My wife likes to read Ann Rule, but I really am not that into real life crime stories. Lyin' said she reads them before going to sleeep at night, my wife does too, but they give me the creeps too much to read before going to sleep.
My wife also likes biography's of celebrity's and I hate those.
Give me a good fiction novel about death and war and I'm good, true crime stories get to me. Wierd huh?

my best friend is a jw but she can't do anything outside of school with me.
it's really hard cuz she gets jealous when i do things with our other friends outside of school.
we invite her but she's never allowed to go.

My advice is not as drastic as some others here. My advice is for you to be the best friend you can be to this person. You'll need to understand that her religion keeps her away at times, but try to make her feel OK about that.
I think it is great when JW kids meet kids from other religions at school. This shows these children how much of a lie they are being taught about worldly people. Its hard for a witness kid to have friends that they know are nice, and then attend the meetings at the Kindom Hall and hear talks about how bad the world is. This may be one of the things that helps open their eyes.
Be careful how you talk to your friend about religion. Don't critisize her religion. If she asks you to attend the Kingdom Hall, decline and invite her to your church. She won't accept your invitation but it might keep her from trying to convert you.
someone replied to a post i entered and got me thinking what others perceive about us due to the nicks or id we have chosen.
some of the nicks i am sure are just self explanatory , others are cute, or simple.
although i suspect that very many in this room,took time to think of theirs and definitly the nick holds some little secret as to who they are as a person.
I think I've explaned this before but I don't mind doing it again.
In the 23rd chapter of Matthew, Jesus spoke to the Pharisees calling them blind fools. These scriptures remind me of the WTBTS.
I also think this reflects how I first got involved with the JW's religion. I was very young when I married my wife. I knew she had been raised as a witness but I didn't think it would be that big a deal. Well, 18 years later I realize I was a blind fool!!
Some days I even feel like a blind damn fool, therefore some here on the board refer to me as bdf.

If there is anything new on celebrating birthdays, I've not heard about it. My wife's birthday was last week and her mother did call to say she loved her, but no celebrations.
Maybe JW's will start celebrating each others deaths. Thats how they do with Jesus you know.

hello, i am new to this website, but have to be straightforward and say that i do not agree with most subjects and contents.
i am an active jehovah witness, but i am very lonely so i am looking for others with the "hope" or to speak to those that know someone that does.
it has been a long , hard road for me.

the past few weeks i have been comnunicating with jw's in my area who attend kh meetings physically but not mentally.
they are "closet apostates" or "double agents".
some are planning to leave the area altogether to avoid the hassles of being shunned.. according to one of these "closet apostates", he believes that 30% if not more of the members in his congregation would leave if it were not for the shunning.

You make a good point. The real problem is with young people wanting to make a life long commitment to an organization before they are mature enough to know the consequenses.
ok, i'm getting a little lazy here.
i glanced at a couple of jw books on the issue, but i know you guys can answer, so i'm going straight to the experts.. what happens if a good witness refuses to ostracize a df'd member.
i know an elder might approach and question their actions, but would a judicial committee ever be formed to stop a person from associating with a df'd witness?.

I also know of a witness mother whose df'd son moved back in because he was dying of AIDS. She nursed him for nearly five years until his death. No elders gave her a hard time.
