Did Jesus tell a fib?
by gumby inif i remember correctly, many christians have been tortured and killed through the centuries.
their enemies killed them.
none of them that i know of ever had power over rattlesnakes or scorpions to the extent these critters never bit them.........so.......did jesus lie that they would be immune to deadly critters, and that they wouldn't ever be harmed,.....or did god allow a spurious scripture in his spirit directed holy word that could have caused the death of many if they trusted this scripture?.

If I am not mistaken, In Luke 10, Jesus is talking to "70 others" plus the 12 apostles. And, I believe in Luke 10:19 he is only talking to these 82, not Christian for centuries to come, and the first group of his disciples and chosen followers that went out by two's to spread the word.
What? Hondo, are you recommending that gumby consider context?
Actually, that seems pretty reasonable to me.
What a damnable waste of my 666 post! Why wasn't I paying closer attention? Now I'll have to run through town naked, falling asleep on my watch like that. By the by, very uncomfortable bed that watch was, too. It isn't like I got something good in exchange for the streaking to come.
Crap!!!

update in the life of me
by tsunami_rid3r inok its a "my hair is too long" issue again.
i have the choice of attending all meetings until college if i just keep my hair combed and packed down so it looks short.
my dad will pay all the bills i have and i can keep/save all the money i make until college.

I would take the money and sit through the meetings. That way you can make comments during the meeting to the effect that you are being paid by your father to be there. You would make the meetings so much more interesting for everyone in attendance. It's really the least you could do.
Why don't JW parents learn from the lesson of the prodigal son? The son who ended up most favored was the one who squandered his half of the inheritance on worldly pursuits.

What age were you baptised? Do you regret it?
by doodle-v ini would have gotten baptised at the first "special assembly day" but i got sick just a few days before.
so i got baptised at the d.c.that same year instead.
i regret it, but at the time i thought i was doing the right thing, i sincerely believed i was dedicating my life to serving god.

I'd rather not say, just yet. I don't regret my life choices. They are part of who I am. I won't regret leaving the bOrg either.

*** w96 4/15 pp. 28-29 Questions From Readers ***
One case that involved apostolic authority to forgive or retain sins involved Ananias and Sapphira, who played false to the spirit. Peter, who heard Jesus utter what we read at John 20:22, 23, exposed Ananias and Sapphira. Peter first addressed Ananias, who died on the spot. When Sapphira later came in and kept up the falsehood, Peter proclaimed her judgment. Peter did not forgive her sin but said: "Look! The feet of those who buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out." She too died on the spot.?Acts 5:1-11.

Just to make sure that the WTS can't label us liars and deceivers on this one, the WTS is still an NGO. As an NGO, they are no longer affiliated to or associated to or joined with the UN/DPI. If anyone on this forum refers to the WTS as an NGO it should be understood that they mean in connection to the association of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York with the UN/DPI as an NGO Affiliate.
NGO means "non-governmental organization," and is a generic term that applies to most grocery stores, hardware stores, printeries, fisheries, and even restaurants. Read in context (which many Jehovah's Witnesses would understandably suck at) NGO refers specifically to the relationship established between the WTS and the UN/DPI. The WTS was never a member of the UN. They were, however, joined with the UN/DPI.
Whether or not there was any Criteria for Association, that relationship disassociated them from their own teachings by their own standards. (om p. 151, par. 1; od p. 155, par. 2)

SNG,
Better a MisImperv than a misanthrope, eh? Probably has something to do with us recognizing the sleight of hand and mental jujitsu the ol' GB tried to use on us.
LittleToe,
Reading comprehension is a skill on the decline in the Western world, it seems.

Thank you, brave forerunners, for sparing me money I need to spend on other things. I was going to tighten belts to see the flick at the theater, but now I know a DVD will play as well.
I absolutely loved the books. Please, tell me now, should I spare myself the disappointment and avoid even the DVD?
Thanks in advance,
