Growing up we had simple Christmas traditions like my mother filling our stockings and laying them across the foot of our bed while we slept. When we awoke on Christmas day we would sit and spend that bit of time emptying our stockings. We also had hot salmon pie every Christmas morning without fail and by mid morning the house was packed with all the relatives making their way merrily to each others houses for a Christmas visit and eggnog cheer. sammieswife.

Some Christian Christmas Family Traditions
by truthsearcher ini don't know if there are any out there who may be wanting to celebrate christmas this year from a christian perspective.
i thought i would share a few ways that as a family, we have tried to make "family traditions" that take the focus off of materialism and on to the celebration of the birth of christ.
you may have heard of these before.... on christmas eve, we have shepherd's pie for supper and think of the shepherds who received the good news out in the fields.

Don't Quite Know What To Make of This
by XJW4EVR ini had my kids last weekend, and they seemed hapy, and content.
i called a couple of times earlier this week as usual, to see how they are doing, and got the answering machine.
no mystery there.

Someone from Oregon "ME" - View on this James Kim event
by free2beme ini spent last saturday about 10 miles out of grants pass bring some supplies to a friend who was in the search and rescue for james kim, and talking with people who were looking for him.
being a long time resident of oregon, i can tell you exactly where he was, as i have been down that road many many times.
it is a remote location, at best, and locals mainly use it for hunting a fishing access, or maybe a chance to go motorcycle riding through the mountains.

I just finished reading more in the paper. It seems that had Mr Kim walked north for just over a mile, he would have reached a lodge, which while empty would have provided a rescue point and shelter. He went the other way. I don't believe the lodge was showing up on his map. Someone made a point on the radio today - a good point and it defines how I feel about it. He may not be a hero in commonly understood terms, but he made a heroic effort to save his family. sammieswife.

I think people get lost for all sorts of reasons - weather conditions, poor directions, out of date mapping, inattention and so on. When I was watching the news during the search and rescue operations, one of the patrollers was on the road where the turn off was and he said at that time, that the cut off to the main road was easy to miss. I think it's presumptuous for us to think at this time, that he just wanted a little adventure - it could have been a simple case of taking a wrong turn in bad weather. Perhaps we might get too comfortable with Onstar and cell phones and think we can get out of any situation we find ourselves in because we are always connected technologically. My heart goes out to the family - a husband, father, son and friend is gone. From the photo's I've seen, the car looks like it was still sitting on the road - I have wondered the same thing - why didn't he stay on the road instead of setting out across country? My understanding is that he and his wife discussed his plan in great detail so eventually I'm sure the reasons why they made the decisions they did will all come out. sammieswife.

I find this quite interesting Atlantis and thanks for posting it.
The witnesses by virtue of their disfellowshipping procedures and reinstatement processes are disruptive, intrusive, prejudicial and destructive on all levels. I can think of any number of cases where a df'd person is forced to relive the whole issue of their (alleged) wrongdoing and confess over and again in order to be judged as truly repentant and reinstated. Some of these 'sins' can be extremely embarassing and stressful to the person and there is no purpose served in having to rehash details of the past. Yet they insist. I'm sure we all know of the spy tactics that are used to ferret out the unclean from the congregation as well - what more stress can be added to a person when realizing that it's not Jehovah that's watching all you do but the 'friends' that sit beside you at the meetings? Maybe this will open the door a little for every person thats been df'd and had their issues discussed with other elders, lost their job because of the treatment, lost their families on direction from the society - sammieswife.

Starbucks
by Sailor Ripley ini can't help it... i love the freakin' place!.
i know it's insanely expensive, has long lines and possibly, no, actually is quite obnoxious.
i don't care.

I'm a Timmie's fan all the way but I do drink Starbucks. I find the taste too heavy (I drink my coffee black) so I always ask the counter staff to cut it with water and it makes it much more drinkable. Coffee - one of life's little pleasures......sammieswife.

Question about divorce laws--not sure if this is the right board

this person is unhappy about the way they were treated and continue to be treated.

Even if you tell the ex, that the person is leaving the country, I still don't think there is anything that can be done to stop them. That person is a free person and until they committ a crime there is no reason to stop them. While you said that they are upset over the perceived unfairness of the child support and property division, you haven't said that they told you definitively that they are going to stop payment of their child support. Payment of child support can be accomplished from anywhere in the world. The health insurance is another issue - I would imagine that if a person were unemployed for any number of reasons and without any insurance, that the courts would review the prior decision. Do I think a person running away from the parental responsibilities is right? No. sammieswife.

I would hesitate to get involved in these domestic pulls - everyone seems to have a side and they claim their side is the right one. But thats just me. I don't believe anyone is legally obligated to tell their ex spouse where they choose to live - once divorced, their only legal obligations are ones as set out by the courts. He or she may decide to continue child support from wherever they end up living. If they don't, then the ex will have to track them down and take them back to court.
I've seen a lot of ugliness in people rise to the top in a divorce situation..and to me, while it's wonderful to believe the father or mother physically being in close proximity to the child would provide love and security for the child, that's often just a wish. How the parents act toward one another, how they respect one another and how they resolve conflict with one another even after divorce, is to me the greatest factor in how children come through family division. sammieswife.
