ok this one is 2 fold..... tonight i was chatting to my ex on the internet and despite 5 years elapsing, he wants to go out for a beer.
he was a creep at the time we split, good looking and all the rest, but prone to violent outbursts and had this knack of making me think i didn't need any other friends (i gradually dropped them all) whilst all the time becoming more controlling........it messed up my head at the time.
(like a dumb twat i even gave him all my visa cards as he said he'd be better at managing "our" money) apparently he is now a changed person, and i am too, no longer as gullible as i once was.
Hey it works for Will and Grace..

hello all, i've been reading your site for a couple of years now, and have found, for the most part, it to be very helpful.
i must say, at first i was very "scared" at what i might find, but contrary to what i grew up learning, there is a "wealth" of information outside of the watchtower organization.
i haven't attended meetings for about two years now, and like many i've read about, have spent many hours researching, telling myself "i'm not wrong for searching", and doing more research.
The shorter guy with the hair in the suit in this video is how I picture scholar everytime I try to read one of his posts.

These people are lunatics. I wasn't allowed to have blond highlights, buying a two door car was 'frowned upon', couldn't say the word 'bugger', couldn't listen to music with heavy guitars or an aggressive beat (possibly demonic, having the 'spirit of the world'). Couldn't be myself.

imagine trying to prove to someone that firmly believes in leprechauns that they simply don't exist.
where do you start?
an excellent saying i have heard is "extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.
How can you prove there's no toothfairy? It's impossible.
I think the best way to get a dub out is to make them realize they are responsible for being a part of an organization that is bloodguilty, that they in effect become bloodguilty by association. This is the biggest weak spot in the dub armor of ignorance. Being 'bloodguilty' is the worst thing you could possibly be in dubland. Well, its really the worst thing you could be anyway IMO.

:This from the same group that read a hotdog package, saw the ingredient "erythorbate", pronounced it "earth-uh-bait" and concluded that hot dogs contained worms.
OMG I am laughing so hard my sides hurt
our witness family was obsessed with demonism.. at a very early age, i was introduced to strange stories of demonism.
a brother in the congregation had brought home a souvenier doll from a tropical island as a gift for his daughter.
the daughter would talk about how the doll would come to life, but the stories were dismissed and attributed to the child's imagination.
This thread is hilarious. Reminds me of all the wack jobs in my old hall that were always having 'demon attacks'. This one loser would talk about it every time I saw him. I did'nt believe a word of any of it, even then. If I had a quarter for every floating cd or jittering utensil story I heard I would be a millionaire.
The most retarded story though by far is the story of the "Divine Warning Memorial". A few old freinds of mine said that they had gone to a memorial about fifteen years ago, and the speaker was known to have been starting 'divisions' in the congregation. Half way through his memorial speach the lights flickered and went out for maybe five seconds. A month later the speaker was disfellowshipped as an 'apostate'. According to every witness at the mem, this flickering was a divine warning from Jah to watch out for this evil man.
I asked about the weather conditions that night. They said it was pouring. I said "Don't you think it could have been just a brownout". They conceded that it could have been but said that it was too much of a coincidence that a brownout would happen during a memorial. I asked if any surrounding businesses or houses lost power at all. Indeed they had. I could not believe how stupid of an conversation this was becoming. I said "Why do you think God would flicker lights at a memorial but still allow horrible things to happen to people." They said that "Time and unforseen occurence affects us all." It just went on and on. The ignorance is astounding.

i noticed that everytime i did a search for jw info (various topics) this site has always come up.
so after lurking and reading for 6+ months, i've decided to actually sign up and maybe even post from time to time.
i'm mia, stubborn study of a very patient jw girl, wife of an anti-jw man and mother of 2 young children.

i've heard this said by a few ex-witnesses in my three years away from the organization, and have sometimes said it myself.
sometimes it is said in the context of, "i'd like to move on, but i just can't stop thinking about them.
could it not be that one of the reasons ex-jws "can't stop thinking about" the organization -- and their past involvement with it -- is that they daily log onto this site, read about the society and talk about them?
You make a good point Brad. I've been thinking about just taking a month or so break from the boards too. I have made a lot of good friends on here, I think I'm more interested in them then just sh*t talking dubs. Also I like to help out newbs, as little as I can. There ARE people on here though that are invaluble to this board and it would be very sad to see them leave. Taking extended breaks from it does seem healthy though in the long run.
