Are We Christ's Witnesses or Jehovah Witnesses?
by RevFrank inno matter what the watchtower says, the watchtower turns their followers away from the bible.. let's look at isaiah 43:10........(nwths)..."you are my witnesses is the utterance of jehovah..even my servant whom i have chosen, in order that you may know and have faith in me, and that you may understand that i am the same one.
before me there was no god formed, and after me there continued to be none....11>i am jehovah and besides me there is no savior.".
but don't stop there....there's more..in acts 1:8...it says..."but you will receive power when the holy spirit arrives upon you, and you will be witnesses of me both in jerusalem and in all judea and samaria and to the most distant part of the earth..".

As the title to a fairly famous book remarks, the Witnesses are captive to a concept. Simply put, they believe that Jesus appointed the Watchtower leadership as the head of God's house in 1918. Thus, by definition, they are God's mouthpiece and what they say has the force of scripture for the rank and file.

Fear of Apostates.
by jeeprube ini've been looking at other jw message boards today, and i was struck by the total fear they have of apostates.
i've been out long enough for it to surprise me.
these people live in actual dread of "evil apostates".

You have to remember that they are told that apostates are very persuasive with their lies. They are also taught that if they are persuaded by apostates and follow in their course, they will be subject to eternal death. That is a scary thought.

If You Were Satan, How Would You Destroy the Watchtower?
by metatron injehovah's witnesses have survived hitler, stalin, and third world dictators too numerous to count.
126 years of false expectations.
have failed to dissuade them.

Beards are evil, but do you know why?
by free2beme inas a witness, i knew several men who attempted to grow beards.
when they did, and attended meetings, it did not take long to be talked to by elders and told, "as spiritual men, they should not display an outward form of rebellion.
" why was this a form of rebellion?

Yes, I already knew about the Rutherford connection. I didn't know that there may have been a relaxation of the standard after his death. When I came, beards were definately verboten!
My wife talked me into growing a mustache, I remember that did cause a little stir. At the time, we were social lepers anyway, so what were they going to do? I got a few snide little comments. but that was about it.

What did you do with your literature when you left?
by ontarget inwhat did you do with your literature when you left?
i burned my literature except for the wt cd which i sold on ebay.
i did not want to just throw the literature away as i did not want the trash man to read it and become a witness.

Still got it. We are about to move and my wife wants me to thin it out a bit. I have alot of copies of books from the 30s, 40s, and 50s that I picked up cheap in second hand stores. Some of them are not in all that good a shape (deteriorating covers). She wants me to pick out the best copy of each and get rid of the rest.

Has my biological family stopped shunning me?????
by Elsewhere inone of my favorite movie quotes is from bill and teds excellent adventure: strange things are afoot at the circle k. (bill and ted said this after seeing themselves arrive from the future in a flying phone booth time machine.).
starting last week some very strange things have been happening.
first, on christmas day i got a phone call from my parents phone number.

I think you just found out why the WTBTS is so desperately trying to tighten its grip. It would appear that in some places the discipline in the congregations may be starting to come apart. That is about the only explanation I can come up with.

Did any of you head off to University after leaving the org
by yaddayadda inone of my biggest regrets is not getting a degree, due to the jw brain-washing against higher education.
i feel a strong sense of never having reached my academic potential and having been restricted in many ways by this.
i was a high achiever at high school + some teachers were bemused that i never went on to varsity.

I went to college while I was still in and told the busybodies to mind their own business. I finished my A.A. while in and finished my B.S. while I faded. Of course, College really had nothing to do with why I faded, it just provided the opportunity to fade.
