Do u believe much of the JW teachings but not Gods Representative on earth?
by breeze in.
i wonder how many are still drawn to the beliefs but just don't believe the wtbts is jehovah's representative on earth and the only hope for mankind?.
of course we know some are not correct like 607 bc and 1914 and 1975 etc.. breeze

GARY BUS YOU ARE HILARIOUS! Thanks for saying it like it is!!!
Breeze, I think you are not seeing the forest for the trees. Take a step back away from the JWs and look around at the world. From you post sounds like you have been very close to the JWs for a long time. Take a little break if possible. (Hope I am not offending if this is not your situation.)

After 4 years, an introduction (hope it works this time!)
by gwyneth inive been a member of this board for just over four years, and i have never posted an introduction.
i mostly stick to the "fluff" threads, because they are safe.
i wont be attacked for an unpopular point of view, or hurt anyone elses feelings.

Hey, Florida! Me too (I'll PM you.) I really can identify with that bitterness of not having made smart decisions earlier in life. And thinking we needed to get married right away. It's silly. But that's life and we grow up real fast, so you can't spend too much time regretting. Think of the best thing you did which was to stand up to your ex-husband and that BOE and walk away.
Even better than KY Jelly: Astroglide.

Am I the only one here who had almost all radio stations and CD's banned in her household in those delightful JW teenage years? No alternative, no rock, no hip-hip/rap. And nothing that sounded "disrespectful." Well, that left "Singing Kingdom Melodies", of which my favorite was song number 15, but now I don't even remember what song that was.
But classic rock was allowed, so I got into that in the later teenage years, and discovered Fleetwood Mac much later than anyone else. "Landslide" is my favorite song.

Were YOU Depressed When You Were A Witness?
by minimus ini've seen soooo many witnesses taking meds or alcohol because of unhappiness and depression.
i know of one woman who regularly gos to her shrink and is the most depressed person that i know of.
personally, i believe it's because a jw can never do enough to satisfy god or the elders....what do you think?
-
Thegoodgirl
Yes, absolutely. Hardly ever conversed with anyone at school, and when I got home, constantly felt guilty for not doing enough for "Jehovah". (field service, personal study, prayer, etc) Also I mainly felt guilty about having doubts about the organization.

In memory of Jeff...
by nsrn ini was just remembering a childhood friend.
jeff was 2 years older than me, and our mothers were good friends, lifelong witness sisters.
jeff's dad was 'worldly,' and i can remember being envious that jeff didn't have to go out in service and was allowed to miss many meetings.

That is really so sad. So many Witnesses did the same. It's great that you are able to remember and pass on your good memories with him.

BLOOD ON THEIR HANDS Twisting a life-affirming law into death
by Terry inturning a life affirming rule into a death-dealing policy is an amazing accomplishment.
we can thank the watchtower society for a mindset which makes this possible.. i've gone into great detail before about the watchtower blood policy itself.
it is a blatant and deliberate publicity stunt which takes the rather simple prohibitions of the laws of noah for gentiles on murder .

Just to clarify--I meant a heart attack from the stress on the organs, not psychological stress.

Super Hooper,
Hey, welcome to the forum. sorry about the death in your family, and the stressful time that must have been. Maybe your sister did not die from refusing blood, but many others HAVE died from refusing blood. I am a nurse, and the need for blood is not "black and white". If a person's hemoglobin is 8.5, maybe they need blood, maybe not. It may be ordered, but if they refuse, they may still live, provided they don't have an active bleed. If the hemoglobin is 4.0 or 5.0, as happens with a very active bleed, such as in trauma situations, they WILL die without blood transfusions, and they will die very quickly. No amount of saline or "volume expanders" will save that life. Also, other organs will suffer in the meantime due to lack of oxygen. The patient can have a heart attack from the stress, among other things. I have watched that happen before my eyes.
People on chemotherapy are often in need of blood transfusions, and they must have them since their body is not able at that time to replace the needed blood soon enough. Of course, it depends on how harsh the chemotherapy was on their body in their particular case, but you just cannot make the statement that there is always an alternative for blood transfusions.
The larger issue here is, of course, that should we have to blindly follow what the WAtchtower Society tells us to do, or are we allowed to use our own brains? Are we allowed to reason out if we should take a blood transfusion or not? Or do we have to make sure our conclusions is in agreement with the one the Watchtower Society already came up with?
I'm so glad you've joined the forum, it's a great place to be able to think and reason out things uncensored!

Thanks for posting this, Tijkmo.
I am really sad, for some reason, at the news. It's just such a sad story, a sad life, that the guy had. Cut short so quickly. The songs that were dedicated to him are some of the most moving and meaningful songs of all time to me.
In some way, he is like a lot of the JWs we know. So much potential, but too messed up in the head to do anything about it.
And by the way, I thought he had schizophrenia, not just "effects from LSD." Can anyone clarify?

Would YOU kill someone if you felt they really deserved to die?
by gaiagirl incould be anyone, osama bin laden, oj simpson, pat robertson, someone who personally hurt you or your family, anyone at all.
would you pull the trigger, throw the switch, etc, which would end someones life?
would it make a difference if no one would ever know, versus everyone knowing?

Hard question, not sure. I'm always thinking of things from everyone's point of view, and that makes me a softie. But I do think some people are a harm to society and belong locked up or killed. But I don't know if I would ever be able to pull the trigger to make that happen. I guess I"m like the above poster that said she could do it if it was all happening right in front of her...
