abstract .
How can anyone not get that Science doesn't ask: "Is there a God?" Science will probably never ask that. Science can't even begin to establish empirical proof of the existence of an extra-dimensional or spiritual being that can impact us physically, but does not tell us exactly when to test for His presence.

I have friends who are employed as Database Administrators. Their employers LOVE to see them surfing the Web, as long as the sites are not out of line with company policy. When they are surfing there are no problems with the databases. I imagine there are many other jobs in the tech field that are similar. I used to post here from work often, no one cared as long as my work was done in a timely manner.
I think we should mind our own business about why defd is here, who he works for, why he can post from work, or whatever the hell else he asks us not to ask about. Hopefully, if we don't run him away, he'll eventually wake up. If we do run him away, you have saved one for the good ol' Governing Body and won't you be proud.
I pray my family will someday be brave enough to venture into a place like this, I would not want them getting the third degree even if they WERE supporting the GB. Would you want your family memebers to think posting here was not worth the hassle? This is not JUST a forum for ex-JWs, it is also for those who FIRMLY believe the JWs are right.
Defd, as far as I am concerned you are welcome to post here, to discuss issues with me by PM, or to email me if you want. You have every reason to test your ability to defend your faith.

Why can't you move on to more fertile ground than picking on someone who at LEAST believes Jesus exists? Or is your doctrine to SHOVE everyone up to where you are, instantly? Do they risk you damning them all to hell if they don't jump when you tell them to?
You think YOU exemplify Christ in this forum? You impose your doctrines on jgnat, not the other way around. You insist that she is not a Christian, a role I believe Jesus reserves for himself. You want her to adhere to the equivalent of the "stone tablets" of her Church, when Christ forever freed her and everyone else from that bondage.
I really hope you look at what you have written here and become humbled. I don't often shame anyone here, but you are acting Pharisaical and doing it in the name of Christ. The Pharisees did it in the name of Moses. Do you think you are something?

my question may seem vague but if one decides to leave "the organization", why write a formal letter?
why not just leave and not have any further contact with the witnesses?
is there some legitimate legal reason for this or do people do this because the witness thinking has overtaken their logic?
They are now the "Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses." If you write to Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, the CCoJW responds to your letter.
I don't think I will ever write a DA letter, I don't give a crap whether elders visit me. I like them, known 'em since I was little. If they want to talk about "spiritual things" I'm ready for that too. If they DF me, that would be their choice. I would even let three brothers come to my home. I would set a big tape deck right in the middle of the room, and Scripturally challenge their basis for my not recording their words. After all, we aren't a "secret" society, are we?

when i was new to message board posting, i once got a little to involved with the people and found myself sucked into debate and people getting all grouped up in support of one another.
yet, i had never met anyone on the message board.

lately i've been putting a lot of thought in to what is rational and what must be relegated to faith alone.
ever since the scientific method was discovered, humanity has attempted to put it to work in so many areas.
after all, discoveries exploded once we were set free from the shackles of tradition.

Or maybe we must demonstrate faith by action, and by doing, prove it's veracity.
Can the veracity of faith be proven? I would say rather that each person would be left to determine whether we had faith, including God. Tis an interesting idea, though: A flowchart of faith...wonder what that would look like for my faith.

Caedes, I understand the math, however I submit that by the same logic and use of enough unknowns you could make nearly any probablity approach 1. Since it is highly improbable that all possibilities are probabilities approaching 1, I have to disagree that this is an appropriate measure of likelihood for any purpose remotely resembling an application of the Scientific Method to discovery. That said, it is possible there is life but when you compound the improbability of its existence by the improbability of its being intelligent and then add the improbability that we would be able to communicate in any way with it and compound it once again by the requirement that they would have to be able to communicate with us for us to know whether we reached them, it does seem rather pointless to try, doesn't it? In my opinion, there is far greater likelihood --- and far more empirical evidence to suggest --- that spending the money to better qualify teachers would advance humanity, than there is that advancement would result from trying to find intelligent life on other planets.

I do not mean to take a snippy tone with you, but I am peeved at the subject matter itself. I have personal issues with consensus science. In my opinion it is an affront to the scientific method. Consensus science held that the earth was flat, that the earth was the center of the universe and all manner of other completely baseless nonsense. We seek life similar to ourselves in construction because it is that which we can best understand, but if we saw life from another planet would we even recognize it? I believe there is more to be gained from Psychology studying this formula and its supporters than can be gained from science trying to prove it true.
