  Hi pennycandy, I won't be much help, but will give it a try.

  1. How do you pronounce Jaracz? This is an easy one. It depends where you are from. Every name gets pronounced differently in different languages. So if you ever say Jaracz out loud and someone says you are pronouncing it wrong, you can always say that you are pronouncing it the Arabian way.

  2. Where can I get a copy of the latest WT cdrom without going to a KH? If you make a separate thread about this, I'm sure there will be someone around here to provide you with a copy.

  3. In 20 words or less, what are Masons? Really, I don't know. I don't know either, and almost asked in a different thread. I believe they are the names of people, but I don't know who they are. There is a Mason family a few miles down the street from where I live, but I'm sure those are not the ones people are talking about.

  4. Where did the phrase "spot on" come from all of a sudden? Is it new? Thank you very much, you made my day. I have to write a short piece by Wednesday and couldn't come up with a subject. Now I have one. Spot on is is just another ring in the chain of language. Back in medieval times, it meant painting with mud, but they had not come up with a word for it yet. When a knight wanted to have his shield painted, he'd have his friends help. They would throw mud all over the shield and he'd stand there, yelling... spot on, spot on, spot on.. Nowadays, the words have no meaning when used by themselves but they can become meaningful, as well as useful when more words are added. You have a spot on your shirt. After doing my nails, I saw a spot on them that wasn't covered. You need to take care of that spot on your legs, it looks like a sore.

  5. Why do I make a face like I'm shaving when I put on mascara? This can be avoided by not putting on mascara.

  6. Why do I make the same face when I shave my legs? It must be your shaving face. I'm about to take a bath, will pay attention to it, I don't know if I make a face while shaving my legs or not, but I don';t think so.

  7. Why does my dog hump air? Is it really enjoyable? Who knows, you might want to give a try and see if you enjoy it.

  8. When I let someone in front of me while driving and receive obligatory thank-you wave, why do I automatically give an acknowleging nod even though I know they can't see it? Because of the action and reaction law of nature. When you put a weight on an old scale, the side with the weight will go down and the empty side will go up, same thing only different.

  9. Why hasn't Elsewhere posted in two whole days? Ooohhh that little lurker!

  I think they now have a few 8 year olds in training to become anointed and become members of the GB, just to make sure the anointed class doesn't die off before armageddon comes.

  Ashamed to say, but I have no idea who the current WT president is and have been wondering about that myself.

  The evidence AGAINST evolution

  this is a thread for those that have done some research and concluded that evolution is not how various species came to exist.. have you done the research?

  do you believe that species exist as a result of god's direct creation?

  A very good point made in Richard Dawkins "The Blind Watchmaker" was essentially this: Can you imagine any of these complicated systems being useful if they were only slightly less efficient? If the eye couldn't see quite as well, if the legs couldn't bend quite as far, that sort of thing? What if the heart could only pump at 95% efficiency, would it still allow the creature to function? If you can imagine that, then back up to that point. Now, can you imagine it slightly less efficient than that? We're not talking about huge jumps, like black and white vision jumping to color. Just slight changes. If so, then if you carry it back far enough, you can slowly degrade these complex systems and trace (potentially) their evolutionary paths backwards. There really is no point at which you can't just slightly reduce the functionality of the current creature and still have a creature capable of surviving.

  So, basically you are saying that our body didn't used to be so sophisticated.. we just evolved to the point where we are right now.. Okay, I really don't know much about the evolution thing and such, but I have seen pictures of prehistoric drawings in caves. When you look at such pictures, the humans didn't look much different from what we look like today. Also, the people back then must have had plenty of motoric skills to make such drawings, they also had well functioning eyes, as they were obviously drawing things they observed in their environment. Our body structure has undergone some minor changes (people are taller than they used to be), primarily through better nutrition and more vitamins, but we still look pretty much like the people on the drawings in the caves.

  Now, even if I accepted that we started out being uncomplicated creatures and we evolved to more sophistication, this would still not explain where 'life' actually came from, would it? It also doesn't explain why we die and don't come back (or do we?). My asparagus comes back every year, and so do my roses.

  honestly, mother therasa did more to help the needy and poor then the pope did any day.

  i always found it funny how catholics worshipped the pope, and even seem to think he is christ on earth or something.

  Wow, this is quite a discussion going on here. I am certainly not an expert on the subject, so my inclination to believe in creation is mostly based on emotion and faith. I found out a long time ago that one can't always believe the written word. I could write a thick book filled with evidence for evolution, or filled with evidence for creation. Even though the book would purely sprout out of my imagination, it would still be read by people, and believed. What I'm saying is that many of the books written on those subjects are not always true. There is no law against writing a bunch of nonsense and publishing it. The reason why I believe in creation is because it makes sense to me. Look at all the animals, and how they 'know' what to do in order to survive. Birds go south for the winter, chipmunks know to store food for the winter, oh, there are millions of examples of animals and their natural instincts. Let's say that animals got here through evolution.. let's say that 'life' could come to be through evolution.. I would be willing to accept that, but there is a huge difference between something that breathes and is alive, and something that has natural instincts. How did the instincts come to be? Was that evolution as well?

  Okay, that was for animals, but how about human beings? Did we get a conscience through evolution? Think about every part of a human body.. wow, evolution must be truly amazing, resulting in such a complicated body. Ears, eyes, a heart, a digestive system, 2 legs, 2 arms, hands, fingers, veins, speech, a brain, the ability to think..etc... etc... I know I know, all this is a really weak argument to defend my creation theory. To me, it is just a matter of common sense. But then, I might be wrong. Let's say that it is not important to be right or wrong.. it is much more important to try and be a good human being, created or not..

  I remember when Lady Di and Mother Theresa died, thought back then that the pope would be #3.

  As I was reading this link (the one I posted a few posts above this one), the 'Fatima' thing kept coming back is that essay. Does anyone have a link to it? I would like to read it. Don't remember much of it, I learned about it in school. Something about 3 secrets, and the popes are the keepers of the third secret?

  Poor sisters----having to wear dresses in the winter!

  My sister lives in Belgium where the winters are not nearly as cold as over here in the Adirondacks of upstate NY. Well, apparently, 'dress pants' are allowed for women in her KH when the temp goes below a certain point. Here, I remember going to the KH in a dress when it was 20 below zero.
