"I still believe what I was taught yes," I get the distinct feeling that you are unsure.
We are here for the same reason that you took the time and trouble to log in and create an identity, Because we need to share thoughts and many have suffered terrible emotional trauma .It is so re assurring to find out that there are others too that feel the same feelings and have had similar experiences.. No one else can really understand.
Stick around , read and learn. Just give an open mind to the information presented , ask questions and see if the answers can be found from the WTS.

Does God Hear JW Prayers?
by HomebutHiding inas a jw i never doubted there was ahearer of my prayers.
in fact, over the two plus decades that i was a jw, i know there were answers to specific petitions, and i felt strongly that my prayers to be a stronger, better person were heard and answered.
now, i no longer have anyone to whom i can address prayers, and i feel i wouldn't get a hearing anyway.

My thoughts for what they are worth.
We must seperate entirely the teachings of the WT from the God of the Bible. When one is inside the distinction is blurred so that we felt that "Our " prayers were more meaningful to God than those outside, unless they prayed for a witness to call and by co incidence they did call - then it was a miracle.
The Bible ,any translation you like, clearly describes a God who invites humans to pray to him, and allows Bibe writers to call him a "Hearer of prayer"
We cannot put limits on his ability or willingness to hear our prayers or anyone elses . It must be a personal matter. I believe that God is there , and hear and answer prayers if he is so minded to do so.

Will the ROCKS cry out for the JWs???
by LDH inthe km of november 1996 states:
"a failure to contribute enough to cover costs will ultimately restrict what the organization may otherwise be able to accomplish in furthering the worldwide work.
so wtf happened to their "rocks would cry out" theory?

Ida Eisenhower and Jehovah's Witnesses
by Kenneson inmarley cole in 1955 wrote "jehovah's witnesses the new world society," which includes a photocopy of a letter ida eisenhower wrote in 1943 to j.w.
lawson of long island, n.y. therein, she stated that she had been in the truth since 1896 and naomi engle who stayed with her was also a witness.
since she died the next year, mrs. eisenhower apparently died as a faithful jehovah's witness.

Marley Cole's book was around when I was young although I do not have it now.
It was my understanding that he wrote it as a non witness from an outside perspective, perhaps becoming one later

Lets just hope the poor girl gets better , or at least improves enough to objectively eview her faith.
A sad case all round . I would just love it if she were to come to the conclusion that the transfusions had been correctly given . Either way we wish her well.

Just found this thread today, thanks to all - hilarious reading , and so would the article be if it were not serious.
How come that elders are imperfect and we are sinners?
Seems to be beefing up control by the elders, ie; the Gov Body themselves. No doubt post NBC broadcast. I remember during the 80's when Ray Franz left and apostacy was the talk of the day, lots of article about unity and loyalty etc. .
As someone above said , they have a knack of starting an article about one thing ,,ie; same issue next article ... starts with Acts 2.11 "Speaking in tongues about the magnificent things of God." then flips into a quite nasty diatribe about the sloppy standards of dress today.. Youths must be on duty 24/7 and dress appropriately and fathers have to monitor with "Firm counsel"
I thought they had left all that behind in the 60's

Letter from society on donating blood
by TheStar inas i promised in this thread: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.asp?id=29619&site=3&page=1.
here are the scans of a letter from "the christian congregation of jehovah's witnesses" regarding a brother's inquiry about donating blood.
this letter is printed in greg stafford's new book "three dissertations on the teachings of jehovah's witnesses".. the scans are not that great but it was the best i could do.. .

A couple of thoughts:
"The use of blood fractions is neither sanctioned or discouraged" - of course they are sanctioned!..when talking with my family I tried to get them to give a conscience viewpoint on that . All they say is they would follow what is on the Blood Card, because they dont understand it anyway.
"Blood from many donors would be needed" They acknowlege the great debt J W 's owe to the many donors who are doing something that they will never do , so J Ws can benefit from their fractions
How are you going to "Make sure that the remaining bulk of the blood is discarded". In the UK it is all through the National Blood Transfusion Service and donated at community places. Are you going to ask to be able to take home the rest of your blood so you can pour it out in the garden??.
I think not.

Fire Walls and Sueing the Society
by voltaire ina few thoughts about the society's efforts to protect itself from litigation.. i attended the elder's seminar a few years back where we were instructed to write in our elder's manual a few extra instructions pertaining to filling out the society's disfellowshipping forms and other aspects related to judicial cases.
that was nothing terribly unusual.
we often wrote in clarifications and updates during meetings with the co. this time was a little different because we filled an entire page with seven(i think) specific instructions.

I also remember a large elders gathering at which we were given a list of things never to write on a disfellowship form
I wish I still had the Shepherding Book in which I wrote it, but of course they took it back off me.
