Thanks, JW_Researcher. Yes, it was a tricky situation and all the jw family members had to have a powwow so we would all be on the same page. Rules and laws, written and unwritten drives the WTS.

Blood: When an Active JW is Health POA for non-JW
by JW_Researcher inmy mother has designated my sister as her ‘designated health care representative.’ my sister has sworn to my mother that, if my mother needs blood, my sister will not refuse it.
there are no anticipated (key word) needs for blood at this time.
my mother is in her early 80s.. my mother has never been a jw but is very familiar with all aspects of jwdom and understands the risk of my sister not allowing blood if my mother needed it.

Bad Associations spoil useful habits. Are the JWs right? Scripturally?
by Open mind init has been interesting for me to learn the various ways that the jws twist the scriptures to fit their own dogma.
(of course jws aren't alone in that, but that's another topic.
) two quick examples of jws not following or going beyond the bible are blood and birthdays.

I agree, Foolednomore, I didn't even trust ex-jws that I really didn't know. Ex-jws can change their mind and want to go back and will use the info on you to make their own case look good to the elders.

Congregation in PA sues over mandatory reporting
by Corney inivy hill congregation of jehovah's witnesses is currently suing the pa department of human services.
it requests "a declaration that its elders are entitled to" clergy privilege, or, in the alternative,.
to the extent that the clergyman privilege is determined to exclude its elders on the basis that they are "members of [a] religious organization[] in which members other than the leader thereof are deemed clergymen or ministers," the court declare the statute to be unconstitutional.

Rattigan, in the Catholic Church, one person confesses to one priest privately, but the priest does not share it with other priests. It is different with the WTS, because 3 elders are involved in the judicial committee or even if just discussing that person with the whole BOE, it is not the same. So I feel based on the Catholic Church handling of this, not even telling court/law enforcement, the WTS is being deceptive about this. But as informed ex-jws inform the non-jw secular law systems, those secular systems are having their eyes opened.

2022 - 1914 = ?
by fedup inobviously not the orgs brightest moment for teaching that the generation of 1914 would be alive to see paradise.
forget the "new light" that bought them an extra 100 years, which if any other religion would've done this, the org would scream false religion.
the fact is that for 75 years this #1 recruiting message from the society was a lie.. i asked a current jw to get a calculator and do the math: 2022 - 1914 = an angry reaction.

My husband was a newly baptized jw as we started coming up on 1994 and the WTS did a little song and dance article on what generation meant. Then in 1995 they hit members with the big explanation of how the new meaning of generation affected the 70 or 80 year scripture. I had told my husband after I read the article when the WT came in the mail, I told my husband and he said, "You predicted that 2 years ago." I am a prophet and didn't know it. And know the WTS has adjusted that using "overlapping generation." I wonder what they would say if the day comes when that teaching becomes outdated? I figure I will not be around to see it though.

Fisherman, that concept of not knowing the day and the hour and Jesus and the angels, and the numbers the WTS developed based on when Eve was created, was adjusted in the Aid to Bible Understanding from 130 years after to Eve being created just after Adam, because time was running out, it didn't look like by even doing that, 1975 would come and go and no "end." Then when people were disappointed and many left during 1977 and 1978 posting a negative increase, the WTS blamed members for "running ahead." In 1980 the WTS finally said perhaps the WTS and been too definite about 1975. Perhaps...

Have you ever wondered how the WTS got away with having segregated congregations , especially in states that passed and enforced Jim Crow laws. The WTS reasoned that those laws did not prevent them from "preaching the good news." Just have segregated congregations and let black jws talk to the black people, and white jws to the white people. Problem solved! As laws started changing in the mid-60s, the WTS started slowly changing. But since black people were restricted as to where they could buy a home or live, they were segregated defacto. So congregations still remained mostly black or white. Also, the WTS did not want to "offend" the white people. There were not even many black people at Bethel. Many reasons for that. Even when I was still going, the WTS sent black elders and families to mostly white congregations and vice versa trying to break the color barrier. They pissed off a lot of white jws doing that.

Exactly, Disillusioned JW. One of my relatives, a young teenager, unbaptized publisher, slipped up and committed a df'ing offense and they announced that teenager should be treated as if he had been baptized when that person committed the offense. Our family were told we could not associate with him. We were always a little "rebellious" and had some association with "necessary family business" of course. Then the WTS reversed their decision, with this idea, could an engaged couple get a divorce, no because they were not married. Could then, an unbaptized publisher (really only "engaged" but had not gone through a marriage ceremony (baptism) be df'd? So the WTS reversed that. But the WTS did not bring up the change much in the publications, and new people came or young children of jw parents grew up, and knew nothing about this, and even argued me when I showed them the info in the publications. (This is similar when the WTS just stopped bring up their doctrine of a 7,000 year creative day and changed to "thousands, and thousands of years, even editing past publications and re-issuing the new books). Crafty, that WTS.

1914- responsible for the biggest decrease in JW's?
by joey jojo intheres a couple of threads re: 1914 on the board right now and it got me thinking.. the jw doctrine of the 1914 generation is a key doctrine , yet it is probably the number one reason most have left over the decades.. 1975- within one generation.. 1995 - new understanding of the word generation.. 2010- overlapping generation first mentioned- some anointed survive armageddon.. 2015- infamous overlapping generations chart featuring david splane.. its obvious the org is changing the goalposts and constantly trying to squeeze as much time as they can before they have to abandon this altogether.
or will they come up with something new?.
does anyone else think this ever changing doctrine is responsible for the biggest loss of members?.

TonusOH, very good answer, sums up the WTS thinking but how they can't resist even setting a date even after 1925. I remember one jw told me that jws couldn't know the "day and the hour" meaning literally a day or hour, but they could know the year, from 1966 up to 1975 when jws realized the end wasn't coming then. It also shows why the WTS had to come up with the "overlapping generation" doctrine.

Are You Concerned About Inflation?
by Simon ini saw a statistic the other day that something like 25% of all the debt that the us has incurred since 1776 was created in the last 12 months.
that's because they have printed so much currency and instead of letting that stop them, they are going to continue printing more to go on a spending spree on crazy green-new-deal schemes and union handouts.. does anyone think that this can be anything other than inflationary?
they are effectively stealing the wealth of everyone to then hand money out to people.

We have always tried not to spend every dollar we earn and accumulate, perhaps going deep in debt long before this. So things can increase in price and so far we can pay it and not wipe out our savings. Of course, it can get so bad for everyone that there might be no place to go for help. I can remember my German relatives who were adults during the period after WW1, and how a wheelbarrow of currency would not buy a loaf of bread. I hope it doesn't get that bad.
