Yes, I and my wife both are.
My case was much like yours. When I finished high school the year of the big A, my school counsellors felt that I had such a talent in a certain area that they took the step of finding me some scholarships at the two finest schools for that tlaent in the country at the time (University of Michigan & North Carolina State U. at Chapel Hill.). The brothers insisted that no true Christian would go to college and so I turned the scholarships down.
Fifteen years later I entered college anyway and let the disapproval of my fellow Dubs slide off my back like water off a duck. I had to intterupt that education for a few years, but I recently graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. So good work. I know how proud you feel. And good luck to those who are pursuing theirs! -

In Jesus name,,,amen!
by frankiespeakin ini find it hard to beleive that one needs a certain formula to follow in order to pray to god.
any formula you find got to be a human invention.
it is hard for me to imagine a god that is so petty that he won't answer a persons prayer unless they follow with the ending "in jesus name" come on that sounds crazy.

Jesus went to alot of trouble to dispel the image in what we call the Old Testament of God, the judgemental marionet who demands obedience to the nth degree of the letter of the law. He pointed out how David and his men ate showbread off the altar which was illicit to anyone but the priests without incurring God's wrath for instance. So God does not demand that we follow some formula like automatons in our worship of him.
It is appropriate to ask things in the name of his son, but I've never believed that he holds to a slavish use of that in prayer. -

A thought on Quotes and the copyright thing.
by Forscher ini downloaded and reviewed the contents of the zip file that was thoughtfully provided of the content of quotes' sight.
i am not a lawyer, however in college i did take a number of law courses, so i'll give you my take on the situation.
it looks to me like the wtbts did have quotes dead to rights on that one.

All the points are pretty good. Thanks for responding directly Quotes. I'd be very interested in seeing that C&d order myself, and I am sure the others would be as well. So, unless you see a copyright mark as well on that ;-) I am sure we'd appreciate it if you can post it when you get it. That is if it isn't so long-winded that it would give tunnel carpal syndrome posting it! LOL

It looks to me like the WTBTS did have Quotes dead to rights on that one. His problem was that he did not limit himself to excerpting the relevant quotes. In places he posted entire articles! That was a no, no. As I recall, the WTBTS used to include a warning in the instruction books that it sent out wiht the first cds that printing or reproducing whole articles was a copyright violation for which they reserved the right to prosecute. It may be that when he started out Quotes did it right since many of his quotations were confined to the relevant materials. But somewhere along the line he went a little overboard.
I would suggest that he go back and revise his pages so that he does not post whole articles and confine himself to only those words which make his point. Since the context of the quotes was inportant to him, he should comment on that content as an introduction to the quote. Then he should be able to go back online with his site, make his points, and the WTBTS legal department will not have a leg to stand on. In the mean time, if he can go public on the WTBTS's campaign of intimidation of opposing websites and get the media to pick up on it, then by all means do so! -

I just thought I'd add a thought here. When I began learning ancient greek, I had an interesting trnaslation exercise that brought 1Jhn.4:18 to my attention.
*** Rbi8 1 John 4:18 ***
18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love throws fear outside, because fear exercises a restraint. Indeed, he that is under fear has not been made perfect in love.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see why that verse is almost never commented on in the WTBTS literature sinct the whole system is biult on fear. Fear of Df'ng. Fear of being killed by God at the big A. And yet, the Apostle tells us that FEAR (more than likely of what men may do to us, not of things we should fear, such as the fear of injury if we stick our hand in a fire etc...) "exercises a restraint." That is, holds us back from doing what we know to be right because it may not be popular with certain folks. That phrase translates the greek prase "Kolasin exei" or "torment is having." Some translations say "fear hath punishment" (RV). The word Kolasis as I recall reffered specifically to torture. So that John was bringing to mind the way fear of the consequences of an action tortures us and thus "restrains" us (so that we see that the NWT is really paraphrasing this passage).
But the passage also tells us that the antidote to such fear is love. If we have been made perfect in love, and especially love for God, then we will do what is right out of that love and the consequences be damned! Love insulates us from the fear of man. -

144000 how can the numbers be right
by chuckyy init suddenly hit me the other day while i was reading about the early christian martyrs:.
if thousands upon thousands of early christians were martyred by romans, how could just 144000 be anointed, as all early christians were anointed.
this as well as the fact that there have been 10's of thousands of anointed in the last century or so.

Just my ten cents here. I have som contact with some Bible Students (the movement that Jehovah's Witnessess split off from), and when asked that question, they quote Matt. 22:14
"For many are invited, but few are chosen."
In other words, many have been invited through the years to be a part of the 144,000, but few actually make the grade. They believe that those who fail make up the "great crowd" mentioned at Rev.7:9,10 and go to heaven anwyway but with a lesser role than the bride. -

The literature as good or better than college level books? Well, when I think of all the blame American hegmony yahduh, yahduh, for all of Latin America's problems in my history of Latin America textbook and the radical left politics that were pushed in some of my other textbooks (the social science ones), he may have a point there!
By the way, my history professor, an Argentinian, apologized to us for his selection of a history book on Latin America. It had been recommended by a coleaugue of note as a good book. But in his opinion it was so full of radical left political tripe as to be almost useless (he really did say that !). :-) -

My Thomas : Why did Jesus not rebuke him ?
by Lampokey injw doctrine teaches that jesus was not god.i do not know if is doctrime , but i also get the idea that jws believe the bible to be completely and literally correct.. luke 18:19 : jesus asks a ruler "why do you call me good?
nobody is good , except one , god".. how , then , do jws explain john 20:28 , where thomas says "my lord and my god!".
if jesus was not god , he would certainly rebuke a disciple for blasphemy.so , why did he not set thomas straight ?

My read on that passage was that Thomas was using that expression much as we say "Oh my God!" when we are shocked or something. That expression under such circumstances is pretty much universal in all cultures and languages. Even the Soviets couldn't eliminate it entirely under their secular atheism.
