  IS the GB and other Higher UP Squirreling away money from the IRS?

  I know of an elder who was and still is, very well known around where I live. He and his wife were both full time pioneers but had a small shop. When their business hit hard time, he liberated some of the contributions from the congregation regularly for several years to help themselves out. He was also in charge of the accounts at his KH and at Circuit and District Conventions.

  He was found out when he started to get greedy. He was not reported to the police but he lost his priviliges for about two years. Last I heard he was back to being an elder and giving talks at assemblys. So, it does happen. Though he's the only case I've heard of.

  Never ending JWism.....AAAgh!

  did you , when you were a 'proper' jw, or even a jw of any description, believe that after armageddon you wouldn't have to go to the meetings and out on field service anymore?

  surely, after armageddon the control and work from jehovah would get even greater and the nightmare of being a jw would truly never end.. do you get my drift or have i had too much merlot?.

  i ask this because my father told me that 'they' needed all these new khs for when the dead are resurrected and they have to look after them and study with them.

  Hi Reefton Jack - the reason I find this more surprising of JWS is that most other religions do not require such abject devotion as the WT. They are not expecting their member to attend five meetings a week, spend at least ten hours a month in preaching and go with out all kinds of normal activities.

  So, you've got to be really screwed up to put up with that kind of regulatory worship and still not really believe it completely.

  just introducing myself

  i never did become a jw but i did associate with them for a few years by attending meetings, going house to house, and all that fun stuff.

  anyway, i have so much in my mind that i cannot possibly say in one post.

  basically i saw/heard many things during my association with jw that i just didn't agree with or just made me wonder if they were truly teaching the "truth", which i have recently come to the conclusion that there is no truth.

  TGIF -- Thank Goodness I'm Free

  what freedom are you thankful for tonight and what are you doing with it?.

  i remember a whole lotta friday nights spent at the hall having the "same old same old" drilled into my skull, listening for something they could never say, waiting for something that would never come, wondering where the spirit of life and light and love was that i so longed to tap into... or sometimes just wishing i could be out walking under the stars or be home watching a crappy tv show.

  so tonight i am thankful i am free to do with my friday nights (and all my days and nights) what i will, free of guilt and anxiety and spiritual starvation, and i am here enjoying good company while sporadically playing hide and seek with my young daughter who would be thankful that she is not required to sit down and shut up for long, meaningless blocks of time if she had ever been exposed to it, and i'm thankful she hasn't.. what about you?

  It's Sunday morning and I'm not shouting at the kids and hubby to get ready for the meeting. We are relaxed, lazing about and enjoying just being alive. I'll make their Sunday dinner, take them out on their bikes, watch Columbo this afternoon. Ah! Freedom from hearing about the end of the system and what God will do to everyone who doesn't obey him, or rather the WTBTS.

  Freedom.....I'll never take it for granted after 'Forty years a Watchtower Slave'!

  Mum must have been suffering from some kind of severe mental illness and depression. Sometimes life takes its toll in the most terrible ways and people just give up completely.

  Going to my first meeting this morning

  hi there i'm new here, my name is fiona i am not yet a jw and have not started to study yet.

  i am very interested in doing so but since i am still new to all this i thought i should attend some meetings first.

  i am going to my first one today at the kelvin hall in glasgow, i am quite nervous as i do not know what to expect but also excited at the same time since it could be the beginning of a huge change in my life.

  Hi bug! and welcome!

  You'll find that most who post on this site are former JWs and are still recovering from the experience. But I don't want to put you off from going or finding out about the Jehovah's Witnesses. By all means go to the meetings and study but....make sure you do so with an open mind. In general they can be very nice people but you might like to find out more about them by reading some of the different sections and topics on this site such as scandals, bible teachings, history etc

  They are, though they deny it, a cult and a mind control cult at that. So arm yourself with knowledge about them and you should make any decision with all the information you need at hand. Feel free to keep posting and someone will answer your questions as they come up.

  A Sunday meeting comprises of a song a prayer to begin. A public talk. Another song. Then the question and answer Watchtower study and finally another song an prayer.

  Be prepared to be 'love bombed' as you are a new visitor. This may last until, should you stay, just after your baptism. Then it's down to business.

  Makes you wonder though if there are some people who like to live the JW control freak life.

  About eighteen months ago a FT Pioneer/elders wife came round to visit, or should I say check up on me.

  She said, that she and her husband did not know if what they believed was the truth, maybe it is and maybe not but they stuck with it because 'we like the lifestyle.'

  weve been fading now for 9 months.. can anybody tell me what book jws are studing 1 and 2nd week of march????.

  this is going to take some monovering but, weve got visitors and they want to go to a meeting mid week.

  sso we are going to take them to a cong outside our territory, and we need to visit it for a couple of weeks so they think its ours.

  Hi Vitvin!

  As I see it, you either want to be a JW or your don't. If you carry on down this road,of trying to deceive your former friends, that road lies insanity. No one can keep up that kind of lying. I'm sitting here pulling my hair out at all the ramifications and scenarios that can arise that will give you away.

  If you hang out with JWs they'll still expect you to be JWs. If you want to keep up your fade you'll have to cancel your visits. Think of something! You'll be having to come up with far more lies if you keep the visit on.

  Whatever you do, good luck. You're going to need it!
