they slammed on the breaks and heard a loud thump.

they tried to put the car into reverse and it will not move into reverse.

I did find a mechanic. Turns out one of the parents from my school where I work is a mechanic and it's a small community where a lot of people know and trust this man. I never knew he was the owner of this automobile repair place and I'm sooooo glad I found out! Whew! He's looking at it for the girls free of charge.

I am going to tell him all of the possibilities you have stated here. He said even if they need a rebuilt tranny he would be fair in the price.

OMG! Thanks Jeff T. I will look into it. I don't think we have the manual but I will search on line. Don't you think the mechanic would have thought of this? Unless ... we can't trust the mechanic????

Can this happen? What on earth???? I'm so frustrated. These girls have two jobs each and go to school full time. They have their own apartment and pay all their own bills. Now THIS!!! They share their vehicle, which is a 2001 Ford Focus. If anyone has any leads for a good, reliable mechanic in Chino Hills, California, and any knowledge about what is happening, please reply. Thank you so much.

Why on earth do you need to pay into your own retirement plan? Why do you pay for a part of your own insurance? Why do you have to negotiate your pay? It's because you do not have a union.
I have never understood the attitude of "I don't have it so why should they have it?" I've always thought if they have something I want, I should fight to get the same thing.
FYI, a union member can be fired for doing a shitty job. It happens all the time. Sometimes the union workers can be fired for missing work, it happens all the time and the Unions do not protect them.

Public employees are taxpayers too. There are bad workers everywhere. I don't agree with protecting a bad worker, unionized or not. But the FACT is that much of the protections employees get from the Labor Board (not unions) are thanks to the hard work and sacrifice of unions and union workers/strikers of an earlier time.

I think the bar has been lowered so much as far as what employees should expect for their hard work that it makes it seem like what union members is out of line. It's NOT! There was a time when large corporations gave great pensions and an employee who worked for a large company could expect to retire happily and well provided for after all his/her years of dedication. Not any more. It used to be that COLA raises were common practice. Not any more. It used to be that insurance was affordable. Not any more. But instead of looking at the causes of all of those breakdowns, the GOP and their ilk found a scapegoat: public employees and their unions. Yeah. Right.

Pension funds are under funded thanks to Wall Street. The governors of the states with this problem should go to Wall Street which was bailed out by the American Taxpayer (Yes, even the public employees)!!!

And anyone who is NOT a billionaire yet supports anti union agenda and at the same time supports Citizens United is an idiot.

people who are contemplating a lawsuit against the elders and/or the watchtower society over action taken or not taken by the elders should be sure to tell their lawyers about the existence of the shepherding the flock of god book.

in the event of a lawsuit, the lawyer would be able to obtain a copy as part of the discovery process since the contents of such a procedural manual can be used to show whether or not the elders were following watchtower procedures in what they were doing.

Simon, I think sometimes former JWs who have never been Catholic mistunderstand how Catholics view the Pope. The Pope is NOT God's "spokesman" in the sense the GB are to the dubs. That's why modern Catholics don't always listen to what the Pope says on things like birth control, abortion, etc. Because Catholics are not taught that the Pope somehow gets info from God's Holy Spirit and is behind the scenes revealing things through his spokesman and if you don't listen to him it's like not listening to God himself.

I'm definitely not a Catholic apologist because I'm no fan of Benedict but in the things you cited, I have no issue with those. The Pope recently said some things you and I BOTH would agree with though and not sure you heard about it. He said that universal healthare is a right, not a privilege.

If the Pope actually spread that through the Bishops to all Catholics (Including our friend, Burn the Ships), the Christians on the Left would finally be able to compete with the Party of NO!
