I am amazed and pleasantly surprised. Some of the poems on here are really good. You go, guys and girls!
As mentioned in the above post, I started up a poetry site, just a few weeks ago, and would love to see some of you share your words with other poets. My poetry site has a core of 6 experienced poets who help others with their writing. We mostly concentrate on formal poetry (ballades, sonnets, metric verse etc..), but also do free verse.
My first book of poetry will be published in 2006, it is a collection of my poems which have been published over the past year by Parker productions intl.

Of Silhouettes And Diadems - Crown of Petrarchn sonnets.

His restless spirit mirrors eagle’s flight,
a trace of spills and slopes beyond the nest.
He follows sunsets over lofty crests,
with word-strung bribes to bait the fading light,
but armadillos stir and claim the night.
Two callused hands exhibit marks of test,
rough journeys wind ‘round armistice and quest;
each cobbled path sustains this stalwart knight.
Lone days lie grooved by tremors of his stride,
thin moss will tell he’s paused too many times
to glance at ruined bulwarks mortals made.
He’s found declining ancient stone and cried,
a past is woven inside briar’s climb;
adorned with carmine roses, epics fade.

their fragrance slips between his cradled hands
and nestles deep beneath the timberland.
Tall chestnuts patch the trails ahead with shade,
a blemished carpet routing his crusade
in arches only knights can understand.
Faint sunrays kindle soil in clustered strands,
and sparkling walkways open toward the glade.
The marble angels wait in single queue,
they watch his wary pace confirming doubt;
he walks across the pansy-coated squares-
a tranquil scene of yellow hugging blue.
While pleas insist to soar beyond the clouds,
far heavens hold his citadel of prayer.

in destined winds that twirl effulgent skies;
a peaceful glade awaits, dismissing whys.
Tall brambles sway to ease his view- she’s there,
her smiles dapple blush on timid stares.
He learns from tiny lines around her eyes
that life engraved a breach of countless sighs,
though slender fingers sealed the seams with care.
Between ascending eglantines she sits,
resplendent trestles wreath her agate throne
while flowers drip ambrosia on the ground.
Her voice descends through hedge’s thrifty slits,
vibrations dwell in pores of leaves and stone;
soft welcome frames the silence all around.

no brush can paint a picture of this place
for colors never match the tints of grace.
She talks about the seasons- green to brown-
how time, enmeshed in nature’s slipping gowns,
will birth relentless hardships mortals face.
As answers drift like clement stars in space,
she gently holds her knight till twilight frowns.
On brittle burlap sheets the night has strewn,
two silhouettes succumb to passion’s yearn
in tender promenades of breath on skin.
Forever seeks the hand that crafted moons
while moments sneak between surrounding fern;
they tempt the dawn but keep their stars within.

two pilgrims tracing paths of fate below.
‘My princess- day we’ve conquered, night we’ve been,
in firmaments our souls connect as kin.’
‘Please kneel and touch the poppy seeds I sow,
as both we shall return to scarlet glow;
may footprints join when winter’s armor thins.’
‘My knight, walk safely through tomorrow’s whims,
recall celestial gifts that bear my name;
assume the robe of faith, exalting kings.’
‘When nature molds its vernal chords to hymns,
the sounds will tremble memories we claim
in blossom’s dance around the fairy rings.’

Those words have gilded every trail of need,
while star-embroidered nights could only plead
for moonlit strips of bark announcing spring.
New skies erase the snowflakes winter brings,
each flower reaches light beyond its seed.
Among forget-me-nots and sprouting weeds,
her grave is flanked by angel’s marble wings.
A diadem- such gentle smile of pearls-
pours crescent sheen upon this peaceful tomb
where desiccated orchids kiss the gray.
Too soon to watch red poppy buds unfurl,
her journey folded inside early bloom;
the princess added grace to God’s bouquet.

but earthly reminiscence still adheres
to tender rains that mark the glade with tears.
A knight bends down before her stone and prays;
in elegies that paint her lustrous days,
he softly cradles words she’ll never hear.
Each wind that scatters warmth will bring her near,
and breathe her name when firmaments delay.
Her banter ruffled boughs in forest’s core;
still holding joy these winsome laughs would send,
the trees shed crystal leaves, dispersing light.
An opus penetrates from distant shores,
to seal her epitaph- ‘for you, dear friend.’

matthew 24:7 for nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be food shortages and earthquakes in one place after another.. matthew 24:34 truly i say to you that this generation will by no means pass away until all these things occur.. .

