just thought i'd start a thread about favourite movies.
mine, in no particular order, are .... alien - a great visual film.
the chest-bursting scene is still great to watch, no matter how many times i've seen the movie.
How do I determine if a movie is my favorite?
Do I rewatch it many times over the years?
That's it folks. Some die into obscurity. Some are like a rough cut diamond that gets brighter and more sparkly each time I watch it; see things I missed the first time, things that still make me laugh, things that still make me cry, things that give me hope.

Thanks for the quote and the very good summary. It is hard to evaluate what someone says in Russell's life period with how people think and believe today. It was a different world pre-1914 and even a few years after.
i just finished looking through the circuit overseer manual, so here are some highlights.
first up, regarding circuit assemblies:.

a couple of her friends chimed in when i suggested that perhaps the fb friend was really the psychopath.

The GB of the WTS is no longer involved in the business end of the WTS. They have handed that over to non-anointed jw men at Bethel. Even the WTS realized that letting the GB handle business was not a good business model (and for certain legal sidesteps).

Well, now we see behind the curtain...though many of us have seen. I knew a brother who had the weight thing applied to him and the BOE slowly removed everything, making him just a figurehead or a cypher. Then he started losing weight and everyone was happy for him, he had cancer and would die 4 months later. Better dead than fat.
At the same time, Brother KissHisRing was heavier than this brother and nothing done to him.
wtc has become adept at using tragedy as a means of raising cash.
for example, when puerto rico was devastated by a hurricane, wtc directed a large number of congregations to donate $1500 each in supplies that would be used for relief purposes.
it is not known how many congregations took part in this effort but the feedback suggests it was in the hundreds.
I do believe the WTS requires jws to send their money to their local branch. In the US that is in NY.

zeb, thanks for sharing that. I love watching certain ones. A few of my associates and I would practice broadway musical songs and then go out in a park and sing. Not online. We were pretty good and drew quite a big audience at times. We practiced this song too and performed.

Can you imagine having to tell the overrighteous brothers in charge not to ask the questions and say a prayer. I think they mean the after the baptism talk, since no prayer is offered after the morning session anyway.
Usually, in the last circuit I was in, they scarfed up a baptismal candidate from the other nearby circuit to get baptized at the other to prevent a public embarrassment.
