What would happen if life was found elsewhere?
by HowTheBibleWasCreated insee jws have said time and again jesus died once for all time... a quote from hebrews.
okay rule out humn-like aliens what about animals plants and microbes... i once had a hot fight with an elder when i still believed that here was no reason to doubt alien animals etc.
yet not based on any wt article witnesses reject this often.. lets suppose say in a month microbes are found on ceres (i doubt it will happen but let's roll with it) they are living as much as our cells are and reporduce... okay what would mother say in the magazines when millions of jehovah's witnesses demand to know why jehovah created microbes on a dwarf planet?.

Another thing. They claim Accuracy, as if accuracy was important, as if they supported a scientific paradigm where accuracy was important, as if they supported the habit of the Boereans to test out whether this or that emergent understanding (hypothesis) of their religious experience (data) was valid and consistent (true).
They can get a pass on not being Precise. They have repeatedly predicted end dates and failed, so they can claim that they are off the mark, in terms of Precision, of the future event they claim Accuracy on, end of the world. It could be tomorrow, in terms of lack of precision, and they'd be 'right' or 'accurate'. It could be another century, in terms of lack of precision, and they'd be 'right' or 'accurate'.
The claim of accuracy in (THE REAL WORLD) ordinary science carries with it an implicit invitation to all competitors, detractors, dissidents to go take their own data and use common standards and arrive at some conclusion that validates or modifies the previous finding. If the JW leadership implicitly invited its membership to do as the Boereans did, then the claim of accuracy would be about as relevant in a religious context as it could possibly be.
But they do not! They truncate that implicit invitation by issuing the superating claim of having divine knowledge that is necessarily untestable and unaccountable. It is a bait and switch, text book fraud, scam by the numbers, like every other of their many forms of bait and switch. They speak with a forked tongue, "Test out our hypothesis!", but then bite down with the fangs that only they have the fact because they are personally and individually informed by the Creator of the entire Hubble volume. One cannot contest a fact derived from a context greater than the context within which you may observe and hypothesize. And so, the member walks away with the thoroughly confused impression that this fact is accurate, and that you the member must accept this fact that is from an untestable source AS IF you had tested it yourself.
Why be so hard on them, indeed. -

This is trivially immediate to answer.
The degree of the answer depends on the degree of the individual's potential that was imprisoned, throttled in the crib, suffocated, chained up, squandered, starved of the least scraps of resource.
How can one be so hard on the JWs, indeed.

The graphic is insulting because with its stupid little arrows it apes the definitiveness of actual informational graphics in actual news media that actually communicate some measurable and graphable relation between two separately, repeatably observable and demonstrable data points. -

Conversation with a “Genius" JW
by Bloody Hotdogs! inthis is a real conversation i had with a jw friend last night.
several times previously he claimed to be a certified genius, having supposedly passed the mensa test.... .
me: so what do you think about jws condoning the idea that dinosaurs could have lived with humans?.

"The new station included a modular design, to accommodate an increasing station population, and an adjustable elevation, in order to prevent the station from being buried in snow. In a location where about 20 centimetres (8 in) of snow accumulates every year without ever thawing,[7][8] the building's rounded corners and edges help reduce snow drifts."

Andromeda awaits the "Great Crowd of Other Sheep"
by Doug Mason inthe great crowd, the other sheep will live forever on planet earth.. years will move from centuries, millennia, and millions of years to billions of years.
after 4 billion years, the sky will fill as their milky way galaxy and its neighbouring andomeda galaxy collide, with amazing changes in gravitational forces.
what an amazing sight!.

That reminds me of Joshua where God made the sun stand still in the sky. If I am capable of reading Bible correctly, the sun stood still for an entire day. If you do a deep zoom out from bible land, you see that the spinning sphere of the massive earth has a substantial rotational energy. To replicate Joshua's experience, you could:
1. Cause only the crust to stand still with respect to the sun. The consequences would be instantaneous earthquakes in one place after another and tearing of the crust as the planet continued to rotate beneath the crust.
2. Cause the crust and some upper portion of the magma to stand still. The consequences would be.... that would require a lot of energy, at the least.
3. Cause the entire earth, from crust down to the core, to stand still. The consequences would be that this requires 2.138×1029 J to be dissipated instantly, and Joshua would lose his hydrodynamic core dynamo which sets up the earth's protective magnetic field. So 24 hours of Israelites fighting under incoming Galactic Cosmic Rays (GCR) and other high energy particles would increase their chance of cancer.