The original Bible Students actually believed that Jesus returned invisibly in 1874. Today Jehovah's Witnesses teach that the invisible presence began in 1914.
As to the writers of the New Testament, they certainly believed that Christ would return in their own time. But they were mistaken. Faced with his own death, even the Apostle Paul, had to re-consider the notion of the imminent second coming. See 2 Thess. 2 and 2 Cor. 5:6-10

Okay, thank you all for taking the time to reply. The replies have been very helpful so far.
So let's say that 'this generation' refers to the generation alive during the time when Jesus was on earth.
(pennycandy) I agree with the others. There is nothing in the Bible to indicate these scriptures have any relevance to our day, specifically to the 1914 generation.
If we don't consider that there might be a future fulfillment, then it does make perfect sense. Jesus looked at the temple and said that no stone would be left upon the other. The temple was destroyed during 'that generation'. But now we do have a problem, when we think about that some more....
(Alan F) I think that the bottom line, fairchild, is that the things the NT records Jesus as saying about "the generation" are obviously applicable only to the people Jesus directly addressed, and that many of the things that Jesus expected simply did not happen. Many Christians know this perfectly well, and so, like the JWs, rationalize the failure by claiming that, because not everything Jesus said would occur occured in the 1st century, there must be a further and greater future fulfillment. Such rationalizations are common when prophecy fails
How on earth can it be that many of the things that Jesus expected did not happen?? This just doesn't make sense to me. So, if 'this generation' ONLY entailed the generation living in Jesus' time, this means that we HAVE to conclude that Jesus was wrong, and that some of the things he expected didn't happen. Since it seems totally unlikey that Jesus could have been wrong, don't we have to conclude then that there should indeed be a greater future fulfillment?
Matthew 24:3 confuses me. While he was sitting upon the mount of olives, the disciples approached him privately, saying: "Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your presence and of the conclusion of the system of things?"
According to that question, His presence and the conclusion of the system of things are tied together. Note that Jesus only gave one answer. He didn't say THIS will be the sign of my presence, and THAT will be the sign of the conclusion of this system of things. So, since He answered both questions with ONE answer, doesn't that mean that He considered His presence as well as the conclusion of the system of things to occur somewhat together, in the same period of time? That takes me right back to where I started. If 'this generation' referred to the generation that was living back in His day, then the conclusion of the system of things did not occur as He had said it would, which again, does not make sense.
And then, where does Matthew 24:14 fit in?
I am SO lost.

I recently wrote a tribute to Anne Frank. Before starting to write it, I did some research regarding her background and the holocaust. I made it through two evenings of reading up on the holocaust subject. The third evening I started crying and couldn't stop. I hardly ever cry.

How does God communicate with us?

today, there are no prophets, angels don't show up anymore, and jesus isn't there to speak to us.. we can talk to god through prayer, but how does god talk to us?.
so, other than the bible which is pretty outdated, how can god communicate with humans?

So, other than the bible which is pretty outdated, how can God communicate with humans?
Over and over again, I have asked myself the same questions. (With the exception that I don't consider the bible outdated). Then I think about a painter who goes to the same place every day in order to paint a certain landscape. Once the painting has been completed, he moves on to paint other things. The people in the village will wonder... where did he go? Why don't we see him anymore? They don't see him anymore because he did what he wanted to do, and once his task was fulfilled, there was no more need to be there.
Some might know the story about the man who asked God to touch him, but he swatted away the butterfly who sat on his shoulder. He then asked God to talk to him, but he didn't notice the rolling thunder in the distance.. Things have happened to me which I absolutely cannot explain. Things have happened to all of us. It is up to us to decide wether such things we cannot explain are signs from above, or mere occurences we can't grasp.
So far, I have been unable to make that decision.

