Before cutting my hair my witness barber had to check with Bethel...really? Not a cult?

i was balding and grey so i asked my witness barber friend to "just shave it all off" many brothers were doing the comb over which looked friggin stupid.

but oh no in the 1990's this was rebellious he had to call a brother we knew at bethel to see if it was ok. we got his ok to go ahead but at the time i could help thinking about the no beard rule and how controlled and cultish we were..

Former elders did you ever ?

hi did any former elders ever suggest that bro & sis should go to the police?.

there was a group of sis with various health conditions and on medications had a gathering and drank a lot wine , one of the sister physically assaulted another sis , myself and a another elder were assigned to deal with it after hearing what happened i said to the sis she could contact the police the other elder a lot older gave me a dirty look , the sis said i trust you bro to deal with it .. i think that's why witnesses don't get the police involved because we have been convinced that we can trust the elders and the organisation , and to trust and have faith that god knows all the facts and can read hearts and will deal with it in his time scale and encouraged to leave it with him and not to bring reproach on his name..

Fortunately, all my time I never had a case that would merit Police involvement.

We were kept busy dealing with smokers , adulterers and fornicaters

Will Armageddon Survivors Be Able to Marry?

thirteen years ago you commented on an idea circulating among some jws prior to 1975, that there was a possibility that armageddon survivors might not be able to marry.. "these vows that honor god are used—not from the bible but the only ones sanctioned by the wts.. for as long as we both shall live together on earth according to god's marital arrangement.. when i was in my 20’s, many jws interpreted this to mean that at some point in the 'new system' marriage would end.

since this was shortly before 1975, many jws rushed to get married worried that they would never have the chance (and never have the chance to have sex.

Sorry I misread your question. We always had the hope of marriage after Armageddon, after all ,we expected to survive in those days. The possible “termination of the marriage arrangement “ was seen as a very future thing- like at the end of the 1000 years. At that time Earth would be comfortably full.

Looking back , what naive fools we were !

Nowadays they lean toward saying ‘yes’ , without committing themselves. I think a lot of widowed dubs cherish the hope.

Witnesses are certainly open to strange ideas and non mainstream things. I put it down to being taught to not trust doctors ,over the blood issue. Also since Commerce and Politics are "in the power of the wicked one" , why believe what they say?

"Don't you know that the discipline of the disfellowshipping arrangement is an expression of love to the sinner? Tough love maybe , but love nonetheless . That is true. The WTS is no different to other organizations.

I have served with 'Type A ' elders . First they have to be committed, of course, but their abilities mean that they are forgiven for not being kind and approachable. If AM3 was prepared to pioneer as a young man , you can see that he would have a glittering "Theocratic career" ahead of him.

Special meeting next month (February 2020)

it was announced today that we will have a special weekend meeting next month.

it will be 3 hours long and will include some streamed content.. no explanation was given as to what the meeting will be about, only that it will be exciting and we will not want to miss it..

if it is 3 hours worth, it sounds most like a Branch Visit to your governing Branch Office. The concluding part of that is a meeting for the Bethel family which is streamed to the congs.

They are a bit of a marathon for even the keenest and fittest

so a few things .... apparently it's superbowl 54, and also the centennial of the sport.

erm ... i'm not a mathematician, but aren't there 46 superbowls missing?.

americans claim that uk sport ("soccer", aka real football) is too low scoring.

it's a culture thing. Guys like me , and Simon, brought up to love marching to a cold, dilapidated Football Stadium to watch 22 men playing real football,with a round ball and without using hands.......We will never get it, and at my time of life I am not going to try.

The beautiful game reigns supreme all around the world. England's league is in great shape. My team are doing well. Let's leave the Yanks to their commercialised incomprehensible game...they are welcome to it
