  they know many people are fearful and feeling vulnerable due to world events.. but something i’ve always considered is how will they be better off by becoming a jw.

  they can be a jw, but the world events still are happening causing everyone anxiety.

  and no, jws are not immune from this, jws are more anxious and paranoid as ever right now.

  What evidence is there that the ordinary JW “wants to preach so badly”?

  I don’t see it. The ones I know in family are loving the break and seem to have forgotten their former routine. I hear nothing about the ministry, except cynical laughter when an elder dared to ask if they had a report.

  Anyway , what benefits would a convert get? I have hardly seen a new one for years unless you count the lonely foreigner who was distinctly, ahem, mentally challenged.

  Still, he would get , community, a sense of belonging, perhaps a faith, some Bible knowledge, perhaps a hope for a better future... Even though we can see that to be false.

  growing up in the 70's and 80's in the jw religion who remembers the massive stadium gigs the watchtower used to hold?.

  we used to denounce false religion in the starkest of terms.

  we were right and by god we were letting anyone who listened know it.

  Yet another oldie who remembers fondly the big conventions of my childhood. Never mind 15,000 Number Six... I am sure sure it was nearer 50,000 at the biggest Twickenham events . I did my share of washing trays ...sometimes we endured the heat otherwise rain ,being Britain...

  I can remember well old Fred Franz shouting his stuff into the microphone, seemed to go on eternally.

  Do You Think We Will Ever Get Back To “Normal”?

  i hope that within the next several months we will get back to some type of normalcy.

  will restaurants ever get filled again?

  will you ever be able to sit at a bar or go to a concert or broadway show?.

  Yes , I am sure we will. Six months ago we were " normal" . Nobody had heard of Coviid19 . I have seen too events to think it cannot go back. Yes we will have a recession but the world economy will recover.

  Mankind survived bubonic plague and Spanish Flu. We will get through this.

  I do not doubt the authenticity of these clips, but it would be better to have some references to the original videos , it would be good to see the sound bites in context....

  Nevertheless it cannot be anything less than presumption to claim that Isaiah was prophesying directly about modern elders...of course he was not. It may be what the best of them aspire to but certainly the vast majority fall a long way short.

  Peace and security

  scrolling through the news this morning and i couldn’t help to think we are light years from any leaders crying out peace and security.

  jws are going to have to wait another decade or two and see how things develop before they get excited about armageddon coming in their lifetime.

  As for the P &S cry? That has been expected for years, especially during the years of Glasnost and every treaty. Seems further away than ever now.. But dubs tell me that "God will put it into their hearts when he is ready"

  the latest watchtower of august 2020 discusses on page 15, "how will the resurrection likely take place?".

  since learning real truths as opposed to the org's version of truth, has your view of the resurrection changed significantly?

  just one example - regardless of psalm 37:9,11,29: matthew 5:5 & revelation 21:3,4, do you now believe that our destination is heaven rather than earth?.

  Kind of loaded thread title, "STILL believing Christians" as if there were something wrong with that.

  I still believe. I have read lots of atheist views and non are convincing to me . Each to their own at the end of the day.

  The o/p asks about the ressurection. I no longer expect a New World and ressurection as the JWs do, but whatever God has in store for us, I guess I will find out soon enough !

  you can't escape bias in the news media, so making it visible is the next best thing.. just came across this site which aims to label the news stories to show who is covering it.

  I don't think the BBC are that bad, compared to some I could mention. ...

  But they are certainly not perfect and at times a bias shows through, usually anti whichever party is in government at the time.

  I try to read news from a variety of sources to get a spread of views. I often check out Reuters which is pretty good ,IMO.

  Scientists have been divided so it is easy to find advice for and against them. Here they are not mandatory but now officially advised in indoor places. The idea is not to stop the wearer catching it but to reduce the spread of droplets from someone who has it, perhaps unknowingly.

  So yes, I would wear one in a shopping mall or anywhere not open air. I see it as a civic duty to others
