  Why are they still so obsessed with Dr Spock?

  comment in today's wt, was about dr spock, and his book "that every parent in the world read" apparently (!).

  if it wasn't for the wt's obsessions with the guy i would have no idea who he was, neither i suspect would the vast majority of the congregation.

  there has been a mass of parenting books written since and yet they keep harking back to this one.. do they have no idea how out of touch this makes them seem?.

  Never heard of him outside Watchtower either.

  Alexander Hislop of “Two Babylons”, and historian Will Durant, are another two names I probably never would have heard outside Watchtower. Not to mention the infamous Johannes Greber.

  There’s probably a substantial list of Watchtower “peculiars and favourites” that could be drawn up.

  I think it’s because some Watchtower writers tend to look up the Watchtower index whenever they are writing an article (to the extent they still write general topic articles these days) and repeat whatever quotes and references they find in earlier publications.

  GB Samuel Herd on "Angels and Women"

  i find it interesting that samuel herd (as co) promoted the book angels and women in his talk "fear of giants".

  he called it a fascinating book, once you pick it up you cant put it down without reading it from cover to cover!

  he also mentions that russell wrote the foreword of the book and that it can be found in the gilead library.. .

  Well those are pretty distinctive Christadelphian doctrines, to be sure. So much so that one suspects direct influence, rather than mere coincidence. However universal salvation is pretty incompatible with Christadelphianism, so not sure how it sits.

  Another interesting teaching, I found out, related to the devil thing, is that Christadelphians believe only humans have free will. They believe angels don’t have free will, therefore Satan cannot be an angel who rebelled, because angels cannot rebel.

  I was at one a few years ago. The assigned speaker still had to give the talk. I thought they could have cut everyone some slack and broke for lunch early.

  JWs lack basic common sense. It comes from years of practising obedience without thinking for yourself. Then again, they probably receive instructions from Watchtower to carry on in these circumstances. Watchtower doesn’t like to leave anything to chance, especially when there is a danger local people might make independent decisions that suit their own needs. That sort of madness needs to get stamped out quick sharp.

  my judicial committee was set for monday.

  the message says to call back asap and that he loves me, but he said it like "i love ya, girl" he never has said that to me like that.

  so, i call back and he says i have been a hard person to get a hold of and that confused me because i had not received any calls from him.

  Far be it from me to defend scripture, but my understanding is that the NT teaches that Jesus didn’t come to judge when he came to earth to die, but that he would return in the future to judge the living and the dead.

  This is a very interesting video.

  I wonder, where is the information that he is still a JW? Because his comment along the lines “they call themselves brothers and sisters” indicates to me he may no longer consider himself a JW. Although confusingly, he also says he’s a minister, presumably meaning a JW publisher. I think his status is unclear from this video alone. Is there more information to go on?

  Iriddle80 explained her experience in terms of her Christian faith and Anna Marina responded by agreeing with Iriddle80’s use of scripture.

  It is you who is insisting and promoting your ideology by demanding others not explain their experiences with reference to their faith, stating it is as a “traumatic experience” that many have been through. The demand to leave faith out of it is an ideological position. What’s more, Anna Maria’s perspective is in line with the original poster, and it is you who are using the thread to promote your alternative secular perspective.
