  Who was it that led humans to believe that lie? Jesus identified him when he said to the religious leaders of his day: “You are from your father the Devil, and you wish to do the desires of your father. . . . When he speaks the lie, he speaks according to his own disposition, because he is a liar and the father of the lie.” (John 8:44) Yes, it is Satan who developed the immortal-soul idea to turn people away from true worship.   If a child answers the door, we should ask to speak with his parents. This shows respect for their headship. (Pr 6:20) If the child invites us to come in, we should decline. If his parents are unavailable, we should return at another time.
  

  If the child is older, perhaps in his mid-to-late teens, it would still be appropriate to ask for his parents. If they are not available, we might ask whether his parents let him choose his own reading material. If they do, we can offer him literature and perhaps direct him to jw.org.

  When making a return visit on a youth who has shown interest, we should ask to meet his parents. This will allow us to explain our purpose in calling and show them the trustworthy and reliable advice found in the Bible for families.   Thanks for the quote and the very good summary. It is hard to evaluate what someone says in Russell's life period with how people think and believe today. It was a different world pre-1914 and even a few years after.

  a couple of her friends chimed in when i suggested that perhaps the fb friend was really the psychopath.

  The GB of the WTS is no longer involved in the business end of the WTS. They have handed that over to non-anointed jw men at Bethel. Even the WTS realized that letting the GB handle business was not a good business model (and for certain legal sidesteps).

  Well, now we see behind the curtain...though many of us have seen. I knew a brother who had the weight thing applied to him and the BOE slowly removed everything, making him just a figurehead or a cypher. Then he started losing weight and everyone was happy for him, he had cancer and would die 4 months later. Better dead than fat.

  At the same time, Brother KissHisRing was heavier than this brother and nothing done to him.

  for example, when puerto rico was devastated by a hurricane, wtc directed a large number of congregations to donate $1500 each in supplies that would be used for relief purposes.

  it is not known how many congregations took part in this effort but the feedback suggests it was in the hundreds.

  zeb, thanks for sharing that. I love watching certain ones. A few of my associates and I would practice broadway musical songs and then go out in a park and sing. Not online. We were pretty good and drew quite a big audience at times. We practiced this song too and performed.

  Can you imagine having to tell the overrighteous brothers in charge not to ask the questions and say a prayer. I think they mean the after the baptism talk, since no prayer is offered after the morning session anyway.

  Usually, in the last circuit I was in, they scarfed up a baptismal candidate from the other nearby circuit to get baptized at the other to prevent a public embarrassment.
