Thanks for the information. .. I was able to listen to it now on the BBC website link. Even living in Britain I was not aware of this programme. I wonder what audience they get on Radio 4 ?

BBC Sunday Morning on Jehovah's Witnesses
by Newly Enlightened inin august the jehovah’s witnesses will give evidence to the independent inquiry into child sex abuse.
submissions will also be heard from survivors who have criticised the church’s handling of abuse allegations.
their appearance comes as campaigners around the world are questioning why the religion is restructuring the organisation and selling off substantial amounts of property.

I doubt the younger ones are familiar with it at all bur oldies could debate it at length .We on the look out for the King of the North to enter "the land of decoration" (more to follow, maybe next week)
This article makes a grand claim in par 2
"And even though God’s servants make up only a small portion of the world’s population, they are often at the center of major world events. Why? Because Satan and his entire system have one prime objective—conquering those who serve Jehovah and Jesus."
At the centre ? No Christians were involved when Ghengis Khan tore across Asia in the Middle Ages. I am sure you can think of other examples.
The next few paragraphs identify the King of the South in the 20th/21st century. . that is declared to be the Anglo American dual World Power
Now it is true that during the World Wars they formed alliances (including Russia in WW2) and we sometimes hear of a "special relationship" . However, that relationship has proved thin in recent times and I suggest that both Nations would be annoyed to be considered sharing power. The British Government turned towards Europe in recent decades and certainly does not consider itself a junior party in a U S A led world power.
So I contend this power does not exist !
So who has played the role of the opposing King of the North? it is not hard to work out. In WW2 of course Nazi Germany gets the title. After that the identity shifts to the Soviet Powers who engaged in pushing" with the King of the South.
Interesting in Para 17
"The king of the north has supported the king of the south in one key endeavor; they “put in place the disgusting thing that causes desolation.” (Dan. 11:31) That “disgusting thing” is the United Nations."
It used to be said this was when the King of South set up the League of Nations in 1919.Have they realised that America never actually joined that League?
The article finishes with the question, who is the King of the North now?
Sssh... I will spill the beans, since I am not writing all this again next week.
it is.... RUSSIA !

J.W's and " but that is Pagan !".
by Phizzy inthere have been a number of threads touching on this before, leolaia for one, back in the day when we had many an erudite poster, showed the pagan origins of many things, including the passover , and by extension, the jw " memorial".. what prompted my thought on this was a conversation i had the other day with a young lady, never a jw, who said the jw stance on birthday celebrations, was groundless and cruel.. i thought later that jw's do a " pick and mix " as usual, as they do with so many other things, on what they condemn as "pagan" and what they accept and practice.. the institution of marriage itself is pagan, marriages were performed long before the bible was written, and long before the nation of israel was formed.
yet jw's perform marriages, use the veil, and the ring, all pagan.
the names of the days of the week, the months of the year, all pagan.. i guess you guys can think of many more things ?

"back in the day when we had many an erudite Poster"
Well said Phizzy. They are gone but not forgotten. ..Anyway....
Pagan roots. Yes, back in history everything was tied in to the beliefs of religion, so things of old probably had some pagan connection. Eg.
Wedding rings
The days of the week named after gods.
The months of the year too
Many great works of art, commissioned by "Babylon the Great" have " pagan" symbole., haloes ,crosses and things. Some depict scenes from ancient mythology.
Old songs may have origins in gospel , therefore false religion.
Do you remember the issue of the Mexican pinata which originated in something... The WTS said that since it had long lost any religious meaning, it was o k to have them. Pity they dont apply tbat thinking to other things.

Hiram built Solomon's temple.
by peacefulpete inother threads recently touched upon the temple description in the ot.
i've made comments to the effect that the temple designs mirrors that of other cults of the region.
additionally i wondered if the temple ever existed in the 8th-9th century at all, given the lack of archaeological evidence for it and the mythical characters and obvious embellishments in the story of it's construction.

Once again I start reading a thread before realising how old it is...There are some seriously missed members on here , Gumby and Leolaia in particular. I am glad that you are still around Pete to write these interesting things.

Sure I remember...those enormous “Pilot cases” were the prized possession of a a lot of swanky elders.. Personally I never had one..even as secretary with a lot of stuff I preferred to spread the load in two cases and walk balanced.
That is one thing that is properly consigned to history.

They Are Going To Start Clamping Down With Staying At Home - Local Needs + GB Update #4
by thedepressedsoul inmany of us have watched the gb #4 update.
most of us jumped for joy when they basically said that there will be no meeting in person for a long time to come.. one aspect we overlooked was how hard they hit home the "love of neighbor".
how this "love" is what makes a true christian and as a result our love for our neighbors will motivate us to stay at home.. well now they released a letter that is instructing all kh's to view this video during their local needs part.

Ah , come on .... Zoom meetings are easy to fudge. Sister Blues is committed to the faith but finds these meetings tedious. We tune by Zoom, but never with our microphone or camera on . It shows a blank square and her name only. Frequently she is doing something else and I certainly am. Last time I noticed several T shirts too among the others who showed themselves.
The idea of having to go back to the Hall is not looked forward too among the ones who I know.

Bringing Reproach on Jehovah's Name
by cofty inall my jw life i was reminded constantly about the importance of not bringing reproach on jehovah's name.
decisions on whether or not to disfellowship an individual often turned, not on the seriousness of the sin, but on whether the incident was public knowledge and had resulted in bad publicity for the congregation.
i recall a middle-aged lady being reported to the elders for shoplifting a sweet worth less than £1- and the elders' insistence that a judicial committee must be formed because the store manager and staff knew that she was a jw (i successfully argued that all she needed was support for her dreadful family life, but that's another story).

They say, in the Guardian
“Jehovah’s Witnesses have responded and will continue to respond directly to individual claims for redress in a caring, fair, and principled manner, taking into consideration the unique circumstances of each claim,” they said in a statement.
The five groups will be banned from receiving federal funding and could lose tax concessions, including charitable status.”

That final sentence is a cracker. Let’s hope
