Too selfish, is probably a lot truer than we think. I have a relative who FT pioneers and his wife. They are into every possbile mod con and extravagant holiday and admit to being too selfish to have children. She says of him, 'it's a good job we don't have children because if they were to put their grubby little hands on his speakers for his surround sound system he'd probably chop their hands off!'

The subject of whether someone should get married and have children was something that was always coming up especially in the run up to 1975. The old couple would regularly relate a phrase used several times at a particular assembly at the De Montfort Hall.
'Should you, with the new world so close at hand be attatching yourself to a "hank of hair and a bag of bones". This phrase was, they said, directed mainly to the young brothers in the Assembly hall. So their girl friends were described as just a 'hank of hair and bag of bones!'
Now how insulting is that. I was a child when I first heard this experience related and the sister regularly related it whenever this subject came up. She would tell us that though they did get married, she only had one child so that they could carry on pioneering.
I still find this phrase insulting now, many years later.

i actually went to the meeting this morning (okay, sumeone talked me into going)...........god it was boring.......something about jesus and the kingdom and frigging deuteronomy and hebrews and jeremiah-was-a-bullfrog...........and then they talked about old faithful: mathew 28:19 20 "go therefore and piss everyone off selling btochtower and asleep magazines to all the inhabitents of the earth.

i escaped after the first meeting and met the stares of several good christians wanting to know why i was leaving half way through......i told the asshole elder who followed me outside: " i've got my period!!
You remind me of one of the 'nicer' elders in our old cong. A poor sister has a son with ADHD and autism. He had run into a quiet road out on field service. The elder grabbed hold of the boy and severly spanked him in front of every one. He turned to the mother and father and told them, 'that's how you keep them under control'. They were both upset but said nothing to him at the time.
She complained many times that ALL the elders were telling her that her son was 'Bad' because they did not discipline him enough. 'Use the rod' was their loving advice.

Anyway, being a JW is not meant for anyone not totally able bodied, a child, any one with a weak stomach or any one with a brain that works! No wonder they're either crazy or driving people crazy! What person in their right mind takes a young child out from 7-10 in the evening and smacks them mercilessly if they cry or whimper. I have witnesses horrors in the smacking room (mothers room) of the KH. I think of some and wonder why I didn't call the NSPCC or Police immeadiately, for the marks left on a tiny child. These people are seriously insane and should suffer the consequences. This includes the GB or FDS who chide brothers not to allow their children to distract from their brainwashing crap schedule.
All the meetings are mind bendingly boring and repetitious! Why is that a surprise. How else do they get to brain wash you except when you're in a stupor.
Haven't been for four years now! My parents invited me the other week to the meeting and I told them, much to their horror that I'd rather die where I stood than go to another crappy meeting again ever. And when I die -- NO KH! (Not that they'd have me anyway).
i have not been a member of this forum long, but i am so glad to have stumbled upon it.
i have read a lot of your experiences and some have made me laugh, and some have made me cry, but for each and everyone i read, it spurs me on to put forward my own.

That sound like a very clever trap you fell into. Hubby got what he wanted, deceived parents and a wife who doesn't know the full ins and outs of being a JW. I'm sure there are quite a few in this forum who have partners who are JWs and they're not and will be able to help you. Sounds like your hubby isn't a 'real' dyed in the wool JW either, just pretending to keep friends and family happy, but too confused to take the major step of leaving on himself.
Perhpas a little guidance, as mentioned above from Crisis of Conscience etc may help. But if he remains violent then my advice to you is leave. That's something that just gets worse.

Then again, they could do as my very 'superior spiritually' inlaws. Just don't tell. They both have state and private pensions. Then mum in law also has several 'small jobs' on the go . She accepts only cash in hand payments for these jobs and keeps the money in the house safely squirrelled away. Their financial recommendation a couple of yours ago to us 'unspiritual' members of the family? - 'You don't have to tell the tax man everything' - laughing. They also plead poverty to have council tax rebates.
So, while we 'unspirtual weak ones' quietly pay ALL our taxes, we leave the benefits of being 'spiritually strong' to our superior Jehovah's Witness relatives!
my name is jaron, 19 years old, i'm from the netherlands, and in about a month i am going to start joining the jw's meetings and i'm kind of looking forward to become a jw.
i can of course tell ya'll my entire spiritual story, but that would take an entire bookwork.
in a nuttshell: my father is an ex-jw, my half-sis (from an earlier marriage from my dads) is one of those "special pioneers", and i am jewish (my mom is jewish).
If you want the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society verstion of the 'truth' what ever that may be, then by all means be a witness. If you want a wider perspective from which to find out what the 'truth' is then you may be better going to Uni and studying theology, religion and ancient history.
There are some really lovely people who are JWs and there are some truly horrible ones and you can find those anywhere. The 'truth' is not about members of a religion but , in my humble opinion, WTBTS doctrine is based on nonsense and twisted notions. But you must believe it if that's what you want. But if you want the 'truth'....well start looking elsewhere!

I learned that they could be hypocrites at a very early age. My father was an elder and 'Loved' be the congregation. He was so nice to them all, supportive sweet and loving. Sun shone out of his arse it appeared. But I knew what he was really like when the doors were closed. Violent, bullying, frightening. I found a knife at my throat on many occassions as a young child. Can you imagine the terror. My mum was totally intimidated and afraid. What made it worse was all those 'loving brothers and sisters' saying how wonderful he was. There was no where to go and no one to ask for help.
So I knew the others could also be like that. I learned never to trust someone who claimed to be good, or a christian, or trust first, second or third impressions.
To me, they're all a bunch of ass holes. I've seen first hand how other elders and MS's behave with their familys.
Hypocrisy in the first order...Though I don't doubt there are some excellent ones.
