Many years back, an elder from our KH told me that, in spite of the fact that nobody knows the day or the hour, he was convinced that Jehovah would not let this current system of things continue as it is past the year 2000. When 2000 came and went, he was still convinced that he would live to see the big A, he just humbly admitted that it is up to Jehovah and that he should bot guess. I know that this is the attitude of many people at the KH where I used to go.

Hi Bryan,
Congratulations!!!
I am so happy for you. Waiting on the release of my own book, I know how exciting (and stressful) all this is. I don't buy stuff on line, but will order it through Barnes & Noble after November 5th. I'll see if the paper I write for will let me write a review of it in the paper.
As soon as my own book is out, I am going to write a press release and such. I am wondering if there would be a way to include your book as well as Dave's (AlmostAtheist) book in the press release. Please pm me if you're interested (you too, Dave).

Last fall, my neighbor had to dig up his well. Big problem, there were no ground plans of the house available to indicate where the well would be. So we borrowed a metal detector. We searched the entire lawn (two acres), and put little stakes in the ground wherever the detector went off. We ended up with a whole bunch of stakes all over the lawn and started digging. Sometimes we'd find scraps of something, like caps and such, and we'd go to a different spot and start digging again. We dug for two weeks and ended up with a lot of three foot deep holes in the lawn. We finally realized that this was not going to work. Then we bought welling rods. If anyone is familiar with welling rods, you'll know that searching for water under the ground with welling rods it is called "witching" and that only a certain kind of people have the ability to do this. My neighbor walked all over the lawn with the welling rods, but nothing happened. To my utmost surprise, when I tried it, it worked. I was able to find the water line and follow it to the well with the welling rods. At that time, I didn't think much of it. All excited, I told my JW friends, (I was still going to the KH back then). OH MY Goodness, they made a huge deal out of it, as if I had gone to bed with the devil himself.

FREE HEALTH CARE
by Dansk inlittlerockguy's recent post about paying for his medical care in the usa got me thinking about something i've pondered over for a while before realising you lot here probably have the answer.
because of all the treatments i've been having it has made me mightily glad i live in the uk and the bill is paid for by the national health service.
therefore, any medical treatment i receive is free.

I used to live in Belgium where health care is almost free. Everyone has health insurance because it doesn't cost much at all to get it. The couple of times I was in the hospital in Belgium, it didn't cost me a dime. There was no "wait" to see a doctor or a specialist.
Boy was I in for a surprise when I moved to the US. Most people I know around here either don't have health insurance, or pay an arm and a leg to get some basic coverage, but when they need more than just a doctor's visit, they end up paying a lot out of their own pocket anyways.
During the winter of 2004, I was taken to the hospital with kidney stones. I was in the hospital for six hours and paid over four thousand dollars. It took me a year to pay it off.
On September 31st, three weeks ago, I lost consciousness at work. They took me home, I drank some herb tea and went to bed. The next morning I couldn't keep my balance. It was so bad that I had to call a friend to help me with my morning routine. This friend took me to urgent care (which is a cheap alternative to the emergency room). At urgent care, I got to see a nurse and had to pay $125 in advance before she even looked at me. They took an EKG and it seems that the EKG showed that there was something wrong with the pattern on the EKG. The nurse told me I really should get this looked at and she gave me the phone number of a place where they accept new patients. I called, explained the problem, and the earliest appointment I could get was for the end of October. So here I am sitting at home, waiting for my appointment and wondering what is wrong, and especially wondering how much all this is going to cost.
Don't get me going.. all I can say is... god forbid one gets sick in this corner of the world. Not good, not good..

Day number 16 and still raining. The sun was out 20 miles south of here, but I didn't see it. At first they said it would be nice tomorrow, but now they are saying it's going to rain through the week and through the weekend.

Does your pinkie fit in your ear lobe ? Superstitions
by Crumpet inwhen i was younger i remember my jw best friend had a bible study who was malaysian i think and he passed on some superstitions.
i wonder if any of you have heard of them before.. if you have a very thin/short upper lip you will have a tendency to be thrifty and if very thin you will be mean.. if you can fit your pinkie/little finger in the dip in your ear lobe you will be very sensuous and extremely so if you can fit it neatly by breadth and up to the first bendy bit ( sorry is that called a knuckle) you will be highly sexualised.. and can you encircle your left wrist with the thumb and little finger of your right hand.
if so you will be lucky even when you make bad choices.. try them and see if there's any truth in it.

My Guyanese friends say that if your second toe is longer than your big toe you will rule over your husband.
My second toe is longer than my big toe. It's a family trait. But I heard that it was a sign of intelligence. I'm not married, but I hope the latter is true because I don't want to rule over my husband. I don't like weak men.lol, same here. My second toe is longer than my big toe and I'm not married. So, should we conclude that, when your second toe is longer than your big toe, you won't get married?

Lol, auld soul. Yes, the computer is still working, and I'm surprised at that. Ever since I had my phone connected, the line tends to die when it rains too much. Since I have dial up connection... blah blah blah.. I have called the phone company numerous times over the years. And each time, the phone would be working again before they showed up. So now I don't bother calling them anymore, but it is prolly only a matter of time before the line goes dead again.
I just checked the weather *again* for tomorrow, but all they do is promise us more rain, and then some more.. I'm going to buy a rain coat and just work outside in the rain..

sigh.. another day and still raining. The only reason why I don't pack up and move is because my books might get wet should I move them in the rain. Day number 15 (fifteen) of rain.

How many more years do you think you have left to live?
by JH in.
since i'm relatively healthy, don't smoke, hardly drink (2 beers a day), and if i base myself on my grandparents and parents age, i think that i should live up to anywhere between 85 and 95. which means i should have another 40 to 50 years of posting here.

I am 43 and hope to be around for a bit longer, so I take my vitamins and supplements.
I worry sometimes because I don't have health insurance. Should I get sick and require surgery or extensive medical care, I'd probably die because I wouldn't be able to afford going to a hospital. As a matter of fact, I worry about that a lot.
