i was in high school from 1954 to 1958. we did not have junior high at that time.
we had grades, 1 though 8, and high school 9 though 12. .
at any rate, we were encouraged to shop around and date several people, just like the rest of society.
Oh Crumpet! Sometimes it's difficult to not look back on what we missed out on. Too painful for the loss of all those lovely innocent memories.
Hubby and self have been together since childhood. And we have those memories. I'm so glad that we do. But, though technically we were innocent when we married, we'd found out that just holding hands could be not far off 'wild sex'! In a way, all those restrictions about what you're allowed to do, or not allowed to do, prying eyes on your conduct can make you wildly immaginative! I wouldn't like to have missed out on that either!
But my poor cousin and fiance were dragged into the back room by the PO and warned that she was not even allowed to sit in the front passenger seat next to her fiance because she was setting a bad example to all the other witness youths.....by sitting next to him!!!! They were warned if they ever indulged in this conduct again, the PO would make sure that the fiance NEVER received any priviliges and would never become a MS or Elder!

rebel8 - This is so spot on. I have relatives who literally eat like pigs and want me to feel sorry now that they have health problems. Needless to say they are JWs. One rang to tell me he has blocked arteries around his heart now, looking for sympathy. The last time I fed him, he ate every last scrap of fat and pork crackling on the pork joint I cooked, which is not unusual for him. His doctor has been telling him for years that if he could lose the extra seven stones he is carrying around his middle his health would improve. So what happens,....Armageddons coming and soon we'll all be slim and healthy. They cannont take their health seriously because, afterall, soon everything will be all right!
my parents went to the assembly this weekend.
they were telling me about disciplining children... the speaker was saying how all babies are born selfish and demanding for their own needs and not anyone elses.
the jist of the talk being about discipline, and training children ...ie taking them out for a good beating.. well, i don't know if any of you have ever 'just seen red!
Peacefulpete - I think you make a really important point there, that the Organization is treating children as sinners that need the sin knocking out of them. This makes abusers out of people who would normally if they had never been in the cult, into abusers. They actually believe that they are doing the right thing and are 'saving' and 'training' their children. As in the case of MonkeyPrincess who is still upset about being forced into spanking her one year old. Because of the the teachings of Armageddon coming and children needing to sit and be trained there adds desperation to a parents frustration with their little tiny uncooperative child. How can this child not understand that they have to 'take in knowledge of the only true God' right from an early age in order to survive. The taking in of knowlege, or in my opinion, crap from the FDS is essential to survive. Afterall, Armageddon is coming anyday!
Then there's those who would probably be abusers to some extent any way. WTBTS views on child discipline gives them the licence they want and need to act like the beasts that they really are. And the view of men being the head, goes to the heads of those people and anything... literally anything can happen to the rest of their family and whatever they do to their wives, or children, they actually believe that they have God's blessing! After all, God put them in charge, didn't he?!
why am i surprised on reading the latest watchtower, the april 15 2005?
i had thought that the wtbts would at least be cautious in making its prophecies now.
surely after over 100 years of failed prophecy you might be a bit more careful, or would you?.

That's the thing with the JW lifestyle, it's designed to be exhausting and totally brainwashing. Unless you're brain is switched off there's no way you can dance to the tune that the WTBTS is currently playing. And then, to cap it all, as soon as you've learned one dance they go and change the tune!
absolutely gutted tonight......got in from work and my sisters dog "lady" had just passed away.
i missed her literally by 5 minutes.
she hadn't been ill and had been out for a walk this morning as usual, when my sister came in from work she was just laid in her basket, but was barely alive, fixed eyes and very shallow breathing, i think she must have had a stroke at some point this afternoon.
Sorry for your loss Scoobysnax! It's hard to lose a member of your family, and that's what pets are! In time you get to sit and laugh about the good times with Lady. So sorry.

JAVA - from my own experiences as a lifelong JW, until recently, it's essential for JWs to put their minds and thought processes on hold else they would not be able to remain 'in the troof'. Once you start thinking, you're on the way out to freedom.
