theres a couple of threads re: 1914 on the board right now and it got me thinking.. the jw doctrine of the 1914 generation is a key doctrine , yet it is probably the number one reason most have left over the decades.. 1975- within one generation.. 1995 - new understanding of the word generation.. 2010- overlapping generation first mentioned- some anointed survive armageddon.. 2015- infamous overlapping generations chart featuring david splane.. its obvious the org is changing the goalposts and constantly trying to squeeze as much time as they can before they have to abandon this altogether.
or will they come up with something new?.
does anyone else think this ever changing doctrine is responsible for the biggest loss of members?.

I think the JW got the idea (whether directly or indirectly) from some of Russell's literature. That is because I think I read in Russell's literature that the term "day and the hour" doesn't mean that Christians couldn't learn the year (and the season and the month). I think that Russell might have also written that while Jesus and others didn't know the time (or even the year) when Jesus spoke the words in the 1st century AD/B.C.E, people in Russell's day could learn it because Jehovah provided inspiration/insight then." Well, the end didn't come in 1914 or even by 1916 when Russell died. Rutherford had to rewrite the past and issue books that made it say that 1914 was only the beginning not the end. Matthew 24:44 never said a day or hour was an issue. NIV "So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him." Notice it says "hour." Here it is said Jesus was talking about a thief, even thieves don't give you the day and hour they coming. Russell and many dates he used that were later amended when those events did not happen. 1878--"Based on the premise that events of the first century might find parallels in related events later, they also concluded that if Jesus’ baptism and anointing in the autumn of 29 C.E. paralleled the beginning of an invisible presence in 1874, then his riding into Jerusalem as King in the spring of 33 C.E. would point to the spring of 1878 as the time when he would assume his power as heavenly King." Proclaimers book, moved from 1878 to 1914.

Dwain, how did happen? I take it there were not laws by then, not that the general community was on board. Do you have copy or link to that? I was only about 10 back then and did not read the newspaper or watch news on tv; no interest I guess. What were your feelings and experiences? If you want, just send me a pm. Blondie
in my opinion, having been a jehovah's witness for twenty years as well as being an ex-jw for forty-three years,is that the following talk as given by peter gregerson, emphatically removes any shadow of a doubt aboutwhether the claim for the faithful slave has any merit whatsoever.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytcj6smffbk&t=3145s.
note: (references to the publication the finished mystery are given.
you can read the entire book here:https://www.gutenberg.org/files/46016/46016-pdf.pdf.
Peter was the ex-jw Ray had lunch with. Peter was his employer and landlord for a time when Ray and Cynthia moved down there. Peter as an elder saw how Ray was being treated. A point to remember, Cynthia was at that lunch and nothing was done to her, not df'd or did she da herself. I met Peter and his wife at an ex-jw meeting. So funny they were and so supportive.
....is the best, in your opinion?.
out of the numerous translations i've had/used, i can honestly state that the 2001 translation is head & shoulders above all the others i've ever consulted, imo.
the publishers even invite suggestions/corrections to be submitted.
I use biblehub to compare a lot of translations/revisions at the same time to get a more blended version. www.biblehub.com
going on 2+ years of no public ministry.
can't imagine anyone is really enjoying letter writing still or that it's remotely effective.
i'm a little shocked that we haven't resumed yet but i guess that's what happens when the org is run by a bunch of old people (ie high risk for covid) and a bunch of other sheltered germaphobes.
The DTD is really not the important issue. As long as jws keeping anteing up donations, guilted by the WTS, or eventually, a form of "tithing" might be set up, at the congregation level, assigning an amount by publisher and the congregation is responsible, so the elders have to nag the members. Oh, they sort of do that already. Jws are told their everlasting in life in paradise depends on their giving some semblance of trying to save people by their "preaching." Too many jws don't think their god knows what they are really doing, Just so the elders stay off their back. As a scripture in Ezekiel says, (reporting not supporting), "Jehovah has left the land, and he is not seeing."
more than 60 percent of our full-time translation teams work, not at branch offices, but at remote translation offices (rto).
why is this arrangement beneficial?
what equipment do translators need in order to work effectively at an rto?
Wow, Terry, they certainly have found their "paradise" on earth already.
at the 2021 annual meeting, samuel herd revealed new light and claimed the anointed will all have passed away before armageddon.
it has since been revealed that while they will die before armageddon, there will be some anointed still around that will witness the start of the great tribulation.. so the question is, how many years until the existing members of the governing body have passed away?.
im not a doctor, but based on their age and various stages of obesity, im thinking 10- 15 years- give or take, sounds about right.. with that in mind, the great tribulation could be announced any day.. the new understanding has now freed the org from the burden of having to identify a particular generation in relation to the date of armageddon.
"at the 2021 annual meeting, samuel herd revealed new light and claimed the anointed will all have passed away before armageddon." Wow, the younger GB members, better get their affairs in order, because they will be dying sooner than they think. haha But the WTS does not call it the "rapture" although that is what it is, just semantics. The GB members and other "anointed" jws have to be in heaven for the wedding of Jesus and the Bride. And now the WTS says that will be shortly after the "great tribulation" starts. So since the GT is just around the corner, very, very soon now, in the toenails of the feet of the image, etc. Then they will all be just be new boys and need to go to new boy school. With the "overlapping generations" maybe that can stretch the time out for all of them to be dead, as long as more jws don't start thinking they are anointed now and start partaking. Blondie
the death of ray franz hit me harder than i would have thought.. i had to reflect for awhile....alone......and quietly.. .
after all, fine people die every day and some of them are indispensable, yet, we go on....don't we?.
but, ray franz was something that can only be described in the phrase sui generis (one of a kind).. my task was to ask myself what it was that made ray so singular, potent and admirable without a trace of scandal or ill will attached to his memory.. .
Thanks, Terry, I meet Ray and Cynthia many times on our way back and forth from Florida. It was always fun and positive. Cynthia always had us laughing out loud and Ray too but it would sneak up on you later how funny it was. He shared photos of him and Cynthia in their missionary assignments. They both spoke fairly good Spanish because of that. They are sad to leave their home and the people there to go to headquarters for Ray to be on the GB. He was stunned as to what went behind the doors. And though Fred Franz was his father's brother, he did not know him at all, and Fred did not interact with him much at all. I'm sure he had several aha moments, but felt some how it would be corrected by god (wait on Jehovah). He would take me back in his office and show me letters he had gotten from people who had been affected so positively by what he wrote; and then he would write back! I'm glad we were able to do that. I just looked online and found their phone number and called. No problem, he said stop by on down to FL or back. I enjoyed going down memory lane about Ray with you. Love Blondie
from jw org news alert:.
breaking news | resuming public witnessing.
on may 31, 2022, the governing body informed all branch committees that they may now resume all forms of public witnessing with the exception of the door-to-door ministry.
But not publicly from "door-to-door" and I bet lots of jws are glad.
