Evil Men/silentlambs
by silentlambs inthis was a post i made six months ago, some of you may have missed it.
i have watched many responses from those within the organization that endeavor to defend the current watchtower policy toward pedophiles.
the most common response seems to be that any accused child molester is reported to the watchtower legal department and then reported to local authorities with cooperation from the local elders.

Believe me, if pornography on the Internet, cable, and videos is such an important topic at the DC, it means JWs are not listening to the counsel and are doing and watching whatever they want in their own home. NBC is not a special channel devoted to porn, etc. I'm positive everyone will be home watching it with the drapes drawn or taping it on video for viewing later.

With VCRs so plentiful in almost every home, a special meeting would not stop anyone from taping it and watching it later. I have NBC e-mail me daily notices of what is coming up on Dateline as well. VCRs meant I didn't have to stay home any more from meetings to see my favorite shows.

Question on book "Riches" (1936)
by Osarsif in"the lord has graciously provided for the publication of his message in the form of books, that the people many be informed of the truth ... those books do not contain the opinion of any man.
" [riches (1936), pages 384-385].
a friend of mine has that book in another language and he can't find that quote.

Well, mine's not there...no real love in the congregation....there are individuals that truly love as Jesus did, but the overall climate is one of suspicion, jealousy, deception. Several years and congregations later, I find it hard to believe that these are the people that will survive and build a paradise. So I carry on and watch my back.

In my opinion, if a brother talked about such information to me (a sister), I would have considered it sexual harassment if not sexual abuse....sisters should be counseled to seek out a mature sister for such information. Of course, any sister objecting would have been sent packing. I wouldn't have fainted and would have said my piece and left. How many new sisters were there then anyway?

Unless his deception becomes a “scandal in the community,” I doubt anything will happen in spite of the “Society’s” words on the matter. Actions speak louder than words.
*** w94 11/15 27-8 "If You Owe Taxes, Pay Taxes" ***
When it comes to paying taxes, each Christian must shoulder the responsibility of being honest and law-abiding. This is not a matter in which the congregation elders supervise the flock under their care. (Compare 2 Corinthians 1:24.) They do not involve themselves in tax matters unless some case of serious wrongdoing, perhaps involving scandal in the community, comes to their attention.*** w83 4/1 8-10 The Uses and Abuses of Welfare ***
By the same token, it is proper to accept any of these benefits to which we are legally entitled because of present circumstances. The lure of available state financial assistance can lead to other problems. Not long ago a man immigrated to a country with such benefits and applied for unemployment assistance. In his application he concealed the fact that he owned property in his home country—a fact that would have made him ineligible for benefits. Hence, he got money from the state by concealing the truth.
Deception may be practiced in many ways.
…typical abuses of the welfare system. By concealing facts, telling outright lies or in some other way violating Christian principles, it is sometimes possible to deceive the authorities and get extra money. But the Bible warns: “The devious person is a detestable thing to Jehovah, but His intimacy is with the upright ones.” It also states: “The getting of treasures by a false tongue is an exhalation driven away, in the case of those seeking death.” (Proverbs 3:32; 21:6) No Christian would want to be detestable in Jehovah’s eyes, just for financial gain.

Willy_think and Patriot had some good points.
I have a developmentally disabled relative...it all depends on the degree of retardation, IMO. But why not see what the "Society" says:
*** w76 9/15 576 Questions from Readers ***
Should parents of retarded children feel that baptism is in all cases a requirement for children to be viewed by God as worthy of his protection in times of judgment, as in the foretold “great tribulation”? The degree of retardation is clearly a determining factor, since some of such children remain with the mentality of a four- or five-year-old even when fully grown. The child may be able to grasp certain basic teachings of God’s Word and repeat these when asked. He (or she) may be obedient to the parents and abstain from doing certain things that have been pointed out as wrong and contrary to God’s will. But is the child able to make personal decisions, able to decide from his own mind and heart (not that of the parents) the course in life he wishes to take? Is he capable of comprehending and seeking a personal relationship with God, one that is not dependent upon his parents? Is he able to stand before a judicial body, accountable for any wrongdoing he may commit? If not, then such child is evidently not in position to be baptized but would continue under family merit in God‘s eyes, counted by him as “holy” in that sense.
If you are the guardian, you legally have the right to determine if they are capable of this kind of decision. No one else.

(Chapter X, Duty & Results, Abomination section)I wish I had this on CD.

Nic, the difference I see from your quote to mine is "the truth" as opposed to "truth" in your quote. Am I missing something? I re-read that sentence in the book several times and mine says "the truth." If there is something else, let me know. Because my book definitely says "the truth."
(I do have vision problems.)
Osarif, that might be a quote from the 1936 WT of those pages advertising the book, Riches.
