i know i haven't been around for awhile, but a main reason is that i'm going to school for my psych degree and it's a lot of work.
that being said, i have the opportunity to do some undergrad research work funded by washington state university.
i have to submit a proposal and if it's accepted they'll fund my work to a limited amount.
Would love to!

not a new light, just a positive light.. sometimes on here i worry that all jws are painted with a bad brush when i know that not to be the case.
today i was looking after a jw patient on the ward and she was the most wonderful old girl you could meet, she really made me smile, and she was bright as a button.
later her family came in, who i didn't recognise and they were just as pleasent.
Hi Scoobysnax. You're right in that there are really wonderful people who are Jehovah's Witnesses but... there are the really horrible ones as well. Same mix as you get any where. The only fault that the really wonderful ones have hoisted on them are the rules made by the WTBTS. Stray slightly from the path of the WTBTS and you are marked. Stray furthur from the path of the WTBTS and you're dead meat. This rule applies to the nice ones and the horrible ones.
The choice these very nice people have chosen to make is to allow a man made, money making, litigious, organization make their rules for civilised behaviour.
I think the point someone was making earlier about someone telling a JW that you are an apostate, homosexual, posting on an apostate board was not meant as a criticism of you or anyone else. I believe, and I could be wrong, but I believe, the point is, is even a wonderful JW knew such a thing about someone who used to be a JW, they would be shunned as dead meat. There is no tolerance and no unconditional love. You follow the rules or you're dead meat.
Not nice, me thinks!

i heard this was a hot selling item in england and australia.
no need to sit on a filty toilet seat or squat.
FMZ - yeah! But we could try!
Who needs a willy now, with these modern gizmos!
.
i was doing some research for a novel i'm writing, and came across this article.
while i pride myself on being open minded, this one is just a bit over the edge without proof.. http://www.reptilianagenda.com/exp/e122299a.shtml.
So,.... what did this lady say she'd been smoking?
most congregations have about 80 to 120 people.
out of that, how many could you consider being a "real friends"?
personally, not one of them was a "real friend".
I thought that I had lots but whenever I was in trouble or ill they all disappeared. When I stopped going out in service and going to meetings they vanished in the mist.
It took years for me to realise that they weren't really friends. In the early days I just assumed they were too busy out in field service.
Then a lovely sister became very seriously ill and had to be institutionalised. I was told that as long as she still said she loved Jehovah the brothers would still keep visiting her. It's all condidtional I'm afraid. They are in general, incapable of being true friends that stick with you through thick and thin. All depends on you hours and meeting attendance and if you hinder their eternal life. That's just NOT friendship.
for going to my kid's wedding.
he was told he was not "serious", had no "self-control" and "did not work well with the body".
Must have been one hell of a wedding!
Are you sure the other elders are not just jealous you didn't invite them.
Sorry to make light of your situation Minimus but these people representing the WTBTS are just so totally daft.
First you poor mum and now your friend. Be interesting to see who they jump on next. Silly asses!
what other religious organizations are supposedly 'preaching the good news of the kingdom throughout the earth' other that the jws?
i can only think of mormons but know of missionaries in the catholic and cof e faith.
but does this mean that 'then the end will come', as the wtbts preaches or have their always been missionaries on a christianity conversion trip?.
Haven't missionaries throughout the last thousand say years been preaching in one part of the world or another though? Major organized religions have always been preaching in one way or another that all were to become Christians to 'save' themselves.
this is a genuine question on my part.
i understand the arguments for 587 vs 607 regarding the destruction of jerusalem.
what i want to know is, are there any organizations (religious or other) besides jws that believe 607?
O.K. Joke taken...or something...
The fact, then, that only JWs come up with 607 is to them a sign that everyone else is wrong and they're right. It couldn't possible occur to them that everyone else is right and they just might be wrong.... heaven forbid!

Yup. 607 is that big old stumbling block that a lot of us tripped over.
Thanks oldhippie! I had no idea about the Scientologists.
Hi JerichoForce.
Your information is really interesting. I will never convert to any religion again but am now, for the first time, really intersted in the History of religions and the Bible. I have found a lot out on this site from some REALLY intelligent people all ready to back their info up with plenty of links. I like to follow them all up.
I hope you will continue to post even though you know that the majority of us are exJWs and faders from the JWs.
Some of your post I had not heard of before.
I have been brought up a JW. Never wanted to be one. Never had the courage to leave until recently. But now I want to know what exactly I have been wasting my time and life on.
Keep posting , please!