chosen generation" = a chosen people. The Hebrews seem to have reckoned time by
the generation. In the time of Abraham a generation was an hundred years, thus:
Gen. 15:16, "In the fourth generation" = in four hundred years (comp. verse 13
and Ex. 12:40). In Deut. 1:35 and 2:14 a generation is a period of thirty-eight
years.I read in a post on this site that the teachings of the WTS today are different from the things taught by the original bible students. The person who posted this statement also provided a link to the 'Bible Students'. After doing some reading on the bible students' site, it seems that they too, believe that the (invisible) return of Christ occured around 1914.
Looking up the word 'generation' in the dictionary was not satisfying. No matter how you twist or turn it, the meaning of 'generation' always seems to boil down to the same thing. The term is limited to a certain amount of time, and trying to stretch that period of time would be the same as trying to distort the meaning of the word. For example, an hour is sixty minutes, when you are in a dentist's chair, it might feel like 200 minutes, when you're at the beach watching a sunset, it might feel like 10 minutes, when you're at the KH listening to a boring talk, it might seem like forever, but it will always be 60 minutes. We can't try to change that.
Now, it seems that the generations were longer between Adam and Noah, people lived to be about 800 years, but then after Noah, God decided that the life span would be '120 years'. Had someone talked about 'this generation' back then, we could have assumed that they were talking about a span of about 800 years, but fact is that when Jesus mentioned 'this generation' he was mentioning it in a time where the life span was not as long as 800 years.
I don't believe for one second that the meaning of 'this generation' can be stretched in order to suit a certain purpose, it just cannot be done. But what is the problem then? The problem is that it is generally believed that Christ returned around 1914, but if I believe that, then I also have to believe that 'this generation will by no means pass away before..etc..' We all know that 'this generation' has pretty much passed away by now.
This leaves me to think that, either Christ has not returned yet, or the bible is not inspired by God (which would be a great disappointment to me), or the word 'generation' has been translated in a wrong way, and had a different meaning in the original language. Speaking several languages myself, I know how easy it is to make a mistake like that.
I am left with many questions, and really want to get to the bottom of this. Any opinions, thoughts, are welcome. Thank you.

Women in the congregation

is there a bible scripture, indicating that such should be the case?
furthermore, something as simple as passing a mike cannot be done by a woman.

CAN WE TRUST DOCTORS?
by Dansk inmost of our local doctors, whom we go to with sore throats, aching backs, etc., are friendly chaps and ladies but even these are indoctrinated, in the main, into accepting that hospital doctors/researchers know best.
since i became seriously ill i've done a collosal amount of research and i am afraid i'm left with, at the very least, immense suspicion of the recommendations of the majority of medical doctors.
recently, we have been notified by our gp's surgery that our younger son requires immunisation.

Can we trust doctors? A friend of mine was suffering from severe dizziness. He went to several emergency rooms and doctors. Months went by and every time he went somewhere for help, he was sent home with a different diagnosis. 3 months after that first wave of dizziness (which was diagnosed as a heat stroke), he had to quit working, because it had become impossible for him to walk without support. Many doctors later, they finally found out that he had a fast growing brain tumor. Can we trust doctors?
One of my collegues suffered from severe pain in his groin area. He was diagnosed with diverticulitis. In spite of a strict diet, the pain got worse and worse. Turned out he had a hernia. They found this out after he had been in severe pain for two years of his life. Such things should not happen. Can we trust doctors?
Three years ago, I went to the emergency room with severe chest pain. I was told I had carpal tunnel and they put both my wrists in a plastic cast. I asked the doctor, but how about my chest pain? The doctor said it could be anxiety. Two days later, I was taken to the hospital in an ambulance in the middle of the night. I was unconscious and had a dangerously high fever. Carpal tunnel my a$$, I had a viral infection in my lungs. Had it been treated properly the first time I went to the ER with chest pains, I wouldn't have suffered as many complications. Can we trust doctors?
Many health food stores have great books available on natural healing. I trust those books way more than I would trust a doctor. What's more, the books are cheaper. If you need any specific information on natural healing, feel free to ask.
