Did Russell ask that no publications be written after he died?
by ackack inthere is a debate brewing on wikipedia over whether russell's will stated that no new publications be made by the watchtower society, and if rutherford violated his will.. the relevant portion from his will reads:as the society has already pledged to me that it will publish no other periodicals, it shall also be required that the editorial committee shall write for or be connected with no other publications in any manner or degree.. .
what's your opinion?.

HI, welcome to the board. I have a couple of pages for you to look at to get an overall, try the first suggestion. As has been mentioned check out heaps of info on this place first. Everything they didn't want you to know and why!!
Someone said RUN!! Maybe, but it maybe a mistake to think that you could convert him to your way of thinking. It is sad that religion can interfere with true love, but it will in your case.
Best of luck to you.

Book Study Parties...New Trend ???
by Poztate in.
truthseeker just posted about the wt congregations discouraging large social gathering or parties.. in the last little while my wife has gone to a few "book study parties" and has commented that other book studies were doing the same.. it seemed a little strange to me that this was happening as most of her congregation seems cold and distant at the best of times.. i wonder if it is a new "program" started by the wt to hype up the old "brotherly love" thing.has anybody heard or seen this to be happening lately if you are still close enough to know?

When we were going the custom was once a month to have a supper night after the "book" study. When it was at our house it got to be a huge drag. Take us hours to clean up sometimes as people thought they had the run of our whole house. Most seemed to enjoy it and at the last BS [book study] that we were in the sister would almost get offended if you didn't stay. This whole supper thing has been going on for years here.

1999 new light on voting?
by under_believer inso it was just brought to my attention that the nov 1, 1999 watchtower, while still strongly discouraging voting, says:.
*** w99 11/1 p. 28 questions from readers ***.
as to whether they will personally vote for someone running in an election, each one of jehovahs witnesses makes a decision based on his bible-trained conscience and an understanding of his responsibility to god and to the state.

I think that it is still mentioned in the elders almanac that voting is a compromise of one's neutrality. Didn't stop us though.

Barbara, my wife and I read this short biography yesterday and we are IN AWE of the wonderful work that you have done. I bet you wished you had run the photocopiers at Bethel out of ink!!
Thank you and Joe so very much from the depths of our heart.
Bill too for all his effort to help so many. -

What was the "last drop" which made you to leave JW organization?
by Lehtiveli inthis is a littlebit of quiz but still worth of talking.
so, what was the last thing which made you think that jw's are not "the truth"?
i'm trying to collect things, which are crucial points for jw beliefs so i can write something about all of those things.

I was at the book study and the conductor spoke about the apostate liar that were on a TV program about the pedophile/child abuse in the JW's. He said they were liars and that we dont need to watch those kinds of shows to be able to defend your faith. This comment was supported by the comments of others, until he looked at me and asked me straight: "That's right isn't it?"
Well, I said it isn't right, he has no right to tell people not to watch the show. I said that these people are not liars, they are victims. He then said that it isn't the societies policies that are doing this to them, I had to tell him in front of them all that it is their policies that are hurting these victims!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I then had to leave as I could not in all good conscience sit there and be a part of that. Havne't been back. -

We have attended two engagement parties that were non-JW affairs. We wouldn't have before. We enjoyed them, although we did not know too many people, but you get the opportunity to enhance your "social skills' or even get to develop them.
We also allowed our two children to have some friends over for their own birthdays, mild affairs, but fun.
So we are learning.
