That commercial really ticks me off
vs
wow people lighten up.
Now that's funny.
lately, here in ottawa, there is a tv ad for a comedy show.
it has a "teacher" in front of a 3 student class.
the teacher says that when he asks a question everyone should put up their hand.

Part of comedy is surprise, the unexpected or absurd. But SURPRISE, some people may find the unexpected offensive. Obviously the commercial is not advocating some new teaching innovation, but it sounds like it's trying to use the absurd to get a laugh. Doesn't sound all that funny to me, but I only find the violence in the 3 stooges mildly amusing anyway. ( the Marx Brothers are much funnier if you ask me) If you don't think it's funny, likely you're going to find it offensive.
All In The Family was CERTAINLY not advocating racism, but some found it offensive anyway because they didn't see the irony.
Taken From Wikipedia:
Mel Brooks on comedy and tragedy: "Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you fall down an elevator shaft and die."
My guess is you don't rent too many Mel Brooks movies either.
dear everyone,.
there was a very interesting item on this morning's bbc breakfast news programme - to do with blood transfusions for dogs.
a new website has been set up, along with an appeal to owners to type and register their pets as potential donors, should the need arise.
Vampire bats ate quiche before the flood.
LOL! Quote of the day!
Thanks
ok, lets have a discussion about where we all came from, evolution or creation?
(or whatever you beleive in of course) every one put down there main reasons, along with reasonable facts and backup as to why.. .
hopefully this doesnt start to many arguments, lol.. .
Here we go around and around...nothing new...just the same old, same old, tired analogies.
If anyone could prove anything..it would have been said by now. How many days ago did this thread begin!
Physician, heal thyself.
ok, not a conversation of mine, but a parody of one, written by robert g. ingersoll, and a brilliant one at that.
quite long, but he covers all of the circular arguments that i knew of, plus a whole lot more, and is very entertaining.
question.
Actually, you could say that about any book written by an author that is dead, and all that knew him personally are dead also. WarlockTrue, but how many books call themselves "the gospels"? Thanks Syf, I'll hadn't read that essay yet, but it looks good. I also learned Mark Twain was a fan of his, and that's a good endorsement in my book.
One more passage to consider... QUESTION. What do you consider is the strongest argument in favor of the inspiration of the Scriptures? ANSWER. The dying words of Christians. QUESTION. What do you consider the strongest argument against the truth of infidelity? ANSWER. The dying words of infidels. You know how terrible were the death-bed scenes of Hume, Voltaire, Paine and Hobbes, as described by hundreds of persons who were not present; while all Christians have died with the utmost serenity, and with their last words have testified to the sustaining power of faith in the goodness of God. QUESTION. What were the last words of Jesus Christ? ANSWER. "My God, my God. why hast thou forsaken me?"
i'm talking about the new posters, like kitten whiskers, who started posting today (hope this works: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/120817/1.ashx).
and it seems like we're getting a few like this nearly every day.
people who were raised jws, really worry that they are doing the right thing in leaving, yet who have been made to feel not good enough by the wts, who felt they never measured up, who struggled with it, but came to realize that what they'd been brought up to believe was just not the truth.. the same stories are told over and over again, and they come from sincere, good people - not whiny, fault-finding apostates like the rest of us riffraff around here!
let's take a poll; which is more rude? jw's in field serv. 1 house holder: i wouldn't let a jw pet my dog. b/c jw's teach hate . and you may teach the dog to shun/hate me. or 2 if you don't read these mag's and become a jw' you will die SOON. now let me ask all open minded persons here . who was more rude. me with my dog. after getting fucked by the wts . or number 2 the jw that wants to take my house after the big A calls me a goat. a hater of god, and tells me if i don't go back to the kingdum hell. the birds are going to pluck out my eyes. etc. i ask who was RUDER. the jw or me. john
Is it really just about winning a pissing contest john?
I have no doubt that you would win and make sure that everyone around knew it to. I hate to throw in an old saying but " you can catch more flies with honey than vinegar". Or how about, " you may have won the battle but not the war". You really didn't acknowledge that A.S. has managed to help 7 people out since getting out himself, and all without acting the rabid apostate part.
I myself remember the billboard carrying, frothy mouthed apostates at many a convention, but they were the farthest from my mind when I was at that spiritual crossroad in my life. There was someone I decided to call, who I respected but for some reason had stopped going to meetings. After some initial feeling out on his part, since he was trying to fade himself with a wife and child in, he slowly showed me some information and websites that had helped him and the rest was history for me. Had he shown too much venom toward the WTS, even though deserved, I doubt I would been encouraged to dig any deeper. I may have even seen it as a confirmation that the WTS is right, apostates are a bitter and unhappy people, and put my head right back in the sand. I also hope to reach my own family members one day, and think I know them enough to say that only a reasoned, empathetic approach together with my own successful escape as an example, is going to work in that case.
perhaps your in your face style works as well, but do you actually know if anyone has gotten out as a result of one of your tirades?
Have any former dubs come back to thank you? would you even care?

question.
This one is even better:
QUESTION. Is it necessary to understand the Bible in order to be saved? ANSWER. Certainly not; it is only necessary that you believe it.

QUESTION. Did Christ write anything himself, in the New Testament? ANSWER. Not a word. QUESTION. Did he tell any of his disciples to write any of his words? ANSWER. There is no account of it, if he did. QUESTION. Do we know whether any of the disciples wrote anything? ANSWER. Of course they did. QUESTION. How do you know? ANSWER. Because the gospels bear their names.

Now, do you think it's okay for rank/ file to be here, gaining exit tools and not to share it with the flock, they deeply care about? But instead tell them not to come to these sites? Is that right or fair?
Not much is fair in the org. I understand your feeling that that simply freeing ones mind , gaining exit tools, and continuing to live in as someone in authority in the org is could be viewed as hypocritical. I just don't see any doing this for the pleasure of living a lie.
For most that are leaving, the double standards within the org are upsetting and to live an extended time that way, will get to be too burdensome to bear. I don't condemn those who do stay with the intention of helping others within the org, even if it is within a more narrow scope of thinking, and it will take a lot of discretion to know who can be talked to more openly, and how much to tell these ones, without getting their cover blown. Once that happens, their ability to reach the majority of their friends, family, and any other dubs they come into contact with, will be drastically reduced.
I see this as a cancer from within the org, which in this case is a good thing.

I really do not concern myself with how any man thinks about my opinions ringo. Those days were over long, long ago.
