  i read here regularly and although i haven't joined in, i really appreciate all the wonderful contributions from those who are willing to share their experiences.... .

  i was a convert.

  i won't go into the whole history ( perhaps another day) - my story could easily be recognised in the small town where i live, with my husband.. so, we stopped going to the meetings around a period of time when we were going through severe emotional difficulties - at that point, we needed unconditional family love - the hectic, forced jw dinner parties and social occasions gave no real comfort.

  Alive! Hello and welcome. I'm so glad you posted on here. One thing is certain, this family can relate to what you are going through. When the "truth" starts unravelling it can be daunting, confusing, hurtful.

  That Jw family comes with conditions. As you draw further and further away so will they. You and hubby have got to start branching out and finding new people to hang out with. Join a tennis / bowling club of some sort, get to know those people and create new connections. Not easy, but it will be worth it.

  Having Faith in the Bible

  i know many on here have lost faith in the bible , is it possible that is because ones do not have the right perspective regarding it .

  we have usually been taught by bad teachers , or ignorant .

  i believe if we take an honest look at the bible , we will see that it gives us the best answers to crucial matters , it gives us some amount of bearings ( understanding ) , which without having such knowledge we would all be more like walking zombies in amanner of speaking , we would be lacking hope in something better , for surely something better is to come , how can we be sure , .

  To me the bible is just a book. I can take things from it and use in my life. I've done this with other books I've read. If there are gems that resonate with me, I keep them close.

  my black brothers and sisters are now afrophobic - literally has just made news now.

  (i work in the major newspaper house in sa).

  that means south african africans fear, hate, or dislike black africans and black african descendants.

  there was a statue outside the rhodes university.

  a 30 year old black student then threw his pooh on the statue and that got the ball rolling to pull the statue down.

  the board of this university built also gives out burseries and grants to previously disadvantaged black south africans and not disadvantaged black south africans.. there has been a huge debate in the country and now the statue has been removed.

  paulmolark - just because we have african foreigners coming in and willing to work for their wage does not give south african africans a right to murder/ attack / loot....for fear of being under oppression again. These foreigners are not here to do that. They actually are here to promote commerce and trade and employ south africans, that is what is truly scary. Some employees have turned on those very foreigners that have employed them for many years.

  There are places that one best stays clear of.

  Barrold - again you offer nothing to the discussion, but to ""attack"" me. I mean I really don't care about you or your opinion but it is obvious you speak from a place of total ignorance. My family WAS actually affected by apartheid in a very physical sense - it was broken up because we had different colours in my family, certain members couldn't write their matric exams, or live together. I could rant and rave about that but I don't, it is a fact and my family have dealt with it in a civilised manner. If a black person gets a job merely based on colour and not merit, or a white person gets a job based on colour - it's NOT right - it's stupid. If you have read those past topics and posts I advocate getting a job based on merit or experience and not merely to make up numbers. It's not healthy for business and doesn't make good economic business sense as has been proven so many times. Because I speak out about race does not make me a racist. I speak up because I'm not afraid to mention colour in my posts, because there are people in this country that can still hold intellectual conversations about race and know it's not personal, and know it's not racism and know it's for the betterment of each other, to understand each other, to promote fairness in all aspects of life. Go play ostrich.

  South African Africans are targeting the Congolese, the Zimbabweans, the Malawians, the Mozambicans, Ethiopians, the Somalis and darker South African Africansas well. - Police Minister Nathi Nhleko has blamed recent attacks on foreigners in KZN on Afrofobia

  This is what we should be protesting against. People are dying/ being attacked / murdered because they come from other African countries. It is shocking. Right now in our CBD cars / tyres are on fire, shops are being looted.

  The Zulu King - Goodwhill Zwelithini has said it is these other Africans that are the cause of unemployment in our country and that these foreigners need to leave. This has only added fuel to the attacks.

  Paulmolark - you do make some good points. I could understand if these protests happened at the turn of democracy, it's been 21 years and only now it bothers someone, and instead of discussing it,, let's throw poo and waste time and money, etc.

  Barrold - because I mention the race of someone makes it a bad thing? No! I'm not afraid to say a black person threw pooh on a statue. I'm not afraid to say a white cop shot and killed a black man. You know why, because those are the facts. In South Africa we are not afraid to mention race - you should 't have to be. Hell, I come from a mixed family myself - so race does not bother me. Go bury your head in the sand somewhere.
  

  Anyway, in SA there are so much more important things to protest against: Xenophobia, reckless spending of tax payers money, starvation, housing, violent crime, I could go on and on.

The black student was protesting that the white Rhodes was a racist and that in a nutshell his presence reminds him of the torture black South Africans endured under white South Africans. This black student goes to the Rhodes University, built by Rhodes and those same white South Africans. The board of this university built also gives out burseries and grants to previously disadvantaged black South Africans and not disadvantaged black South Africans.

  There has been a huge debate in the country and now the statue has been removed. Other statues at other universities have now been targeted - all because those people suppressed black south africans and it reminds them of the torture endured under white south africans.

  Now Ghandi's statue has been defaced and black south africans are calling for it to be pulled down. I don't recall indian south africans torturing black south africans. The indians suffered under apartheid too....

  Where does one draw the line?

  Does pulling statues down change anything?

  Should all buildings / roads / businesses built by whites and indians be pulled down?

  What about Shaka Zulu? He tortured and killed 10's of thousands people from other tribes? Should his statue be allowed to remain standing?

  What is BELIEF ?

  what exactly is "belief"?.

  is it the same to ask: "do you believe in god?

  belief can mean a number of things: Belief in god is like having faith in god - can't see / feel it, but think / feel it is there.

  Belief in oneself - to know that you are capable of doing something.

  Belief that something can be done = confidence.

  I do not believe in god as I do not feel that there is one, I have 't seen proof there-of.

  I believe in myself, because I know myself, I am confident in what I can do and what I can accomplish.

  Accident

  so over easter weekend i was house sitting a lovely place.

  the back door was sticking and so in order to close it, gave it a pull with all my might.

  my thumb happened to be nestled in the gap of the kitchen door.
