I feel for you. I had the deviated septum repair done a number of years ago - my sister had polyps removed so she gave me a play by play of pain so I knew what to expect. I spent 3 days in the hospital - and it was not good! A scary feeling not being able to breathe - you have the packing taped up into your nose so you try to breathe through the mouth and that hurts because it dry and your throat is swollen from the tubing. I was sick for the first few days and starving so I tried to eat some spaghetti on day 2 - not a good idea since it made me sick to my stomach which in turn made my cavities bleed and then I had to have some packing and tape adjustment...I passed on the sleeping pill at night and the pain med the first day but screamed for them after that. The worst part for me wasnt' have the tubing removed - it was getting it scraped a week after..I never felt such incredible pain - was off work 3 weeks but boy was it great to breathe!!!! BTW - this is samswife posting..

Nasal Surgery
by Alana ini had a septoplasty, turbinate shaving, & removal of a nasal bone spur this last monday.
i almost posted that i was going to have a procedure and ask that you all keep me in your thoughts.....but, thought that compared to what some here are going through, that this would be nothing at all.
has anyone here had similar surgery?

All Elders Aren't Bad
by sammielee24 ini've read posts from time to time where it is obvious that people have been treated badly by either a jc or by individual elder themselves while in the society.
i can honestly say that in all my years as an elder, i have never seen this side.
most elders that i have known are committed, honest and fair minded men, who believe in what they are doing and have complete and utter faith in the organization.

Interesting reading all of the posts here. I can't say that I disagree with what anyone is saying. I understand what is being said and why. As any of you who have been JW's know - it's often said the 'Jehovah is allowing it' & 'if I can't do anything about it, then Jesus certainly can and he will in due time'. Haven't we often heard and believed that it is a 'perfect organization run by imperfect men'?
It is easy to recognize the destruction and judgement when you are outside, but while you are in the organization and you believe in all that it is, I suppose it is easy to salve one's conscience by using those simple phrases. That is why it is so easy for millions of followers still in this cult to ignore the lies and destroy the people around them. Everyone believes. If we go so far as to lay blame (which I'm not doing but just moving on in a circular thought pattern), then think of it this way. If every publisher were to ignore shunning and refuse to follow the rules around disfellowshipping, then there would be no disfellowshipping because there would be no point to it. The GB sets the rules for disfellowshipping, the Elders enforce those rules, the publishers bow to the discipline. If the GB set the rules, and the Elders tried to enforce them but the publishers refuse to follow them then what? So it goes round and round - we as believers believe, we follow, we allow - and it happens at every level.
I'm not justifying anything or defending anyone for their destructive actions. Sitting by quietly at any level is wrong. I agree. In trying to examine the cult methodology in manipulating how we think and why we act the way we do - it is simply interesting to examine all action from the top down.

The New "In-Phrase" - with greediness
by stillajwexelder infrom the elders school it appears as if the new phrase on everybodies lips is "with greediness" have i got this correct?

it-1 pp. 1005-1006 Greed ***
So with the ability to use 'greediness' as a reason for disfellowshipping I take it the list of offences can include:Greed can manifest itself in love of money, desire for power or gain, or voraciousness for food and drink, sex, or other material things. The Scriptures warn Christians against this degrading trait and command that they should avoid association with anyone calling himself a Christian "brother" who practices greediness. (1Co 5:9-11) Greedy persons are classed with fornicators, idolaters, adulterers, men kept for unnatural purposes, thieves, drunkards, revilers, and extortioners, and indeed, greedy persons generally practice some of these things. If an individual does not turn away from his greediness, he will not inherit the Kingdom of God.—1Co 6:9, 10.
- money ( who determines how much is greedy?) including pensions
- any managerial employment or education at college etc., since either of those are most clearly for financial gain and power
- obesity, gluttony (might there be spies at the buffet table?- food is difficult to prove so might they use what they see to determine the offence)
- material possessions like having a boat, more than one vehicle, a cottage, anything that might be used for leisure activity since you should have no leisure time and you should have no money for those things regardless...

