  Phinehas executed a man for getting married...

  it just dawned on me: the way an israelite got married was by taking a woman into his home/tent.

  when zimri did that with a midianitess, he was killed by phinehas for it.

  where was the standard set forth that they could not marry midianite women on pain of death?

  Does "proselytizer in Christ's name" = "Christian"?

  i am confused by a generally accepted perception that there is a need to proselytize to be a christian, or at least testify.

  any information (preferrably in the form of scripture) that someone can give to shed light on this enigma would be very helpful.. respectfully,.

  well, enosant, you made it here.

  there are many nominal witnesses here, many who have left, many who are leaving and many who've been thrown out.

  admittedly, there is some teeth gnashing going on here, but given that our families have been stripped from us by policies of a multi-billion dollar corporation that operates under the guise of religion i don't think that is an unreasonable reaction.. kick back and enjoy the fresh air.

  toreador asked me for a list of scriptures that strips authority from [groups] who claim to speak for god or who claim to have "the truth.

  " i answered his question, but realized that others might be able to benefit from these, too.. so, if you want to take the path i took, study these chunks (paragraph context minimum) of scripture and ask two questions of each:.

  (1) what does the bible say about spirit?.

  thanks to lilycurly, i don't think i will be able to even nominally remain a witness for much longer.

  the whole "fading" thing goes against the grain anyway.. i arrived here, as my first venture into ex-jw land, as a lurker.

  within a few hours, i spotted two people i knew whoto my surprisehad not yet become ex-ex-jws but were still posting here.

  on page 146 of what does the bible really teach?, the opening sentence of paragraph 6 purports to represent one of the six criteria for determining the true religion.

  it reads: "god's servants base their teachings on the bible.".

  Daniel 4:10-17

  the meaning of daniel 4:10-17 is found in daniel 4:20-27. i am going to place the interpretation daniel gives for each element beside the interpretation given by the christian congregation of jehovah's witnesses.. i invite any witness to explain why the interpetation given in the bible is open to re-interpretation of a later fulfillment that does not correspond, on a single element, with the orginal interpretation.. .
