Victory for Terrorism

the terrorists won a great victory in spain.

mind you, i'm all for the democratic process...it's great...and had the spanish decided to part ways with the us of it's own volition, great!...however, the socialists were project to not win a majority in this weekends election...that is until the terrorist attack.

now, with the socialist coming into power...and the promise to both withdraw the 1300 spanish soldiers from iraq and to part ways with the us on foriegn policy we can look for more such attacks in other countries.

Ah, I see. Far better to let a torturing despot rule his country with an iron fist than dare to risk deposing him. We wouldn't want to create any unrest or instability, would we?? So long as WE'RE comfy, let the dictator kill, maim, and otherwise terrorize his nation.

Interesting that you seem to have the scoop on terrorism. Most people didn't know the underground link between Hussein and France/Russian kickbacks in the food for oil program either. Strange bedfellows are certainly unsurfacing.

Let's see: terrorizing and murdering innocent men, women, and children without warning, and as they went about their daily lives, is a "victory." Freeing a nation from the tyranny of a despot who murdered, enslaved, and tortured innocent people, freeing women/children to be properly educated, encouraging the building of a democracy honoring human rights as opposed to oppressing an entire nation, is also a VERY different kind of victory. Please explain how you think they are the same.

Michael Moore is a slobbish, iritating rube. And I read Crisis of Concience. I found it rambling, self-centered, and reflecting the views of someone who had been duped who was expressing disagreement. Yes, poor man, he was censured, but who ultimately offered nothing positive as an alternative. My guess is he set up a similar cult of his own. So, yeah, I can see how you might see the Michael More and Ray? Franz to be similar characters.

congratulations to the spanish people, who voted the socialists to power as a protest against the conservative government's supporting bush's war on iraq, and for claiming the madrid bombs were acts of the eta nationalists and not an al-qaida attack because of the war on iraq.. so one government has fallen, and there are many more to come, bush.. who says these days ain't fun?

Do share what's "really going on." Funny how people, and nations, react when tragedy strikes close to home. You are the victims of terrorism, but denounce any attempts to agressively fight it.

Some people stand up and fight it. Others turn tail and run. They hope that if they just "play nice" and don't hang out with the people terrorists don't like, they'll be left alone. And FTR, I've lived in Europe and in America. No, I don't understand all the nuances of your political structure, but I DO understand that massive, overnight change in an entire nation's view due to an act of terror does not reflect strength...it reflects a mercurial lack of resolve. Yes, America is different from many European nations. That's why we left Europe...to find a better life. We are a nation of achievers, leaders...people who do not run from a fight. While those may not be characteristics embraced by Spain, or by Europe in general, they ARE American characteristics. And you can attack us for defending ourselves and other nations against terrorism and tyranny. But we have the right to view you as gutless, flighty, and weak.

Lets see, the inspector had to finally acknowledge, and tragically, commit suicide because he MADE UP the allegations that reports had been "sexed up." You can't blame that on the government, but upon his own weak character. Secondly, are you SERIOUS about the UN??? I guess the national kickbacks to France, Russia, and other nations in the food for oil programs just totally escaped your notice. The UN totally screwed it up, turned a blind eye to nations who were exploiting the program for self interest (and, who by the way, opposed the war , largely for personal reasons--their kickbacks would be cutoff). For such supported the corruptions that is just now being exposed, I would not trust the UN to make decisions on a kindergarten playground, let alone on the world scene..

One of the few precise memories I have is sitting in the KH for a Sunday public talk; it was around 1980. I distinctly remember the speaker--actually a fairly smooth young guy, not alientating at all, say this: What would you do if you found out Armageddon wasn't coming until 5 years down the line? In other words, 5 years was a m-a-j-o-r stretch of their perception of how long it would take for Arm. to occur. I remember thinking: 5 years? That's it? That's the time frame in the JW minds that would the outmost edge of it's likely occurance? They MUST keep up the "just around the corner" attitude. As I have been out for a while, I have not been privy to their new techniques to keep everyone on their toes.

