i just got off the phone with my mom.
my mom has been a jw since converting in her teens or early 20s; she is now at the age of "senior discount".
a lifetime in the religion, by choice.

No story to add but a 'posting' suggestion:
Start a new thread that includes "Pedophile Treatment" or some such wording in the heading.
Many people have info to share but are often selective in which threads they read.

i am 20 years old and i left the organization when i was 17. there are of course many gorey details which i will not get into right now... but i just wanted to say how happy i am to have found this fourm.
as many of you remember, we were always instructed not to read anything about jehovah's witnesses that wasn't written by the organization.
well, that instruction stuck, and this is the first time i three years that i have dared to even look.. needless to say, i found some very disturbing information.

I'm new here (since Nov) and it took me 10 years of computer access to get the nerve to look up Jehovah's witnesses. Once I did... WOW.
I stayed up all night 2 nights in a row. only 4 hours sleep in 72 hours. (Obsessive, I admit it....!)

can anyone suggest alternative activities that are group oriented that are allowed by jws and not considered "worldy"?
i am not sure where the line is in regards to right or worng here, if there is a line.
i am trying to get my friend into a group function other than the jws.
Sierra Club They have activities for the public to get involved with out joining.
Not sure how JW-correct it is, though.

we leave wednsday morning (april 13) at 6am.

I'm 17, and the best way to get out is talk with your parents. The deal I have right now, is:
1)I can hang out with my worldly friends and have no curfue, only if I comment and participate a lot in the meetings
2)I can live on the dorms in college, only if I attend the meetings back home with my parents.
3)I can grow my hair out, wear the good clothes, only if I comment and participate a lot in the meetings
4)I can go to college, only if I give the image that I'm still in the Truth.
5)I can date, but I can't let anyone from the hall see me.
Sorry, tsunami. Sounds like your parents are condoning and encouraging a 'Double Life'. Personally, I find it so much better to live an open, honest life with respect for differing views than to pretend to be something I'm not. I think your parents are doing you a severe dis-service. -Aude.

i wonder what the profiles of these people are.
the fact is that every sentence they write is taken by over 6 000 000 people almost as a word of god.
(in fact most of us here, i would imagine, at one time or another felt the same).
Jim Pellachia was CO for many years. He and his wife would stay at our home for 3 weeks at a time.
They got called to Bethel for his wife Renate's computer background when MEPS was being developed.
Later she moved into 'research' (I believe) and he was assigned to writing department.
