Das ist richtig Blondie!
Amish religion is just as controlling as the JW's, if not more so. It looks like the Swartzenrubers may me just exactly what the Governing Body aspires to. Legalism in the extreme.

Swartzentruber Amish Ordnung
by blondie insometimes i wonder, is there a religion with worse doctrines.
yes and no, while the rules about clothing and material possessions is more strict, much is very similar to the wts.. http://www.amishabuse.com/ordnung.htm.
the ordnung is not about scripture out of the new testament or the salvation of your soul, but it is about control.

JW botany
by Robert_V_Frazier inhttp://www.christiandiscussionforums.org/v/showthread.php?p=27481#poststop .
in which a gung-ho jw apologist tells us that an adult plant has different dna from that of the seed it grew from.. .
because grown-up plants don't look like big seeds, and the watchtower once quoted from an article in the world book encyclopedia mentioning "chemical changes" in a germinating seed!.

IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT.
by THE GLADIATOR inthree cheers for australia!
muslims who want to live under islamic sharia law were told on wednesday to get out of australia, as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.
a day after a group of mainstream muslim leaders pledged loyalty to australia at a special meeting with prime minister john howard, he and his ministers made it clear that extremists would face a crackdown.

We need to listen. The problem is that the PC crowd has the ear of the media! So their message is what we hear trumpeted day after day. Most folks here tend to agree with the sentiments expressed my the Aussies. But you wouldn't know that if you listen to ABC, NBC, CBS, and CNN. According to them, anyone who does agree with the Aussies is an extremist and out of touch with "mainstream values".
Most folks here are getting tired of that situation and are turning from the so called mainstream media. Major newspapers which push political correctness are losing revenue big time. The afore mentioned networks are losing viewers. Evertime things dear to the PC crowd comes to a vote, they lose. If only our politicoes would get the message, you'd see some changes. That would include insistance that immigrants learn our language and repsect our values. But I won't hold my breath. There is alot of money out there in the hands of kids who graduated from elite PC universities and were made ashamed of their own culture which is being steered toward helping PC extremism.

although it was a privately issued request, jwd news has obtained a copy of the formal request issued monday from one of watchtowers dissident factory workers.

Is there anyone at Bethel who knows Greek or Hebrew?
by VM44 infred franz was known to have some knowledge of the greek and hebrew languages, and made use of that knowledge when he worked on the new world translation of the holy scriptures.
but he died in 1992. is there anyone at bethel today who has a knowledge of these biblicl languages?.
it would be strange if a religious book publishing organization turned out to have no one at all who could read the bible in its original languages.. does anyone know what people are currently on the watchtower's bible translation committee, and if they know the languages?.

Good work Alan!
Franz's college transcript Fred Franz's college transcript shows that Franz took about 15 hrs. of Latin as well as the 21 hrs of Greek. That explains the extensive reliance on the Vulgate in the footnotes of the NWT. He was probably more comfortable with Latin than Koine since he had only 2 hrs. formal training in Koine and 15 in Latin.

XJWs and Christianity
by Shador innot sure if this is the right place for this.... just wondering about this.
it seems to me that most folks who leave "the truth" tend to go athiest or remain in some type of christianity.. anyone know of (or are) xjws who have gone a different route (i.e.
eastern religions, neo-pagan, wicca, etc.).

There are several on this forum who've done that!
I am not in that group. I had my fill of that in my pre-JW days. I did some hard-core occult, the sort that looks down upon the Wiccans as wimps. Anton LaVey used to do that. He oft said it was foolish to ask the help of the spirits unless one was willing to be in league with them. That was why there was no standing in pentagrams drawn on the floor for protection for folks like us.
I didn't much care for LaVey's method either. That was based on the medieval church-protest satanism that struck me as a little too showmanlike for mey tastes. I have a sibling who is still into that scene. These days he collects Gemora's, real ones, and is into Kabbalistic mysticism as well(not the fluff kind of Madonna). So I know enough to know that I don't want any part of that anymore.
I also absorbed a little Daoism in my martial arts days. Although my primary art was a Japanese style, it had Daoism as its spiritual base as opposed to Zen Buddhism. My secondary arts were from the more conventional Zen perspctive, and I got to know that well enough that when a college proffesor asked for an essay explanation of Archery from the Zen Buddhist perspective on a test; I answered it with one sentence and got full marks. So I am familiar enough with both to know that the answer is not there for me either.
As for those on this board who've gone that route, they'll be the ones to explain the why. I just know the why not in my case.

Glad to hear that!
Now for a little amusement! Because of a chronic problem I have, I tend to be a little anemic all the time. Hemoglobins of 13-14 are pretty much normal from my perspective. One day I got a call from a Doctor's office which ordered a wide panel of tests on my blood telling me to call my primary care provider's office immeadiately since I might need to be hospitalized right now! They wouldn't tell me why, all they would do is say that they'd already sent the test result to the office. Well, I called the office, and they hadn't heard a thing! so, they had me come in a few days later. When I got there, they told me that the the test showed a hemoglobin of 9! WTF!!!! My primary care provider, a nurse practitioner decided to do another test rather than send me to the hospital since, though I was admittedly tired all the time, I just didn't look like I was that critical. She did warn the wife that if she observed any unusual paleness or fatigue, to get me to the ER right away.
Well, the test came back. Although it was about 13.6, close, but no cigar as they say, it surely wasn't critical. So I asked to look at the original test results. Guess what? The doctor, and everybody else had marked and looked at the wrong number! They'd looked at my hemoglobin A1c, and that, by the way, was the highest result I've had on that test. My hemoglobin was about the same, 13.6 as the test done by the clinic I go to. Boy was I both relieved and pissed! You can guess which one the Nurse practitioner found out about (sits back and smiles at the memory)!
I almost ended up in the hospital for nothing! I hope that gives you a little chuckle. I am known for my warped sense of Humor!
Have a good one!

CO calls meeting to discuss association with my parents
by Stress Free ini'm so furious at the moment my keyboard is smoking whilst i'm typing this message.
i just got informed through one of my contacts that at the recent visit to my parents cong the visiting co brought the elders together to discusss with my father who is still an elder, to decide if he should be allowed to associate or even speak with me.
who in the hell do they think they are?

I'm sorry to hear about that as well. I am a fader as well. Fortunately, the only family members I have on the inside I'm not on all that good terms with it wouldn't matter any way since they already treat me as if I were the big bad sinner instead of them, I won't miss them. However, my wife's parents are a different matter since she doesn't want them to shun her. If we fade long enough, they'll treat her the same as they do her other sibling's who all faded decades ago. That despite the fact that one of those siblings has been very actively trying to get them to look at the facts about the organization. However, if she gets excommunicated before a certain amount of time passes, they'll shun her. So we are sticking with fading.
It looks like somebody is starting a witch-hunt. And I personally find it disgusting that the CO is pressuring your parents since you are not technically in the class that the WTBTS says must be shunned. Were it not for our uncertainty in the matter, I'd say to write the WTBTS straight and ask them just what is going on. I'd be curious as to their answer on how it is loving to demand that people shun the merely weak in faith! But since that could result in Elders on your doorstep looking for a reason to take official action against you, I will definately not recommend it!
I certainly hope your father is experienced enough to call the CO on the carpet about that one. I knew an elder who did that to a CO over something just as petty as that. He won!
