They have always said one thing for public consumption and another for the internal hearers. Some Witnesses are more flexible on this issue, I know my family hold out a hope for me..... When you hear the GB speak though, it is clear . If you are outside at the end - - Goodbye!

Isn’t It A Materialistic, Even Selfish Hope
by BluesBrother inas witnesses we always looked forward to the new world but the talks were more about the incoming king and man’s freedom from oppression.
although we looked forward to the good things ,we recognised that initially things may be hard .
we would have to cope with physical work , and lack of many things we were used to today.

As Witnesses we always looked forward to the New World but the talks were more about the incoming king and man’s freedom from oppression. Although we looked forward to the good things ,we recognised that initially things may be hard . We would have to cope with physical work , and lack of many things we were used to today. We did not mind because it was “the Kingdom “!
The videos nowadays are very different.People sit about in shop bought clothes , living in grand houses and, in the recent offering “ Jehovah Guides Us In The Way Of Peace , I see an expensive sailing yacht , obviously manufactured in a boatyard . These things are available today, in this world, to those who ignore God and seek and gain enough money.
We used to have a name for this : materialism. We would criticise those who set their heart on such things as we focused on what we considered “spiritual things”. The modern Watchtower’s message panders to human’s inbuilt materialistic tendencies at the expense of the spiritual.
Selfish, why do I say that ? For millennia mankind has lived a normal life cycle. We are born, grow up , procreate , grow old and die . That leaves the world to the next generation who build on what has been done before. This has given countless people the opportunity to enjoy life and has thrown up a few geniuses who have benefited mankind greatly.
The Watchtower teaching changes all that . This one generation ,declared righteous, will sit on the earth forever. The gene pool stagnates with them and no new life is born . They deny anyone else the opportunity to enjoy what they have.
That is my thoughts anyway.

Insight on Scriptures p 132
“Beginning of ‘trampling.’ The ‘trampling’ on that kingdom of the dynasty of Davidic rulers did not begin with the Roman devastation of the city of Jerusalem in 70 C.E. It began centuries earlier with the Babylonian overthrow of that dynasty in 607 B.C.E. when Nebuchadnezzar destroyed Jerusalem and took captive the dethroned king Zedekiah and the land was left desolate“

What decade or era in human history do you like the most or would have liked to live during?
by Fisherman inin the us, the 60s and 70s was a great time to be alive except for getting drafted if you wanted to be that age.
they were music years, greatest movies, fun, simpler and enjoyable days—also except for the d&ugs.

I am glad I lived and was young in the 60s , great music and you could have a great time, if you hadn’t been a dub, mind you we still enjoyed ourselves.
In history it would all depend on your social standing and wealth. I love Victorian things but it would have been terrible to be poor

Not Reporting Child Abuse Should Be Prosecuted
by usualusername1 inanyone who works with children and does not report child sexual abuse should be prosecuted, the final report of a huge, seven-year inquiry has recommended.. this could be huge for elders in the uk.https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-63318342.
-
BluesBrother
Certainly the legal requirement to report must include religious leaders including JW Elders and their equivalent in other groups . It needs to be couched in the legal language that is watertight. A situation may not meet the threshold for JW judicial action but who knows what a criminal investigation might throw up?
It was good to see the exJW people interviewed on the BBC . The Beeb knew where to go straight away for child abuse comments.

WT Style Pacificism
by Sea Breeze inepisode 203 of netflix ... i am a killer looks at the murder of christopher chavez in texas.
christopher chavez was a 22 year old ministerial servant and a born-in son of an jw elder.
after a thursday night meeting and a quick bite to eat afterwards with friends at a local restaurant, he was kidnapped, taken to a gas station and forced to drive his killers around for hours while they were in the back seat.

I have always understood the WT advice to be as is stated in that quote above . Christians never should commit violence but if personally threatened Witnesses are perfectly free to fight back , even harm their assailant if they can . Nobody ever said that God would save you, He doesn’t. They are not pacifists, just neutral on national conflicts.
An old Cong Presiding Overseer of mine disturbed a young lad interfering with his car . He called him out , the lad raised a hand and they struggled…. then another lad joined in and our Overseer came off worse . He had his arm and hand bounced up for a week or more … Nobody criticised him , it seemed rather funny at the time.

was Judas there?
by enoughisenough infrom luke 22:14 .
so when the hour came, he reclined at the table along with the apostles.+ 15 and he said to them: “i have greatly desired to eat this passover with you before i suffer; 16 for i tell you, i will not eat it again until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of god.” 17 and accepting a cup, he gave thanks and said: “take this and pass it from one to the other among yourselves, 18 for i tell you, from now on, i will not drink again from the product of the vine until the kingdom of god comes.”+.
19 also, he took a loaf,+ gave thanks, broke it, and gave it to them, saying: “this means my body,+ which is to be given in your behalf.+ keep doing this in remembrance of me.”+ 20 also, he did the same with the cup after they had the evening meal, saying: “this cup means the new covenant+ by virtue of my blood,+ which is to be poured out in your behalf.+.

John 13 makes it clear that Judas left before the covenant was enacted. The others may not include that detail but that does not make them disagreeing . As far as I know John was there , at Jesus’ right hand , so he ought to know.

No funeral
by road to nowhere ini have run across another jw death where the final wishes are for no service.
3rd or 4th instance.
another wanted a celebration of life which the elders squelched as far as i know.
-
BluesBrother
I have known a couple of instances in recent times where there was no funeral as such. The family just handed the body to the undertaker to cremate alone. They still had a K/hall memorial meeting though, a little later.

The MODERN DAY tourist guide shooting themselves in the foot.
by Longlivetherenegades inthe tourist guide as obtained from the kingdom rule book chapter 5 paragraphs 1-6. the book states..... the spirit of the truth .
will guide you into all the truth.”.
the spirit is jesus’ means of teaching his followers whatever they need to know about god’s kingdom—right when they need to know it.. me: who are your tourist guide today?.
-
BluesBrother
So how does the believer know whether the teaching is really revealed by H/s or whether it is just the GB getting ahead of things?
it seems that they themselves don’t know when the Spirit is on them or it isn’t, I guess it all seems right at the time and only later proved wrong.
The safest thing is to assume it never is on them. And that is the conclusion that most of us have come to.

Was Jesus the Messiah circumcised ?
by smiddy3 inhas this question ever been raised before by jehovah`s witnesses?
and what`s the significance, if any ?.
-
BluesBrother
Someone called it “barbaric “ …really?
The Mayo Clinic site says this…
” Circumcision might have various health benefits, including:
- Easier hygiene. Circumcision makes it simpler to wash the penis. However, boys with uncircumcised penises can be taught to wash regularly beneath the foreskin.
- Decreased risk of urinary tract infections. The risk of urinary tract infections in males is low, but these infections are more common in uncircumcised males. Severe infections early in life can lead to kidney problems later.
- Decreased risk of sexually transmitted infections. Circumcised men might have a lower risk of certain sexually transmitted infections, including HIV. Still, safe sexual practices remain essential.
- Prevention of penile problems. Occasionally, the foreskin on an uncircumcised penis can be difficult or impossible to retract (phimosis). This can lead to inflammation of the foreskin or head of the penis.
- Decreased risk of penile cancer. Although cancer of the penis is rare, it's less common in circumcised men. In addition, cervical cancer is less common in the female sexual partners of circumcised men.”
