  Military Service Anyone?

  anyone here ever wanted or had the desire to serve in the military while you were a jw in good standing?

  would you do it now if you were younger and within the ages that they require for new recruits?.

  are you willing to give your life for your country and what you believe in?

  One issue that I have always seen clearly , and agreed with the Wt on is their attitude to the millitary.. I can nowadays be happy to listen the views of those of those who disagree with me but so far I have never seen anything to make me change me change my view. I do not want to be a non questioning arm of the politicians might . - I do not trust the politicians to make sound decisions that could cause me to contribute towards someones death.

  Two questions here.

  no to the first - yes to the second.

  Incidentally, I do not know whether the American public is aware of the depth of the feeling against the upcoming war with Iraq,here in the UK . National newspapers giving full spreads to opposite views and T V openly critical and claiming that there are ulterior motives behind it . So far the general public are not behind the government at all.

  It is interesting that a thread about a boxer who retired so long ago could bring this kind of response .

  I always respected him for being willing to give up his title rather than answer the millitary call up .

  there sounds like there may be many of us coming in from out of town (including me, ms. joannadandy and eyegirl .

  Rude Awakening?

  with so many people drifting or daing recently, as indicated by the sheparding call thread and the assembly demonstrations thread, i am wondering how the average jw is reacting.

  how do they view it?.

  usually when someone leaves the org the other members react with astonishment and shock.

  I would guess that at least half of the disfellowshipped that I knew came back, some 2 or 3 times!

  Most of the cases were for fornication ,and one or two for adultery. Once the passion of the affair had passed, a lot felt lonely and wanted to come back, even if just to be able to speak to their family.

  Mind you , I can think of several who really took up the "Truth" stronger than before and really made it their life after reinstatement

  They just have to see it for themselves. If they refuse to accept logical premises, well, then,

  Quite right Countrygirl ! I am getting tired of banging my head against a brick wall with family members who just refuse to consider that the Borg could be wrong. Every revelation , ie "Panorama" or the U N scandal is accepted as human error . "Whatever you say they know more than you" , I am told .

  It makes you want to give up , but I cannot.

  Talked to my dad Sunday morning

  to give you a little background info before i delve into my story.

  my step-dad and mom recently seperated, about a month ago now.

  my dad is taking this real hard because he really does love her and my mom seems to have gone off the deep end.

  May I add my warm congrats on your attitude to your dad , and sympathy to your poor mother (or was it step mother ?, sorry)

  The difficulty in breaking away reminds me of my own experience many years ago when I was 20ish . Old enough to be independant but having been raised in the Borg, totally unable to mix with "Worldy people" comfortably . At that time I did not know what I know now. I just felt unhappy with it all and wanted to break out.

  I tried hard. I joined a social club, and cultivated friendships at work - but I just did not fit in . I felt like a fish out of water.

  Eventually ,a few months later and out of boredom and nothing else I re joined the "Truth" . I went to a bigger congregation a little way away and it was a whole new beginning. Before long, the Witness mode of thinking kicked in again and - Wonderful ! "I had regained my spirituality"

  That was it for the next 25 years until I seriously questioned things again

  Should Christians Expect Divine Protection?

  this is one of the current topics at http://www.watchtower.org  .

  we are told that sometimes jehovah intervenes for his people and sometimes he doesn't.

  i'm wondering if this is a shift in thinking or whether jws have always believed this.

  what if?

  what if you were an alien and came to planet earth on a scientific mission to explore other planets .you have come a long way, as we know the closest star to earth is aproximately 1 light year away.

  your planet has known nothing but peace and science has been the main form of religion .what would you think when you arrived here and how would you deal with the discovery of the life forms on this planet?

  would you abandon all hope of establishing some sort of long term freindship with the so called intelligent life forms that exist here or would you try to communicate some sort of message you think might help the situation here?

  there have been a whole bunch of probing questions in new threads lately.

  people are encouraged to spill their guts out on the most sensitive of topics including jeopardizing their identities with questions about what they like on their pizzas.

  just call me old fashioned, but some of these polls look like information-gathering the wts would love to mine.

  You and me both . I believe the responsibility rest on us individually to act reponsibly in relation to our own circumstances. Those who are free to thumb their nose at the Borg may say whatever they wish about themselves. I hope that I have acted with discretion although sometimes I fear that I say more than is wise.

  I have said before that on a tape from a U. S. Bethel speaker, he dismissed counter arguments raised in a courtroom as "The stuff you can read on any apostate website".. so they know what goes on.

  Today Sucks!

  after 16 beautiful days off with my children, sleeping in late, actually making family breakfest and all the other wonderfully "mommy" things to do without rushing - i'm back at work (bluck!!!!

  ) and the kids are back to school so the rushing begins again.

  regardless of how people feel about christmas, i find that 2 week period of time my highlight of the entire year.
