Maybe God is about creating life, and we are just supposed to live it and depend on each other and learn something during our lifetime. Maybe God wants people to be free and that's why on a daily basis God isn't "fixing" everything because that is the whole point of freedom.

Just a thought-Has anyone ever wondered?
by redhotchilipepper inmaybe if there is a god, that maybe he doesn't want us to know who he is?
maybe he only wants to know us through prayer.
maybe the bible is a hoax?

I'm Fading.... From This Board
by rocketman inas 2004 winds down and my 4th year of association at this board winds down as well, my posting stats accurately reflect a transitition that been going on for me with respect to the jw religion, a process that is quite natural and healthy.
i'm sure that many members have had a similar experience.
here's a rundown of four years here for me: .

It's extremely wonderful to no longer be identified with being a publisher and now being proud to be a POSTER!
I love that!

Maybe they divorce less, but are they happy together?
by JH ini met an ex-witness at the mall last week, and she told me that she recently divorced her husband.
both were witnesses for over 20 years.
i was surprised to hear that they were divorced.

I don't know of many that really looked happy, meaning to me that held hands and acted lovingly. Of course holding hands during the closing prayer was almost a given. Everyone did that to look "right" but I know of a couple who had seperate bedrooms, I know of one sister who was married and went on "dates" with wordly guys just to get some attention. She finally years later committed adultery but they didn't split up.
I think they believe that if they do all the right things that finally someday everything will be fixed and they will be happy. But I didn't see all that much evidence of it in the present tense.

Do witnesses picket when they are on strike?
by JH inwhen a company is on strike and employees picket outside the building with signs, do witness employees participate in any way?
usually there is a strike fund for those who picket.
what about the witnesses, how do they proceed when their company is on strike, and do they get the same amount of money as the others who picket?.

I remember it being against the rules to join a union or be a member. Of course I don't have the facts to support that, but when I was 19 I got a job where the union was offered and membership was optional and I had to turn it down on the advice of my mother who gave me all the "scriptural" reasons, but I can't remember them now.

One thing I learned is
It's never too late to have a Happy Childhood.
Go and do the things that you never got to do, have a birthday party at Chucke Cheese, buy yourself balloons, send yourself flowers. If you have to do it yourself, so what? Throw your own birthday party. I had my first Birthday party when I was 25, threw a huge bash at my house and people came and we had a blast, lasted until 5am... never will forget it!!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

The Worst Watchtower I've Ever Read
by MungoBaobab init wasn't the straw that broke the camel's back.
that back had already broken.
it was more of the last nail in the coffin for my allegiance to the wts.

There wasn't any one article or one catalyst for me. It was a compilation of a lot of bullcrap.
I do remember thinking how I used to spout off "we read the bible all the time" and "I've read the Bible 4 times" because we used to do the bible reading every 2 years.... BUT, when I went to the doors and went to the meetings it was the SAME scriptures being cited OVER AND OVER again. It was like "yeah we read the whole bible, but we only use about 20 scriptures to prove our point"
I actually used to pay attention at the meetings, take notes, look up every verse, but by the time I was 14 years old I didn't even need to turn to the scriptures anymore because when they said Revelations 7:14 I knew EXACTLY what it would say word for word. That bothered me. I actually had all the verses memorized, nothing new.
The "spritual food" was not given at the proper time. Those of us maybe who were thinking didn't get enough, it was all baby's milk, they never moved on past that stage and really got into solid food. There was no open discussions about philosophy, about the congregations thoughts/feelings... the only comments made at any meeting were taken right out of the specific paragraph you were studying. No questions either.

A possible 'cure' for shunning?
by Jim_TX inas a youngster... i remember seeing a movie called 'fiddler on the roof'.. in that movie - about a jewish family... three daughters who get married... one goes off and follows her heart - which means that she goes against 'tradition' of the jews.. as a result - her father - does the 'jewish' thing... and rips his garments while saying "i have no daughter.
" (very melodramatic.
) he then shuns her.. (sound familiar?).

It wouldn't make a lick of difference to my mom. I don't think she sympathizes with anyone but herself.

Jael With The Nail..
by Englishman inthis little snippet from the survival book intrigued me somewhat:.
>>>>>>13 some 180 years after hobab decided to go with israel, one of his descendants, a man named heber, was living with his wife, jael, not far from megiddo.
heber had separated himself from the rest of the kenites and had entered into peaceful relations with jabin, a canaanite king who harshly oppressed israel.

The absolute brutality in the Bible always confused me. It reads more like a history book, then about serving God.
The terrorists fighting for Allah think if they kill an American they are doing "god's will"... what's different from their belief than what Jael did? You can't tell me because she was serving Jehovah she was right and justified, and they are wrong because they don't have the "truth"....
Murder is wrong. Always has been. But is glorified and praised according to what you posted. Makes no bit of sense to me.

Cool.
I love statistics. Just love 'em!!!!
The other thing is we know that everyone who comes here can read english, has a computer, and is trying to educate themselves on the subject. That is a huge feat in itself.
