anyone ever think that by the time John wrote Revelation he was s chizophrenic , senile, and basically just writing all kinds of crazy chit? I mean seriously if some aging man was imprisoned today and wrote "Revelation" he would be dismissed as having lost his mind.

Update On Husband Troubles
by Doubtfully Yours insince i burdened you all with my marriage problems earlier, i thought it'd be only fair that i should give you all an update of how things are going.
i feel that my husband and i love eachother very much, but he's so conflicted and divided because his loyalty towards the wtbts is so strong.. we reconciled, cried a lot and had a heart-to-heart talk, long and elaborate.
let all our thoughts and frustrations out in the open.

I don't know much of your story, but here's my take. I love my husband very much also... I love him for the man he is, the person he is. Not his beliefs. We differ on many different political views, etc... and we just love each other. When we go to bed at night, we always cuddle and I am always thankful for him.
I can't tell you what to do, you will figure that out for yourself... but there has to be a happy place where you can get to where you can both be happy. Just don't think that if you do all the compromising that you won't end up resenting him/or the marriage. Find a spot where you both compromise.
And let's all hope that one day down the road the lights gets to bright that he takes the blinders off.
Good luck to you.

OLD FOLKS-ASSISTED LIVING HOME OR CRUISE SHIP
by outoftheorg inwhat are us old folks to do?
use up our money living in an "assisted living" old folks home or spend the money on a cruise ship??.
sounds like a ridiculous question, doesn't it??

I live in FL, near many cruise ships and I heard that there was an older lady who cruised permanently. I think it was on Royal Caribbean. She was ALWAYS on a boat and always dined and socialized and danced.... can't verify it's true... but it's a great idea. I like it! Plus there is the added benefit of Cabana boys to do my fetching and toting... why bother with some stupid nurse when there is a Cabana boy around to bring me a drink with an umbrellie in it!!!!

The thing is, all you have to do is have a "vision" of some sort of some "feeling" that you have been anointed. There is no clear cut way to know or for anyone else to know. They just always said "if you are of the anointed YOU KNOW" and so if you questioned it, you obviously weren't of the anointed.
And I keep wondering how long they all will last too... I mean what's going on here? And once they die off and the anointed Governing Body die off, then what??? My mom is 61 yoa, I would love for her to live another 20 years and face the truth that it ain't happening.

Corporal punishment
by JustTickledPink inmy opinion is that jw's are into corporal punishment more than the general population.
maybe it's my imagination, maybe not.. do you remember being told "not to spare the rod" in disciplining children?
do you remember being that kid that got beat?.
-

"bring 'em to the bathroom to beat 'em." love that... that is just classic!
It pains me for little kids getting hit... I also remember that some elders counseled mothers on how to TRAIN their kids to sit through meetings, to have them sit still at home every day for an hour until they were TRAINED to sit at meetings.

by kwintestal ingrowing up as a jw kid i dreaded going to the meetings.
as a 3 yr old child i was expected to sit quietly in my seat.
as quite an active child myself this was impossible and lead to be taken "downstairs" on several occasions each meeting (you all know what happens "downstairs").

I think because most of the meetings and most of publications are written at a 5th grade level. I can't remember where my sister got that info, but it's true. If you read the Watchtower or Awake, they offer very simple sentences and words... that anyone can understand.
They do start at the elementary level, that is why kids are supposed to be in the meetings.... the meetings never progress to University level. Are you kidding? I never remember a meeting being intellectually stimulating or complex, no, you just read the paragraphs and then comment on the article and everyone nods their heads. That is why kids that are like 5 yeards old can comment at meetings because they are very elementary.
Sorry, but the whole thing is like Sunday school.
But I agree that kids should be taught on their level... I don't know that many kids that can even sit still through a 2 hour disney movie and THAT's exciting!

Question for Christians on this board!
by Greenpalmtreestillmine indo you believe the bible is the word of god?

I remember the JW religion teaching that the Bible was INSPIRED by God. Now, if an artist is inspirted by the mountains or by the beach and paints a picture, did the mountains or beach paint the picture? or did the artist?
That is how I feel about the Bible. I think many men sat and thought about God, much as people do today and they wrote down a lot of their thoughts and experiences and stories that pertained to the day. They wrote their thoughts down.
I think God teaches us about himself in his creation, spend a day outside. Spend a day in the mountains or near the beach and see if God inspires you. I hate to sounds like some nature freak, but the most spritual experiences I have ever had, were not in any church, they were outside where I was quiet in nature and it seemed that praying was so easy.
Get inspired yourself.

I remember that question and I remember this answer being given to me... that at some point during the "anointed" persons life if they became unfaithful, they could be removed from that 144,000 number and when that happens a SLOT OPENS UP!!! whipppeee... anyways, at that point Jehovah sends a message to the "filler" and they could become anointed right then. I knew a lady who professed to be of the anointed and she was only in her 40's.
So there might be several that "stumble" and become unfaithful and then there would be replacements and who knows how long that process could potentially take.
