Yes, iwantoutnow, why pay the postage. Just say you mailed them.

I used to check out a phone territory, call the first #, if no one answered I would jot it down. Then if no one answered after the 2nd time, I would always call that number and start checking how much time had gone by and then call it again. I did other things between the first call and the last call.

I know jws that did that with calling back on people. Called at a time they knew they would not be home, to start counting time. Did other things then, shopping, errands, cook at home, etc. Then on the way home stopped at that same place (near their home).

I knew older jws that called on people we called 3 hour cookie and tea stops. These jws had been stopping by to see these people every week for years. Never dropped them despite WTS "suggestions" that they do so.

Jw`s know where you live , You now need to know where they live .

they come uninvited to your door step and try to discuss bible/wt doctrines with you, and many times or on occasion you do so.. you may even exchange first names with each other , and that is fine if you are happy with that but do you know where they live ?.

but they have an advantage over you .they know your name and where you live .!.

you may know there first name but you don`t know where they live .that is the advantage they have over you.. does it really matter ?

It is amazing what you can find out out someone if you have their address.

You can assessor websites for your area to see who owns that house.

Take that/those names

Check on whitepages or other free search sites and find out who else lives there, where this person has lived before, find their phone number, etc.

I do it all the time. With a little experience you can find even more info, where they work, who their neighbors are.

Not much is secret nowadays, Not even if you have registered to vote. Of course that does not mean you have voted.

This is one good reason to hate God, it seems to me. What else gives people the gall to think they have such superior wisdom and knowledge that they need to go banging on people’s doors to tell them about it? Who else does that?...The memory and the irritation were fading, but then the other day I found in a heap of disorganized papers a single sheet I had found in the mailbox back in August. I would call it a letter as opposed to a sheet except that it’s not like a normal letter. It pretends to be but it’s not.

What happens to Bethelites?

so if someone puts their life into serving the cult for free at bethel, then say after 25 or 30 years they are not able to for one reason or another such as illness, or family issue or old age, does the cult have any safety net for these people or is it you serve until you can't and when you can't you just go away?

In the KH in this area, they built on a detached little house for a special pioneer couple. They are not required to mow the lawn, do upkeep on the building or property because this becomes income and taxable. Besides the BOE has said that those duties are supposed to be training for brothers coming up the ranks as to their reliability (haha).

The US government has been working on the idea that housing provided to ministers, priests, etc., should be counted as income and taxed. I'm not sure what the status of that is.

Hopefully, these Bethelites have stayed in contact with some jws outside Bethel using perhaps their special status as Bethelites. Ray Franz and his wife Cynthia had no children but a jw that they had kept in contact over the years and visited often, helped them out with a job and housing. Although Ray had not paid into social security for the required 4 years (10 credits a year = 40 min required, working full-time), he worked for another 4+ years to qualify and his wife qualified for ss as his wife.

Plus, if your income is below a certain level, many people qualify for certain services, food, etc. I knew special pioneers under 50 who kept their income low on purpose so they would qualify for these and pay little tax.

Did You Think Jehovah’s Witnesses Were Typically “Racists”?

i was a jw from infancy.

we had a melting pot type of congregation.

i grew up with all types of witnesses , all with different backgrounds.

I think that the jws I knew were not blatantly racist, but only among their jw friends that shared their hidden beliefs. Then there is institutional racism, built into the community life around you, for many generations.

Perhaps, the term might be prejudiced.

When I was young I lived in a southern state in the 50's, I am white. Congregations were segregated. It would look bad to the white "worldly" people if white jws witnessed to black "worldly" people. It would be better if their own people witnessed to them. Then civil rights came in the 60's, but congregations in the south still were segregated. Think about it, congregations were formed based on the people who lived near the KH. There were few if any integrated neighborhoods even then. Congregations still tend to be more black in areas where the neighborhood is made up mostly black people, and vice versa for mostly white neighborhoods.

In NYC, the only white people in some congregations were Bethelites assigned to go to that congregation. The WTS was quietly trying to integrate. I used to wonder if they sent black Bethelites to mostly white congregations?

I wouldn't say that jws are more prejudiced than non-jws, just not reflecting the official statements of the WTS.

I had family members that would never work in predominantly black neighborhoods, too much crime there. At the same time their neighborhood while mostly if not all white, was the biggest center of the sale and use of drugs in the city...

After reading all these posts, it makes know there is real reason to believe that much of the WTS reports are phantom. I knew of many jws that faked their reports, including elders, pioneers, etc., people had a quota to meet. Publishers, just one hour a month was the minimum, unless you were designated by the BOE worthy to just report 15 minutes a month and stay regular.

It shows to me how many people in the WTS are only concerned about what people see or know in the organization, not their invisible, all-seeing god.

I wonder how he got away with talking to others about his religion during work time. At all my jobs, I would have been warned to do it on breaks, lunch, and after work hours, or be fired.

Did he own a business and force his non-jw workers to listen to him?

Good memories of full-time service?

perhaps not a topic for everybody... mine.. in both sp service in a foreign field in europe , the freedom and helping people to read and write in spanish .

doing a lot of work in the congregations.. in missionary-service.. helping congregations in a third-world country and see good results in family relations.

and the siestas from 13:00 to 15:00..... who has good memories of bethel?

I found that even the other regular pioneers just spent minimum time, 45 minutes, took a break for an hour, then called again on someone they had talked to before, probably 3 months before, that they knew would not be home. They recorded their time as starting from the moment they walked out their door until they walked back into their home again. I found it hard to copy their tactics and feel honest about it.

That's why I found reasons to go by myself, only 3 people/2 going out together/so I was on my own, only pioneers who made it clear I was not welcome in their group, only had time open to go when others did not go out. It was great after that.

I wonder how far they had to search to find jws that could carry a tune, let alone sing together in unison and/or harmony. In the congregations I attended over the years, perhaps 1 or 2, maybe 3, could sing to qualify for selection by such a choir.
