  Why did you chose to join a cult?

  many of us here were born into the jw cult and so had no real choice in life until we were much older.. however, those of you who actually chose to join the cult and be a jw, can you explain 'why' you wanted to believe 'the troof' that they claimed to have.

  didn't it appear too good to be true?.

  why would you want to put those kinds of restraints on your life and your mind?

  They are selling a paradise earth where nobody dies or has any pain. Its a nice package, very appealing. Unfortunately its bullshit. The people they draw in don't understand cults or how to really think critically.

  jehovah's witnesses as an organization have never covered up such a thing, and that is a bunch of ridiculous crap.

  maybe you were molested, but you probably liked it.

  anyone that does such a thing is removed from the congregation.

  JWs and breastfeeding past infancy

  my jw mother breastfed my sibs so long they remember it.

  one she stopped feeding when she went to kingergarten; i kid you not.

  my mother justified it by saying moses' mother breastfed him until whatever age and the bible encourages it.

  I knew a JW woman that breast fed her son up to the age of 15. He would come home from school and practically beg for it until she finally gave in and let him have at 'er.

  Did losing your religion send you into/exacerbate depression?

  i think most of us here agree that our past belief in the jw organization as being god's sole chosen people was delusional on our part.

  for myself, when i lost that delusion (fairly abruptly too), i came out of a long period of depression immediately.

  while i was incredibly angry at having been decieved, i can't say that that anger translated into any other negatives, in fact, overall, i think my general level of anger, even at elders/the gb/etc subsided, as i now understood why they do what they do even better than they themselves understand it.

  Sounds like you might be demonized James.

  I couldn't comment or pray either for about the past five years either, James. Everytime I tried to I felt like such a phony that I physically could not do it. The words they wanted me to believe sounded so stupid to me I just couldn't make myself spit them out.

  On a POSITIVE note ...

  i have felt that this site is therapeutic for me, in that i can give voice to feelings that i have heretofore had to keep inside.

  i also enjoy reading other's stories and learning that i am not alone.

  although, many of us feel that we have wasted our lives on wt, there may also be a very positive side.
