This is horrible....

i know that the issue of the man being beheaded by the iraqis has been discussed already but they just played the sound of the beheading on talk radio (shawn hannity).

this is absolutely horrible.....the sound of him screaming just makes me ill.

Maybe this question should have being checked before this war killed so much innocent people (about 9/11 retaliations = the word itself just made it the way it is - retaliate no matter on who) who killed those innoncent people on very non relevant "hints" ?

The war wasn't about retaliation, it was not tolerating terrorism and people who threaten the US. It's not a matter of you did this to us, so there! we'll do this to you in return. It's about the obligation to protect our American people from people who clearly don't negotiate and don't play by what civilized nations know to the normal rules of war: not attacking innocent civilians just to make a huge, spectacular, fear inspiring message.

If we could just talk and understand before any WAR (of course the govs don't help in this matter they have they own interrests) this just pitifull

You don't negotiate with terrorists. Talking to them doesn't/hasn't help. They already view the US as weak on terror, unable to take up and STAY in war because we can't stand to see our people die. It's because of our repeatedly turned the other cheek and the other way, is why we got hit on 9/11 and why we'll get hit again on our own soil.

Patio...thanks but don't worry about it. Emotions are running high, and I think we're just all trying to make some sense out of it. When there just is no sense to be made out it.

The beheaders of Nick Berg also undoubtedly thought he was subhuman, or they couldn't have done what they did. But this is where it always leads to think of other humans as subhuman.

I see what you are saying, but I would think that for normal people who have the basic sense of being humans, to have a natural basic compassion for others...seeing others commit these acts leaves you with such an emotional impact that the only thing you can come up with to explain why they did this was that that have no normal human feeling.

The difference between what the killers view of Nick Berg, and our horror at seeing what they did to him and calling them sub-human is that Nick Berg did NOTHING wrong. It's like having your daughter kidnapped and murdered. The murderor is in the wrong. The cold-blooded murder of a defenseless person is wrong, has no basic humanity. Yes, it is wrong to call or view people selectively as a race as subhuman and do some type of ethnic cleansing. Hitler was subhuman for doing that, as far as I'm concerned.

But somehow we have to make sense out of something like a child's being murder or an innocent man being murdered...because it defies humanity.

do you think the US is more tolerant than europe (which part)? if so what do you base this on?

I don't think there should be any contest about who's the more "tolerant," ; it's totally subjective and truly impossible to prove.

What did take me by surprise while living in Europe and working with many different nations was the more overt nationalism I say. For example, when an issue came up in business with France which I was trying to facilitate my British boss made the comment "I'm tired of the French riding on British coat-tails." When working with the Germans, several of the Brits refused to productively work with the Germans, because they said "they've want to to things their way, and thier way only. It was clear talking with people from each country, each thought they did things the right way. Beligians didn't like the Dutch who didn't like the Belgians who had disdain for the Germans who didn't like Southern Europeans.

Bottom line, living in PC California, you just don't see that type of overt "my nation is the best" comments. Probably because whatever nation people were originally from doesn't really matter. Now they're all Americans.

I'm not saying there aren't probelms here; of course there are. But my perception is that there seems to be a higher level of national/ethnic intolerance in Europe. My take on Europe was that everyone gets along because they MUST geographically, not because they should.

Women's dresses must be no higher than the knee.

And they must BE dresses, no pantsuits allowed.

Be at the assembly, even if it means losing your job.

No blood transfusions (oh, sure, the scripture says Paul? was putting "no further restrictions" on the Christian congs other than...abstain from blood. Apparently that includes having a full understanding of hemotology, including expertise on "fractional" portions of blood that are apparently okay.)

You aren't breaking the rules, imo, just unneccessarily polarizing folks.

I think people are already pretty well polarized on the issues that are coming out.

Sadly, I think that if we deep down don't agree with other people, or think our opinion is the right one, we start to pick apart the person who doesn't share the same opinons.

Just an observation. ^^shrug^^

The Blame Game

the blame game...interesting to watch.

whatever happened to personal accountability?

or when you join an organization or cult do you lose that all of the sudden?

As I grow older, I feel much more personal acountability for the actions I take and for my view towards the world.

I still hold my parents accountable for not having the wisdom to see that raising a child in this cult creates long-lasting psychological and emotional harm. When I ended up taking responsiblity for my life and leaving the JWs, I went through a great deal of emotional pain, and my parents only exacerbated it by trying to make me fear somthing bad would happen to me (well, mostly my mom).

As a parent, it is hard for me to forgive my parents for not having my best interests at heart. My mom was so wrapped up in her own little world, that she didn't bother to notice what the religion was depriving us of. We were disallowed normal socialization, with nothing really to replace it.

Being a parent has caused me to go full circle, I guess. We're all a victim of our past bad experiences, but it's how you productively deal with it, instead of continuing the cycle is what matters.

You feel you are being treated as a child who needs a scolding? First, ask yourself how you have been treating others? as children? who need scolding?
