  Terri Schiavo petition on site

  i was reading through the terrisfight.org site and ran across the section "how you can help".

  there is a petition to sign on the site to save terri.

  The thing is there are THOUSANDS of people every year that face this and their parent or legal guardian make the choices if they don't have a living will. It happens every single day. It reminds us to each have a living will and to communicate to our family members what we want.

  I don't think anyone besides her legal guardian has the right to an opinion or a right to impose their own thoughts on the matter. It's a personal family matter. ALL THE COURTS AGREE. If her rights were being violated they would have made a different decision, but this is all legal.

  Personally I would want my husband to make the same decision her husband is. I feel sick at the thought her parents have turned her into a spectacle on national television. It's a circus. That video footage is from 2001, and they are still playing that same 3 second bit. It's 2005. We have no idea what state she is in, but the COURT APPOINTED DOCTORS all said she is in a vegetative state that is permanent. We need to respect the right to choose, hers and her husbands.

  Update on my disassociation

  i went to the kingdom hall for the very last time.

  i went in the door in my guns n roses t-shirt and ripped up lucky jeans, new earrings and goatee.

  i went up to the po of the congregation and told him i needed to talk to him.

  Congratulations... there was a lot of TRUTH in that letter. I am so glad that more and more young people are getting the courage to walk away from that life of insanity.

  i have always wondered: to what extent do the elders go to get contributions?.

  how closely do you think the elders work with individuals?.

  My mom couldn't donate regularly because we were dirt poor, but when she made some big money on a job and FINALLY had a few pennies, instead of buying me new shoes I will never forget she would put 1/2 the money in the box to make up for all the times she couldn't donate. Sometimes that would be $500 at a time. For us living in a trailer park, that was HUGE money.

  The contribution/donation arragement also made it harder on Witnesses if they didn't get a substantial enough donation, some would feel obligated to pay for literature that they placed if the householder didn't.

  A comment I heard tonight

  tonight i heard one of the most cruel and twisted comments i've ever heard at the platform.

  the topic was the apocalypse and whether or not children will be slaughtered.

  through one side of his mouth, the po stated that the bible is not clear on the matter, while out the other side he pointed to all those old testament accounts where children were killed.

  My mother used to say comments like that all the time. How all the kids I was going to school with were going to DIE at Armaggedon, etc.

  People did seem to laugh about death of children, have a wicked sense of humor, no compassion. It all seems very freaky now to think about.

  i just posted this on another thread, but wanted to make sure everyone sees it.

  btw, i had to make the decision along with my siblings to disconnect my mother from life support.

  there is a point where it is better to let your loved one slip away, i think.

  I think everyone should butt out and allow her guardian, her husband, to do what the courts have decided is his right.

  I know I would NEVER want to live like she is. A hundred years ago this wouldn't be an issue, someone invented feeding tubes... she can't eat, can't swallow, her body can't function. She has no quality of life. Allow her dignity. I wish the media would leave her alone.

  C.O. visit; They sound desperate.

  my mother recently told me that the congregation was scolded by their district sales manager....errr circuit overseer for poor meeting attendance.

  it seems that at times attendance would sink as low as 60%.

  she didn't respond when i said that maybe there was something good on television that night.

  All I can say is that our local Irish pub had to literally close it's doors because they were over capacity last Thurs night. They couldn't fit anyone else inside the building.

  So, if the Kingdom Halls were all turned into Irish pubs, they'd be full. I'm just saying.

  Personal Accomplishments

  for years, the watchtower drilled into us that we are just specs of unimportant dust.

  personal pride was touted as being something wrong and a trait of the devil.

  that mentality stifles creativity and initiative, which i suppose is what they want.

  I think part of it too is JWs set their goals extrememly low.

  When you leave you actually have to re-evaluate and actually GET GOALS to GET ACCOMPLISHMENTS. You have to decide, am I going to go to school? Am I going to get an education? Am I going to get a career or stay in the lawn moving business? Am I going to buy a house? All the normal goals that even teengers think about.... so starting goals in the first step.

  About the 89 WT quote.

  frenchy, i actually read the article in the 89 watchtower the following quote comes from.. w89 9/1 19 remaining organized for survival into the millennium.

  "7 only jehovahs witnesses, those of the anointed remnant and the "great crowd," as a united organization under the protection of the supreme organizer, have any scriptural hope of surviving the impending end of this doomed system dominated by satan the devil.".

  reading the article it appears to me that the statement, pretty direct as i said in one of my other posts, is based on the understanding of the status of sheep and goats at that time.

  hahaa... I love this thread even if it's ancient. But it's true, I believed that ONLY JWs would surivive Armeggedon.... but some JWs find it hard to actually say the words that everyone else will be destroyed that includes their children's kindergarten teacher, their neighbor, their local mailman, all of whom might have been nice to them and maybe helped them out in the past. That is the thing, if anyone believes they aren't going to be destroyed, they might be too nice and too compassionate to be a JW, because the FDS believe they will be destroyed.

  there is apparently no chance at all of her ever recovering from her present state, but do you think she should live or die?

  for myself, i think she's better off dead than living---no, existing---in her present state.

  i for one, have instructed my family to let me die if something like this ever happened to me.

  I only read news that is actually written by legitimate news stations. Either post something on CNN or FOXNEWS or MSNBC. Those articles you keep posting are run by a website that has an agenda. It might look like news to you, but it looks like propaganda to me.

  Bottom line is: This happens every day. People get unplugged every day, this case has gotten a lot of attention but it's not the only case like it.

  My question to everyone that wants her to stay on the feeding tube is this? WILL YOU PAY FOR HER CARE? Is everyone that wants her to stay alive willing to fun the care she will need for the next 50 years while she lays in that hospital bed? Everyone has an opinion, but who wants to step up and actually provide the care, including changing her diaper, changing her sheets, etc for the next 15 years? This doesn't come cheap. In fact it you're on life support it will run into the thousands every day. If the government steps in, are they going to also use tax payer dollars now to fund her care? Do they want ALL the responsibility?

  I keep thinking the same thing. My husband and I were talking about the extreme "freedom" we have in this country compared to other countries where you can be tried for a crime and executed the next day. There are more places that "live by the sword" where we seem to live by long drawn out courts here. It's really a shame that in the interest of freedom, criminals continue to offend.

  I have no idea what the solution is, but I don't believe in rehabilitation.
