MA: I was not suggesting that you were not correct or precise. I was merely saying that if we use the word "partner" it sounds more incriminating to the WTS. I prefer to use the word "partner" for this sole reason. Get it?

Have you ever thought about going back? I mean getting reinstated so as to have contact with your family again? Perhaps you can go back in and ultimately save your grandchildren. I don't know. It's just a thought. You seem depressed. I have thought of going back just to get my sister out. But I haven't reached that point yet.

Watchtower House of Cards
by TMS inis it not somewhat ironic that three embarassing, contradictory policy decisions involve the use of cards?.
these matters are all fully detailed and documented in current posts and in the archives.. 1. the mexican cartilla.
2. the political card in malawi.

Yeah! Tell it to the brothers in Malawi: "Yes, brothers, we became partners with the UN but we only did it to get a library card....oh no no no no, brothers, don't run away ... come back! Don't let that stumble you. I'm sorry your wife and daughter were raped ... This is the TRUTH, goddammit! Where else will you go?"
If it wasn't so sad it would be funny!

Re: the WT's "library card" defense
by CatholicGuy inwe've seen internet copies of paul gillies letter and the translation of the letter sent to beroea.
does anyone have a hard copy of a letter from the society in english that can be scanned in?
it would seem that someone at the un could comment on the society's characterization that they never understood their membership as a ngo to be anything more than allowance to use the un library.

The defense is indefenisble! Think about a conversation with a dub:
X-dub: How do you reconcile the Watchtower's interpretation that the UN is the "Beast" with its becoming a partner and hiding such relationship for 9+ years?
Dub: Well, you see, they wanted access to their library in order to get information about the UN for the spiritual banquet of well oiled dishes in the magazines. They didn't know that they had to SUPPORT the UN's goals.
X-dub: Really? Well, I'm sure I have seen evidence that they did know. Would you like to see it?
Dub: No it is apostate propaganda. I take the GB's word for it that they didn't know they had to support the UN's goals.
X-dub: Well, okay. But are the GB really guided by the Holy Spirit?
Dub: Well, yes, they are the anointed brothers of Christ. Christ is the head of the congregation.
X-dub: So, you mean to tell me that Christ himself was behind the GB's aligining themselves in a partnership with the beast?
Dub: Well, uh, the GB are only human. They just wanted to use the libary I tell you. It was an honest mistake. It's the apostates I tell you!
X-dub: Aren't the "apostates" responsible for bringing to light this relationship of the GB with the beast?
Dub: Well, uh, yes they are, Sir.
X-dub: And were it not for the "apostates" isn't it true that the GB would still be in darkness as to the true nature of their relationship with the beast?
Dub: Well, the apostates did bring it to light.
X-dub: So the "apostates" actually "guided" the GB to make their decision to abandon their partnership with the beast?
Dub: Well, you might be able to say that.
X-dub: So the "apostates" were used by Jesus to reveal this to the GB?
YOu see, even this pitiful excuse that the GB made up has holes all over it. Just like all of their doctrines. Nothing but gaping holes. I actually am looking forward to these conversations with dubs -- especially if they come up with this lame excuse for the PARTNERSHIP their beloved GB had with the UN.

Mad, I think if we're going to be specific, it would be to our advantage to call it a "partnership" status instead of "associate" status. Using the word "partner" is also truthful since the DPI also uses such terminology to describe the relationship. And it has much greater impact to the JW mindset.

Lilac, I don't think Russell was an "SDA" But rather both the Bible Students and the SDA's stem from the ADVENTIST movement of the 1800's.

A Call to my Priest
by Amazing in1969: i was still studying with the jws, attending meetings, and preparing for baptism.
one of the requirements was that i notify my previous religion, the roman catholic church where i was baptized as a baby in 1951, and demand they remove me from membership.. catholic policy: i wrote to my priest in southern california to follow-up on the jw requirement to write to the catholic church and demand removal.
but, unlike most churches, the catholic church never removes anyone from the membership.

Amazing: I also appreciated your story. I never wrote a letter to the RCC but I did go to my parish priest whom has been a friend of the family for 20+ years. When I left the JW's I called him and he was sooo happy to hear it. I don't remember it, but I guess I was a royal bitch to him when I joined the JW's. (selective memory I guess) He tried to help me I remember and gave me very old "apostate" literature. Stupid me -- I read it but still joined.
Anyways, I knew the RCC's view that if you are baptized Catholic you are always a child of the Church. So that was why I didn't bother with the letter.
It feels good joining my family for Mass, baptisms, first communions, confirmations. In fact, my nephew asked me to be his godmother for his confirmation and my sister asked me to be the godmother of her baby when it's born.
Right now I go to Mass when I feel like Mass, Calvary Chapel when I feel like Calvary. Basically, I join anyone who invites me to their church if I feel like it. And nobody judges me - NO ONE! Except of course my JW sister (laugh).
Isn't it great to be human again!
