" between her and my father.
Don't go there, ever!
Why would a bird want to fly back into a cage?
growing up as a witness makes it nearly impossible to deal with the "world", as a child.
constant pressure is put on witness kids to conform.
most lead a "double life" out of necessity.
I regret that we didn't have the courage to get out of all that crap a long long time ago.
Better now than later though.
Well said, littlewitch. You hit the nail on the head!
when ray franz left brooklyn, he and his wife were given a $10,000 pay off according to crisis of conscience.. was this an act of christianity or was it a pay off to keep him silent about the 'inner workings of the borg'?.
i wondered this because he put up with a lot of defamatory gossip before, after two years, deciding to write his book?.
any one any ideas?
I hope that Ray Franz has made and hopefully is still making enough money from his very enlightening book , to make his life as comfortable as possible now. He certainly deserves all the comfort he can get.
good morning,
questions for readers:
how many reside as kings and priests, along with christ, in the heavenly kingdom of god?
Not today thank you.
(Followed by sound of door closing politely)
it wasn't the straw that broke the camel's back.
that back had already broken.
it was more of the last nail in the coffin for my allegiance to the wts.
Bloody impressive that wedding ring story! Well done!
I shall be filing that away in the little grey cells for furthur and future use.
I was yesterday walking home from school with my daughter when I saw someone I had grown up with in the congregation, all those years ago. In freezing weather he was still scraping together a living...wait for it...cleaning windows.
I also grew with his wife who was so highly intelligent at school and her grades being the best in her year, every year that her teachers could not believe it when she left school at sixteen and went to work part time stacking shelves in a supermarket and full time pioneering. Her husband had also been very clever at school and had also left early to pioneer.
Think what different lives they would have had if they had continued their education and think of the lives they ended up with. It made me sad for them. More so because they had great talents when young. They had both ended up with a real struggle to survive from day to day.