Village Idiot, nice to see some authoritative astronomical knowledge. Another consequence of grand spiral galaxy mergers will be enhanced star formation from shocked gas clouds, and that means enhanced supernovae.
I think we learned of the HR diagram and Main Sequence in 10th grade science class. I and my JW friend at the time would rationalize that Jehovah could easily remove helium ash from the core of the sun in timely fashion such that it would simply keep p-p burning its hydrogen inventory without consequences.
We failed to imagine that the sun would decrease in total mass, and therefore in total luminosity, and therefore move down the Main Sequence, so that the orbital radius for liquid water would decrease. I do know for a fact that TWS once mentioned that since the earth had such a fine-tuned radiative energy balance, or, deviate by 1% and the planet freezes or boils, then this must be evidence of Divine Creation. (Creation book?) Total cart before horse.

When I parted ways with my then JW friend Mike Stagemeyer, of Palmyra PA, it was unambiguous between us that he was choosing to stay with a lie because it was the correct lie, and I was choosing to be unable to stay with a lie whether or not it was correct. (Hi Mike, how are things.) I have no doubt he is an elder now. I, on the other hand, have no say in what someone watches on tv, does in the bedroom, imbibes, inhales, ingests, wears, says, thinks, etc etc. An admittedly grave loss on my part. -

Science still doesn't have the answers on how life first appeared
by EndofMysteries insince so many athiests in this thread, and since i'm going to college, i was curious if what i would learn in biology would change my thoughts and show that life clearly and easily spontaneously happened.
just looking up the origins of dna or rna there is nothing conclusive.
for example, scientists today are able to manipulate life.

Everlasting Life on Paradise Earth - My musings of why it cannot be true
by leaving_quietly inactually, just one musing.. there are a number of scriptures that wtbts uses to support their doctrine of everlasting life on paradise earth.
the vast majority come from the hebrew scriptures.
using just one verse, i believe i can disprove this doctrine quite soundly.. the verse is john 6:68.. simon peter answered him: lord, whom shall we go away to?

Being out of the cult 15 years or so... I think the paradise pictures were, in general, carefully inclusive of all material fantasy of things not obtainable in the present ""Systems of Things"" (unbeknownst due to being under the thumb of the WTBS, under Derridean erasure). To wit, a child cannot pet a panda in actuality because the child is forbidden from getting higher education and some degree in veterinary science and going to exotic locations and getting a wash of oxytocin from engaging directly with fellow mammals. The adult can fantasize about, and more importantly covet, the 2000+ square foot house on the hill with the sweeping vista that raises the real estate value and the carefully cultivated garden that says real eating because the adult is forbidden from taking paths in life that lead to material benefits. The paradise pictures are like an officially sanctioned Two-Minutes Covet. Of course they all serve Jah because they want to of course. Not for anything resembling a supply and demand curve.
And buttressing this coherent, rifled covetousness into an indeterminate future is the sanction against learning enough science to recognize what "eternity" and "everlasting" mean in quantifiable terms. I bet every single JW has enough brain cells to question the silliness and unfoundedness of the Everlasting Paradise Earth reward / motivation / sky cake / goal / prize.
By way of irony, the JW cosmology has the earth only being built 6000 years ago {someone now claims no, it's not a literal thousand years per day...?} when the science has our surroundings going back 13.5 billion years, and the JW is expected to make a decision about |Eternity| based on a world context of ~6000 thousand years. This 'ontogeny recapitulates the phylogeny' that JW young are expected to (have their parents force them to) consider getting get baptized at <10 and maybe around 5yo.
The closest thing to JW Paradise paintings (dreamy, surreal, won't-happen) that I have seen are the depictions of a Stanford Torus by Don Davis from the 70's. http://www.donaldedavis.com/BIGPUB/STANTRUS.jpg