I can't speak for what happened in your husbands congregation or how the elders behaved. I can only say that I have seen instances where the strongest personality won out and the meek and mild men retreated. I'm not saying any of that is right, but it doesn't mean all elders are bad men regardless. I can't justify the actions of any bad elder. I can only say that most are not unkind. As for a JC - the information that is gleaned on these committees is not shared with all of the elders so in some of those cases, one elder may not be aware of what is taking place with another. I question at times the age of some appointed elders but that's just a personal point of view.

I've read posts from time to time where it is obvious that people have been treated badly by either a JC or by individual Elder themselves while in the society. I'm sorry for that. I can honestly say that in all my years as an elder, I have never seen this side. Most elders that I have known are committed, honest and fair minded men, who believe in what they are doing and have complete and utter faith in the organization. These are humble men who no more like to sit before any person and ask them intimate questions, than any other person would, but they are told what to ask so they do. Year after year elders are told they are being too lenient and year after year they are given more direction on the questions to ask and how to ask them. Why do you think that is? Perhaps because most simply don't want to be involved in the sort of intimate questioning that is expected of them so they are seen as lenient. I'm not defending all Elders obviously, I guess I just wanted it known that for the most part Elders work very hard and they try to fulfill the expectations required of the position. Many burn out and most get little thanks from anyone for their work. So please remember that all elders aren't bad, there are many good, kind men who truly believe in what they are doing and are simply misled in their life's work.

Definition of Porn re Disfellowshipping
by sammielee24 inquestion.
given the bend toward the society's possible df'ing of viewing porn..and given the fact that the society has in the past insisted that 'one act of phone sex constitutes practice and thus is grounds for df'ing' does this mean that if someone only one time views whatever is deemed as porn they will be df'd?
what is the society's definition of porn?

Hey Poz that's pretty good........wonder how many Elders and Brothers have intimate knowledge of Jenna J...

Hmmmm.....well, I suppose that greediness would mean 'more than one time'.....so in essence anyone doing anything more than one time that is on the list of things to avoid would or could expect to be df'd. It seems to me that the use of the word practice is simply being replaced with the word greediness. .

Question. I believe the Society says that it is 'anything that arouses one sexually'. If that's the case - those Dallas cheerleaders look mighty fine to a lot of people don't they? Is all that bouncing around in skimpy gear too provocative for a Witness to watch? Will they ban all Witnesses from watching football because they might get turned on? Will they consider it improper and put a halt to all JW's watching any sports event because it might lead to lustful thoughts? After all - you should recall the Janet Jackson fiasco....tsk, tsk...Also, in reviewing the previous posts about the push to forgo education and avoid the internet - I'm waiting for the time when the rules change to use of the internet only being allowed for job related activity. No personal use allowed. Anyway..I'm stuffed with turkey and potatoes, getting ready to snarffle some pie and having a great time watching the Dallas/Denver game...

Attention: Former Elders
by MsMcDucket inmy children are shunning me because the dubs told them too.
the scriptural reason they gave my children is that you're supposed to love jehovah above all else.
and the one about not speaking to a man who has turned from the road of righteousness (sp?)..
-
sammielee24
I also didn't interfere. The rules are - if the children and parents are living in the same household, then you can have limited association with them (you just can't have spiritual discussions) but if the children are out of the house or the parents/children don't live together, then you should have no association with them other than necessary family business. Depending on the family, then that term itself 'family business' is either intepreted loosely or rigidly. In my case, my family interprets rigidly and has decided that I am deceased, therefore, there will never be any family business......and yes, now it's much easier to see how scriptures used are taken out of context or re-invented to suit the WT needs.

Being Rich or Poor in the Org, did it make a difference?
by JH in.
the witnesses will say that they treat everyone alike, no matter what color they are, or what nationality they are or even how rich or poor a person is.
being rich or poor in the org, did it make a difference somewhere?.
-
sammielee24
In my own experience there was no difference and I didn't notice any with one exception and that is that anyone in a circuit organization position tended to be wealthy. Although some of the elders were obviously comfortable financially, most that I knew were simply hard working, average men who didn't drive new cars, take exotic vacations or wear Armani.
