Was I Disrespectful to Dr Singelenberg?
by slimboyfat inas some may know, richard singelenberg is a dutch anthropologist who studies jehovah's witnesses.
he has produced academic articles and reviews on issues ranging from the 1975 disappointment and child custody cases to jehovah's witnesses in nazi germany and the history of the blood doctrine.
sometimes he sides with apostates and sometimes he sides with the witnesses on controversial issues (though i personally suspect the former impulse is greater than the latter).

professional opinions = professional practice
professional opinions = opinions that are paid for or explicitly offered in a professional capacity. Nothing about HS' statement would prompt any specific legal course of action.
Not all professional opinions are educated opinions.
Not all educated opinions are professional opinions.
participating for gain or livelihood in an activity or field of endeavor often engaged in by amateurs professional golfer> b : having a particular profession as a permanent career professional soldier> c : engaged in by persons receiving financial return <professional football>
You are wrong.
seesthesky: btt, I am so sorry for misdirecting the thread.
next post
seesthesky: oldsoul, I am misdirecting the thread to say one more thing. but you should not respond, because I am an excessively long-eared beast of burden. Now that I am done trying to prove my libelous criminal case against HS, despite the fact that I am not a lawyer and am talking out of my aspects, btt.

i do not understand what you mean by calling me an "officer" - an officer of what?
Policing posters.
"they can . . . be sued" = a
legalconclusion about a particular party in a particular set of circumstancesAnd quite an accurate one, at that. Given the set of circumstances described, there is ample available material in the public record to support that conclusion. Offering an opinion on a matter of law does not automatically constitute practice of law. Stating a conclusion from of a hypothetical set of circumstances offered certainly does not constitute practice of law.
What is required to sue someone? Must the lawsuit be heard to be a lawsuit? No. You can bring suit against someone on nearly any premise you care to. In the circumstances described by HS the great likelihood is the case would even be heard, but all that is required to sue someone is filing the proper papers. So, HS was entirely correct and you were entirely pedantic.
If you are really sorry for hijacking the thread, by all means prove it.

seesthesky: he offered an opinion on a specific situation - that's the practice of law - it's like a lay person offering a medical opinion about a specific medical situation
Offering an opinion is not the practice of law. I defy you to demonstrate where HS advised SBF to follow a course of legal action, to alter a course of legal action, or to abstain from a course of legal action. That would be practice of law. If I hear symptoms that sound like pleurisy and I say to someone, "That sounds like pleurisy. You should get that checked." I did not pretend to be a doctor, nor did I practice medicine.
HS offered an opinion, which is protected by the First Amendment. I can say that without being a lawyer. It is my opinion. Would you like to test my opinion by charging me, officer? You are an officer, right?
State Bar of California Article 7
Clearly, HS did not hold himself out to be a lawyer and his opinion did not constitute legal opinion. You are behaving like a nitpicker.

by Bambie init's been 15 years since i was df'd, but i seem to recall as a jw that the belief was that the only human after adam that jehovah spoke directly to was jesus.. my question has to do with what the org.

JW Ben is correct. They do not claim spirit-inspiration. They do claim spirit-direction, and any who get baptized (since 1985) have acknowledged that belief publicly. Merriam-Webster shows that spirit inspiration is very, very different from spirit direction. Spirit inspiration is much milder.
JW Ben, to know is a terrible thing. Are you sure you want to be here? You still have not responded to my thread I started: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/10/86862/1.ashx

seesthesky: r u a lawyer or barrister? - if not, can anyone where u live practice law without a license? where i live it's a crime - seriously
I think your head is in the clouds. Practicing law is different from discussing law. And in many free countries, the right to self-representation makes the technically accurate answer to your text-messaging question a resounding YES! Anyone where I live can practice law as long as it is for themselves. HS ended with "Check the law." He directed the person to the authoritative source for support of his view.