Disaster's just around the corner is yet another sign of a very dangerous cult.

I'd personally like to see Jehover get his butt kicked by a really scary goddess. "Hell hath no fury like woman's scorn," and when it comes to mythological goddesses, they can be really moody. I thought the thread a riot, and glad someone else finds the Jah of the bible to be an insecure, egotistical, mercurial power who demands flimsy human kind, so far beneath him live to "please him," whatever the heck "pleasing him" means. In Hewbrew days it was sacraficing animals, sometimes children (i.e. Abraham), just about anything. He kills innocent children (i.e. David and Bath's son) to punish. Yes, that's real "evolved" behavior.

Not a pleasant character. AND not removed at all from the polyglot of mythological gods who enjoyed tormenting humans.

I think that as a child/teenager (when my youth was wasted by being raised a JW), I personally NEVER thought it was coming. It was too ludicrous. Of course I never said that until I was out. I was never convinced of it. I suspect that many other witnesses don't either, but that's just my opnion.

Agreed with all who uneqivocally declared the JW's are a cult. You covered the major reasons. Plus, the one single cult trait that always sticks underscores their cult status in my mind is this: Cults claim to have the exclusive lock on the "truth." Their view of reality is the only right/true one. Since dubs call being in good JW standing as "being in the truth," that's pretty convincing that they are a cult.

The Cross

does anyone out there now wear a cross or would you still feel guilty wearing one?

I've thought about buying/wearing one; not for religious reasons, but because there has always been something appealing to me of that symbol--it's way older than Chrisitanity; it has a unique mix of pagan, Christianity, and other ritualistic symbols. I think it's considered a pretty universal symbol/archetype.

I still remember one of the flimsiest reasons dubs offer for probiting wearing a cross; that technically Jesus DIDN'T die on a cross, but one a stake. Plus, they say, why would you want to wear the symbol of something a loved on died on--you wouldn't wear the symbol of a gun, for example, if your father was killed by a gunman. (Again, totally missing the point).

On a related note (and in view of the blockbuster movie, The Passion), does anyone have any factual data about whether Jesus died on a cross or on the JW's stake. As a JW, I never really saw the importance of the distinction, and just remember their convulted references that supposedly disproved that he died on a cross. Anyone with info and what what the historical practice of impalement in this manner at that time???

I'm sorry you have to go through this! It's been years since I've been out. But one of the turning pts for me was seeing the absolute callousness of people (my own mum the most). I remember when a 8 year old witness boy was dying of leukemia in our cong, my sister, who was close friends with the mother of the dying boy was very, very upset (she's had and HAS human feeling, which often conflicts with her JW training). They boy was scared. My mother was upset about that because she felt all the medical staff should see how "courageous" he was in his faith. Whenever a death of a JW occurred, esp the death of a young person, she always hinted about how they did something wrong and somehow brought it on themselves. We got into many arguments, where I actually called her on her callousness and putting the religion ahead of humanity, and her utter lack of respect for the person who had died, as well as their family....that's when I first started to stand up to her and openly challenge the JWs.

I know it's shocking to come face to face with some of the JW's utter lack of human feeling. I know there are some good JW people out there, but IMO the bulk of them have to submerge their humanness to the org. After all they believe everyone who's not a JW in good standing will be destroyed during the big A, their carcasses strewn across the earth, birds pecking out there eyes. And the JWs who survive will have the great "blessing" of cleaning up the mess and "serving Jehovah" by being an unthinking cog in the great JW machine. THINK about it! Totally twisted, wrong.

They have to appear to be good neighbors, appear to be fine, upstanding, caring citizens. Otherwise no one would want to join. It's only those who've been deeply entenched in the org who can see their devestating behavior and utter hypocracy.

Please continue to find the support you need!! You never will find it with the JWs.
