My father always kept the car tanked up with petrol and plenty of long life food in the boot, just in case we had to flee to the hills. This was in the 1970's. Last time I looked he was still doing that.

I think it would be interesting to compare the finances and profits of the Jah-Jireh homes and perhaps Bupa care homes. Only thing is I have no idea how to go about doing that. Any ideas?

What is a disfellowshipping offense?
by M.J. ini had a brief discussion with my wife about the practice of shunning and i asked her if the act of associating with a df'ed or "apostate" individual would get someone disfellowshipped.
she denied that it would, saying that it was not included among the specific "disfellowshipping offenses" listed in the bible.
yet my understanding is that there are many things that can get a jw disfellowshipped which aren't among the immoral practices specifically listed by paul in that context.

Since the reason for someone being disfellowshipped is still 'secret' then it could be and still remains anything at all. That's why the rank and file know very little and follow the elders like short sighted dumb ass sheep.

Do JWs believe that they are the only ones who will be saved?
by undercover infrom the wts website:do they believe that they are the only ones who will be saved?.
millions that have lived in centuries past and who were not jehovah's witnesses will come back in a resurrection and have an opportunity for life.
many now living may yet take a stand for truth and righteousness before the "great tribulation," and they will gain salvation.

From my understanding and my mothers regular reminders, 'God chooses the stupid ones of the world
to be his servants'.
My mum prides herself on being one of these so it's no good telling her she's being stupid following the WTBTS teachings, because you have to be stupid to follow them in the first place. But, there would be no point in going through all that stress of being a witness in the first place if they didn't believe they were the only ones going to be saved.
What happened to 'only those calling on the name of Jehovah will be saved'?

Absolutely, Core. There's something rather fishy going on there. The owner must be aware that brothers are donating under false pretenses, believing that this is a WTBTS home. I Know for a fact that this is what JWs believe.
Again, not for one minute do I believe the oldies are mistreated but just the brothers donating to whose pocket.

Why does God let bad things happen?
by FMZ inthis question seems to be getting thrown around in the earthquake threads, and is asked a lot... so, what is your opinion on why god allows bad things to happen?
also, did you stop believing in god because he allows it?.
i will throw my two-penneth in when i have a little more time tonight.

DY, but why do you think that God needs us to see that we need him? It's a bit like arguing with your children over why they should eat their fruit and veg really.
Saying that God has to allow us time to see that we need him paints him as weak and pathetic.
I wouldn't leave my kids in a burning house just to make them see they needed me!

HAVE WE BEEN REFINED ?
by vitty ini remember being at an assemble a few years ago when the d.o said that 40 of us sitting there would not be in the truth next year.
i was gripped by fear, i knew sometime, i didnt know when, that i would be one.. i was strong in the truth but i knew.
now have we been refined "out " of the congregation was it envitable?

You made me laugh Vitvin. This was the first year we've had a christmas tree and I said to the kids and my husband, like you, tongue in cheek, watch Armageddon come now.
It is difficult to change old thinking but it comes in the end.
How can so much c**p be true? It's not! Time to let it go. Takes time but you get there eventually. Just laugh at the times you slip into old thinking. A lot of us have only just started on the journey but it gets better every day.
Nowhere in the bible does it say you have to be a JW and give your life to the WTBTS to survive Armageddon or anything for that matter.
Any consolation?

Vitvin, thanks.
There are two things that are ringing bells with me.
The first, I've just read through the Jah-Jireh news letters and theres a section talking about a welsh male voice choir that was raising money for a Jah-Jireh home in South Wales. Well I remember such a concert that brothers were going to from our congregation and surrounding area. They had to pay to go but believed that they were contributing to the Society's old folks home not Brother Delaneys old folks homes. This guy is onto a winner here. He doesn't have to pay for things for his old folks out of his profits like other businesses he has his JW friends believing that they are supporting the Society's homes.
The second thing that also rang alarm bells with me is that he's asking for all brothers and sisters, in his news letters, to contribute 50p to help keep his old folk... and support those on the waiting list. This sounds odd to me. Another point made in the news letter was that the money give was 'at the present time all donations received will go directly to caring for our elderly ones in the homes.' Why only at the present time?

Why are you not surprising me, Vitvin?
Something doesn't ring right though.
When my husbands relatives were looking for a home for an elderly relative they believed that these homes are run entirely by the society and that application to go into one was through the society. I have also heard my own relatives talk about the homes and believe they belonged to the WTBTS.
Low pay is not surprising as that exists in all care homes. Emotional blackmail by a JW boss is also to be expected.
Glad to hear the elderly are looked after well though.

Preaching Good News or a Warning Message...?
by Gill ini remember in the 90's articles and talks about the preaching work and that when the end was close the gb would know when it was time to begin preaching a warning message to the people that would mark them out once and for all before armageddon..so, are they still preaching good news or have they begun warning the natives yet?
